Brief Description
Fini's Colonia, establishment beginning in 2700, was the maiden interstellar voyage of the Typhlops, a massive Interstellar cruise ship that took half a decade to construct. With the completion of the ship, a survey was launched to decide the most suitable star for heavy research - one that now goes by the name of Harbourer was chosen for having many possibly habitable planets, a theory that was confirmed as the starship pulled into the system.
The System
The Harbourer system was the first to only consist of planets harbouring life, making it the first target for the starship. Its 1st and 2nd planets had breathable oxygen, a good atmospheric pressure and gravity close to 1g, and a 3rd binary planet beyond the habitable zone was able to sustain water through the tidal forces between each other. Both planets had ~0.5x the atmospheric pressure of Earth, and a surface gravitational force of ~0.8g. The star at the center of the system was a calm red dwarf with a life expectancy of 50 billion years, much shorter than expected for a star its size.
The Arrival
At the destination, the crew of the ship began preparation to set up a colony on the 1st planet, a warm terra harbouring Earth-like life. One of the biggest discoveries so far was that this planet had tribes dotted around, separated by a few hundred kilometers usually. At the time, this was a massive breakthrough, teaching us more about alien life and how it comes to be elsewhere. The 1st colony, established in 2700.05.14, was small and dependent, living off supplies sent down from what the mothership produced, before eventually expanding outwards and using resources from the planet. The 2nd colony, established in 2700.06.05, was much more advanced, and had a much bigger population allowing it to become the capital of the system. The 3rd colony, established in 2700.09.25, is where things picked up. Population started increasing exponentially, and so did resources with expansion work increasing the capabilities of existing factories, and fusion centres being constructed to quell the system's demands. After 50 more years, the colonia reached 20 colonies. Space travel began becoming more prevalent as colonies began on other planets in the system, and eventually space stations began being constructed. Things escalated from here.
The Discovery
On the 3rd and 4th planet, an exotic form of matter was discovered dubbed 'Tellium' that permitted FTL transport of matter via previously unknown quantum effects, where an object submerged in a pool of Tellium would appear mirrored in any oppositely polarised Tellium pools. Close analysis on the atomic level reveals that the material is entangled in a similar fashion to unobserved atomic particles, capable of exchanging information about the opposite particle, although many Tellium particles are capable of arranging themselves on a macroscopic level to recreate a submerged structure. This discovery prompted the colonists to band together under one ceiling, pooling resources to construct a large jump-capable vessel powered by Tellium.
Work immediately began on a colossal interstellar vessel as soon as the United Colonies of the Harbourer banded together - to accomodate resource requirements, Von Neumann probes were deployed in the asteroid belt situated slightly beyond planet 3/4 to gather as many resources as possible. This allowed the vessel to be constructed within a year of its original planning.
Back on Earth, a bright flash was emitted from Harbourer and is now known to be a supernova - the last transmissions from Fini's colony reveal that a spike of radiation had engulfed the vessel shortly before the vessel was fully engulfed in Tellium for its first interplanetary test. It is now thought that Harbourer's star was linked through the Telleium to a much larger star, causing a type Ia supernova after an unknown time as the Harbourer's star reached critical mass. Several years after the supernova the region of the sky Harbourer once inhabited was scanned, revealing a brilliant blue nebula. Left behind is a black hole, now expanding due to the hypothesized Tellium link. Between the initial supernova and 2985, it's estimated the black hole increased from 0.5 solar masses to over 50.
