Races

Aerashani

Idyllfolk Races
Show details

Soul Component: 16%

The Aerashani are the youngest Idyllfolk race, and arguably resemble humans the most culturally. Their origin can be traced to a Koeyan city 600 years ago. 145 years prior, the ruins of that city were occupied by a nomadic group from the Ocean of Flame. 600 years ago, they began a great diaspora out from the city, no longer human. The newly rebuilt city came to be the city-state Yarras, the City of Stars.

The Aerashani follow a pattern of elementally-aligned Idyllfolk, with their alignment being a risky one. Attuning themselves to the heavens had the potential to incur the wrath of the celestial dragons, a risk only increased with their open and defenseless home. Even so, they managed to avoid drawing the dragons' ire, a luxury the Cindurans did not have 1400 years ago.

Aerashani have dark skin spotted with shifting points of light. Sensitive parts of their body also tend to glow slightly, including their blank eyes. Their builds are entirely identical to humans, but they are about 20% lighter. Aerashani fashion tends to be minimalist and practical, accounting for their desert home and keeping their thick locs of hair protected.

The creation of an Idyllfolk race is usually done in pursuit of some ability, and the Aerashani are no exception. Their specialty in celestial knowledge is not their inborn attunement, but it has sparked a Moonstride magical revolution based on the resources available in the Ocean of Flame. The abilities Aerashani are born with are a brief but powerful reduction in their own weight, as well as the ability to communicate worldwide through some twinkling of starlight. It’s not well understood how this communication works, but it seems to require a new language built to interpret the stars.

Draznachi

Idyllfolk Races

Soul Component: 28%

The Draznachi are one of the oldest and most distant Idyllfolk races from humans, though you might not be able to tell that from a conversation with them. A long history of close interaction with humans has allowed them to culturally converge, a true betrayal against the cost of an Idyllfolk race’s creation. Often stereotyped as conniving and malicious, Draznachi don’t tend to waste time with formalities and politeness. They know what humans and even other races think of them. Isolated underground communities of Draznachi exist worldwide to escape this. Warlords from these communities have been historically feared as great demon lords, terrorizing large swathes of the world before their squabbling was put into perspective by the vast violence of the Vermillion Wars.

Draznachi have a sunset range of skin tones, from pale persimmons to deep violets and all crimson hues between. They seem very glossy and glittery in sunlight, which is actually not a normal response. Sunlight irritates Draznachi skin. They have horns protruding from the front of their skulls that can take a variety of shapes.

The Draznachi have some limited pyrokinetic affinities, but their more famous power is the ability to enforce the rules of contracts via a Starstep application of their race’s Sunstep. When consenting individuals enter a contract, a binding is placed in their subconscious that prevents them from taking action to break it. The rules and clauses of the contracts are incredibly important, another factor that leads to the recognizably direct tone the Draznachi tend to take.

Draznachi contracts are incredibly versatile and useful, so even with the stigma around them in society, they can still make a living off of their inborn sorcery.

Annhi Dhriaf

A set of four ancient Idyllfolk races. They each set off to find a discipline after the seasons and diverged from humanity roughly 57,000 years ago. Their cultural differences from humans and every more modern race have made a set of “do not” rules for interacting with each of them.

The Annhi Dhriaf only show up during their respective seasons, and remain hidden away the rest of the year, repeating this for their millenium long lifespans. Knowing how to interact with or avoid all of them is crucial.

Annhi Dhriaf have a bloated aura and warped souls, giving passive effects to the environment around them. The only drawback seems to be the specificity of their abilities.

Bofhianni

Soul Component: 29%

The Bofhianni are the Annhi Dhriaf of the summer, representing its constant strong heat and its relatively peaceful weather. From the same glades as the Fhriarhianni, they emerge in the summer to wander the wilderness and drink in the scenery. Their silken clothes are a recognizable combination of gold and green, made to vent away heat and keep them mobile.

The Bofhianni have an aura of reinforcement, keeping living beings strong and healthy. Those who spend time around Bofhianni regularly have their lifespans increased substantially. It’s not particularly difficult to find them, since the spend much of their time picking fruits off of vines and indulging in picnic-like gatherings.

The Bofhianni are lax, genuine, and honest, which makes them seem the least dangerous of the Annhi Dhriaf. However, they are still inhuman and subject to a set of rules. It is ill-advised to drink their alcohol, though not inherently dangerous. However, their absolute rules are to not get drunk with them, as well as to not speak your own name to them after sunset. Those who drink with the Bofhianni usually find themselves unable to stop, caught in a timeless loop of consumption until they give out and never awaken. And those who reveal their names after dark lose their identities, forgotten by all who knew them. Would be useful if the hollowness of it didn’t cause a wound on their soul.
