Myrmidan

Template:Galaxy InfoboxThe Myrmidan Galaxy is the second largest satellite of the Flower Galaxy. The galaxy is relatively desolate compared to its parent galaxy, having only seven known intelligent species. Currently, the Somnar Hive controls over 95% of the galaxy, having taken over five of the other species in the galaxy. The last remaining intelligent species that has not been conquered is the Edans, of the planet Edana, and their cause is being supported by many major powers in the Flower Galaxy and surrounds.

Physical Characteristics

Myrmidan is an irregular galaxy with a diameter of 9,100 ly. It contains 2.9 billion stars, making it about 0.03% as large as its parent galaxy. It is roughly 210,000 light-years from the Flower Galaxy and has a population of roughly 851 trillion.

The galaxy is littered with the remains of at least thirty once-great civilizations, some of which were devoured by the Somnar Hive and some of which fell for other reasons. The Providence Union is hypothesized to have colonized a portion of this galaxy.

Galactic Geography

The Myrmidan Galaxy, being irregular and relatively unknown, only has three galactic regions:

• Core
• Shell
• Halo

Core

The core of the Myrmidan Galaxy is home to its as-yet-unnamed supermassive black hole, as well as many high-mass stars and star-forming regions. This is also probably where Somnar is located. Aside from these facts, this is the least well-known region in the galaxy.

Shell

The "shell" is the region of the Myrmidan Galaxy surrounding the core, and contains such objects as the Sleeping Nebula, the largest nebula in the galaxy. Most importantly, it also contains the Ardaya System, refuge of the last free species in the galaxy.

Halo

The galactic halo of the Myrmidan Galaxy rapidly fades out into intergalactic space, and is generally uninteresting. It contains no notable systems outside of Globular Clusters, and there are very few of those.

Exurian Cluster

The Exurian Cluster is the largest globular cluster of the Myrmidan Galaxy. It is fully controlled by the Exurian Union, a nation closely allied with the United Nations of the Flower Galaxy, which has sent the vast majority of its military to help in the Ardaya Conflicts.

Exurian is a relatively large globular cluster, that is unusually dense in its inner parts. Because of this, most everyone outside it who discovered it assumed that it was much smaller than it actually is, because of this extreme density gradient. However, the Exurian Union is currently constructing a relatively small Birch Planet out of the inner stars of the cluster, to concentrate its population. The outer stars are being left alone, to serve as a destination for Project Alazar.

Somnar Hive

The Somnar Hive is a large hive-mind empire that has conquered most of the Myrmidan Galaxy and assimilated most of the other species in the galaxy. They have used the many ruins scattered through the galaxy to rise quite rapidly and subjugate other species. The way they assimilate species has lent them the label of one of the most hated species in the Telusian Group, and no expeditions into their territory has ever returned. What little we know about it comes from intercepted transmissions.

History

Having existed for almost thirteen billion years, many civilizations have risen and fallen over the galaxy's history. However, not much is known about them, for no expeditions into the galaxy beyond the Ardaya region have actually returned.
