Template:Ambrosia: WorldAtlas is a habitable ringed Superterra orbiting a G-class star on the outskirts of the Aylothn Galaxy. It is a sister planet to Australis Prime. It has two moons, Calypso and Hesperides. It was terraformed in 67 887 and settled the same year.

Geography

Atlas is a land world. It has many lake/seas, but on the whole it is a land world. Many craters dominated this world before it was Terraformed, forming the seas we see today. Some notable locations include:

Crater Sea

The Crater Sea was a large flat plain dotted with large craters. It was the most heavily cratered area on the entire planet. When the seas were filled, this area became the Crater Sea, a sea full of islands made from the eroded lips of the long-gone craters.

Micacheous Sea

This is the largest sea on the planet. Approximately 2 billion years ago, Atlas collided with another dwarf planet. This formed Micacheous Sea. The debris ejected into orbit formed Calypso and Hesperides. While they were forming, the leftover debris went into making the First Ring of Atlas, which was the most short-lived. It was collected by Calypso and Hesperides within a few short millennia.

Novice Crater

Novice Crater is a medium-sized crater situated on the equator. It is not filled with water, but has numerous rivers flowing through it. It is the site of the city called Novice.

Old Mother V'Ilangu's Sea

Old Mother V'llagnu's Sea was a crater named after one of the discoverers of Atlas, Auriiea V'llangu. She discovered the planet and named a few surface features, such as Novice Crater and the then Micacheous Crater. When she died, a large sea was named after her. Her three children requested that it be called "Mother V'llangu," but as time went a "Old" was added to the front.

Buean Listed's Sea

Buean Listed's Sea was a semi-large crater near the south pole, named after on of the other discoverers of the planet, and first governor of it. Buean Listed was a Human from the planet Aegyn, who longed for adventure. Over the course of his exploration career, he logged of a hundred thousand planets, in over ten galaxies. with thousands of stars to his name. Many planets, and star systems are named after him. Buean Listed's Sea was a shallow concave simple crater formed approximately 500 million years ago when a large asteroid hit the planet. When Terraforming flooded the Crater, it became a popular Zythn Resort with high temperatures (for Zythns) and lots of water and plants.

Climate

Atlas is mainly a desert. Mind you, this doesn't mean sand and dust and heat, it just means areas of low rainfall. Almost 80% of all the land on the planet receives very little rainfall. Around the mountains and crater/lakes you get rainfall, but past there, very far inland, there is very little rain.

History

Atlas was discovered in 57 544 by Auriiea V'llangu and Buean Listed. They were working together to catalogue one thousand star system around here. It was Terraformed in 67 887 and was settled a month later. It was mainly settled for a financial backing for the sector, due to it's poverty at the time.

Pre-Colonial History

Atlas formed around Iapetus' Star 5.12 billion years ago. At the time, it had no rings or moons. Nothing happened until 2 billion years ago, when a small dwarf-planet collided with Atlas, named Menoetius, creating the Micacheous Crater, later to become the Micacheous Sea. All the debris ejected from both Menoetius and Atlas formed the First Ring of Atlas. Out of these rings, two moons formed, Calypso and Hesperides. The rings were collected by the twin moons, and the First Rings of Atlas died. Approximately 500 million years ago, a large asteroid migration from the outside of the system collided with Atlas. This created a lot of craters, including Novice Crater, and a lot of the craters in the Crater Sea. In the year 57 544, it was catalogued by Auriiea and Buean. It started being Terraformed in 67 544, and was finished in 67 887.

Post-Colonial History

After it was Terraformed, it was colonised. The first City was called Atlas Prime, and was founded on the banks of the now Crater Sea. Since this planet was colonised just to elevate this region out of poverty, by providing a large financial basis (which, by the way, didn't work), a large amount of corporate governments grew up, all controlling vast swaths of the planet. Some of these companies were so powerful, they had their own military, and their Headquarters was the equivalent of government buildings. They controlled all law and order on this planet, which was easy, since they could just stop selling anyone anything and anytime. They had staked claims to the moons of Atlas, and other planets in the system. Eventually, there was nothing left to profit from, and they had to compete with each other. This gave rise to the bloody Corporate Wars, which left large areas of the planet uninhabitable by any living creature afterwards.

Corporate Wars

The Corporate Wars were a bloody time to be alive. They lasted from 87 433 to 87 562, over a century of fighting. It started with the Atlas Corporate Alliance, a alliance made of a large number of companies, making an unprovoked attack on another, singular company, named Atlas System Shipping. It was overwhelmed as the armed troops stormed it's headquarters, and was subsumed into the Atlas Corporate Alliance. This incited anger from other companies, igniting the Corporate Wars. Many battles happened, but the most notable are listed below.

Battle Of Novice

The Battle of Novice happened on the 14th of November, 87 438. It was the first "real" battle of the war, with over ten combatants. Over a million people were mercilessly slaughtered, just to gain control over the city of Novice. It was over a week later, but it took it's toll on the area. A few hydrogen bombs had been detonated, blowing new craters into the sides of Novice Crater.

Battle Of The Atlasian Rings

This battle was a space battle, taking place within the rings. A eyewitness describes it,

"The Rings glowed with the light of a million ships exploding. At least a million gigatonnes of material had to have been added to the rings. I could hear the screams of a billion innocent people dying. It was horrible."

The battle took place on the 31st of August, 87 496. More than 50 million people died from this battle alone, making it the most heavy casualty battle of the war.

Battle Of Hesperides

The Battle of Hesperides was a land battle, fought on the moon Hesperides. It decided who would control the moon, as it had a incredibly large strategic value. Not as much as Calypso, but still a lot. The surface was added about a thousand new craters from nuclear bombs and hydrogen missiles. These vaporised all volatiles, creating a rudimentary atmosphere for the moon (34% CO2, 61& Hydrogen, 5% assorted hydrocarbons). Water was melted, but soon froze again. The entire moon was rendered 100 times more radioactive than it was on average before, with areas that were habitable, and areas that glowed in the dark. The wreckage of a billion robots and armoured vehicles on the surface. This was the first step to terraforming, which was started in 94 739.

Sometimes, due to it's orbital eccentricity, Calypso moves inside the orbit of Hesperides!
