Heart of Providence (Cosmoria)

Template:!Star InfoboxThe Heart of Providence is among the largest objects in Cosmoria and one of the only three black holes known. The black hole is situated near the center of Florathel, and its gravity affects much of the region. This gravity allows it to hold several stars including Varona in direct orbits around it, as well as several brown dwarfs and planets. Once home to the seat of the Providence Union, most of the Heart of Providence is today controlled equally by all members of the United Nations of Florathel and their allies. The planet Iurakon and its system of moons is also under the dominion of the theocratic nation of Voyorras.

Physical Characteristics

The Heart of Providence, as a black hole, is less of a physical object and more of a point in space surrounded by a mathematical surface, the event horizon, defined by the speed of light and the mass contained within it. As the Heart has a mass of ~730 stellar masses, its event horizon extends 2156.4 kilometers from the singularity, forming an unknowable region of space from which nothing can return. Black holes can only have three observable properties: mass, charge, and spin, so there is not much else to be said other than the fact that it does, in fact, spin very rapidly. However, its immediate surroundings are comparatively fascinating.

Across history, dozens of stars have fallen to the voracious appetite of the Heart of Providence. The remains of the latest few have not yet vanished across the horizon, and so leave an enormous disk of plasma formed after they were torn apart by tidal shear. A massive pair of jets fire from immediately above the poles of the black hole, composed of electrons funneled from the disk by its powerful magnetic field at very close to the speed of light. Thankfully, these jets are pointed clear away from the disk of Cosmoria, as any system in their path would be scoured of all life. For those not in the path of these jets, they create an unparalleled spectacle.

Surroundings

The enormous gravity of the Heart of Providence holds many objects under its sway. The two of most note are Varona and Apricot, an average-sized star and a brown dwarf respectively, as they are the only two objects in the immediate vicinity of the black hole to actually retain habitable planetary bodies. The other four stars found in the gravitational sway of the Heart are Thenakat, Amlin, Kervalla, and Devola. Once the homeworld of the Norlins, Ikalas was destroyed when the nearby star of Korvo was pushed beneath the roche limit of the Heart of Providence by the Moridian High Command in an effort to generate infinite power. Its destruction made the Heart's accretion disk go from nearly inert to the brightest single object in the universe in days, reducing Ikalas to a burning cinder. The only evidence that it ever amounted to more than that is administrative charts found at the Norlin colony at Dalkor pointing to its once illustrious role as capital of the High Command.
