'On the backs of our Void-Craft, we sail into the vast unknown, to learn of it, to transform it, to built our homes in it, to bare witness to the raw majesty of all creation itself, and see for ourselves once and for all, what we are truly capable of.'
Void-Craft
Void-Craft, often also referred to as voidships and starships, is a catch-all term for the huge variety of vehicles that sail across the Voidsea. The definition typically refers to a vehicle which is capable of propulsion, catching everything from Faster-then-Light travel, to basic orbital probes or rockets that are capable of functioning in the vacuum beyond a Void Island's atmosphere.
They are one of the primary methods of travelling between Void Islands and Solar Systems, and can be designed for just about any purpose. From exploration vessels, to ships designed to be operated in the construction of other Void-Craft, to defensive ships with free mobility in mind, to military fleets, and to generational ships that spend decades or centuries in the abyss between stars - the term Void-Craft encompasses them all, regardless of purpose, size, or Faction affiliation.
With the exception of the initial ships needed to leave the atmosphere and establish a permanent presence off of a Void Island, nearly all Void-Craft are built within the Voidsea. Lower gravity, easier access to raw materials, ease of transport, and the elimination of environmental pollution, mean that it is significantly easier, less resource intensive, and environmentally hazardous to construct both Void-Craft and Void-Stations within the Voidsea itself.
The ability to construct Void-Craft is one of the defining factors in what make a Kinde 'Voidsea Capable'. When their Void-Craft are capable of reliable interstellar travel, they are considered 'Voidsea Faring'.
Across the Sky River and the Sky Shore, there are the ruins of hundreds of thousands of Void-Craft, Void-Stations, and other such infrastructure scattered across the Voidsea. Much of it the remains of the Technopocalypse, and some of it the result of battles, and civilisations long collapsed. These are often treasure troves of archeological information, as well as important to Voidsea environmental safety, as these ships are a risk of collision with all manner of infrastructure around Void Islands, or travel lanes.
Pre-Taekni
Before Taekni became a fundamental force in the universe, Void-Craft were not designed with the effects it and the Broadwave produced. Despite this, Void-Craft were still highly advanced before the Technopocalypse occurred.
Across the Voidsea, many Kindes had developed a number of ways to travel across the infinite abyss between worlds. Many started out with sub-light speeds, with generational ships seeding the first few colonies. As technology continued to improve, some Kindes were able to access wormholes, requiring further modifications to withstand the gravitational forces within reliably.
A number of Quick-Shift A variety of FTL (Faster-Than-Light) drives were created, such as the Rewkwa Saeng Shift Drive (Often shortened simply to 'The Shift Drive' developed by the Kin.
Many of these Void-Craft were constructed to truly enormous sizes.
By the end of the Void Age, there were supposedly close to a million Void-Craft across the Vetrarsaer alone.
Following the Technopocalypse, many Void-Craft were destroyed outright, or crippled beyond repair. A number survived due to built-in redundancies which protected the crews, but most were no longer capable of interstellar travel, and needed to be docked at the nearest Void Island as quickly as possible. Those that could be rebuilt were, but had to now be heavily modified, in order to deal with the new environmental factors the Broadwave brought with it.
Post-Taekni
After Taekni has established itself as a force within the Voidsea, Void-Craft once again had to adapt in order to function. New systems that were designed to limit or redirect the masses of information and interference that the Broadwave brought along with it were installed, often to scale with the size of the Void-Craft.
Arcane Drives
One of the biggest changes that Taekni brought with it was the development of Arcane Drives - Drives that a large number of individuals could power via the Arcane. These are typically considered back-up plans, as the use of these Drives can wear down an individual quite rapidly, resulting in immense physical, mental, and psychological damage. However, they are invaluable in situations where the regular FTL Drives are knocked out. As such, most Void-Craft post-Taekni are equipped with both.
Layouts
There are essentially no limits to what a Void-Craft can look like, or what it can be used for, so long as it remains in the Voidsea. Some may be constructed to be able to withstand a variety of astronomical phenomenon, and some may be utterly titanic in their size, capable of holding hundreds of thousands of individuals within its walls. Much of the configuration of a Void-Craft depends on those who constructed them.
For example, Kin Void-Craft vary wildly, from being brutally utilitarian, to having enough open-space and environment replication capabilities to house towns within them. They will often be filled with various gases, mainly an oxygen-nitrogen mix, to allow for comfortable breathing. The Craft are made for an upright Humanoid body plan, including doors which seal unless physically opened by touch or voice command.
Meanwhile, Casorian Void-Craft are usually filled with water - This is due to the Casorians being an aquatic Kinde. they will contain tighter corridors, designed with the assumption that one can morph their body to more narrow shapes when needed, and also that the user has eight appendages.
Size
Void-Craft can vary in size quite drastically, depending on it's purpose. Generational ships, as well as Naval fleets, are usually huge, due to needing to maintain the populations size, as well as carry everything that will be required within. Others, meanwhile, can be very compact and small, if needed for simple surface-to-Voidsea transportation.
