Template:!Nation InfoboxIlluin, officially the Illuin Federation or Illuin Stellar Union, is a major power controlling a set of several planets in the Cnara and Frealee systems, as well as a few colonies in interstellar space and the region surrounding the Heart of Providence. Rising from the ruins of the Providence Union in the War of the Last Alliance, Illuin is the primary nation of Kalar and Analar within Cosmoria, and plays a key role in modern international politics as a founding member of the United Nations of Florathel. It borders the PNZ, Saw-Yos, Kaurim, and Tairane and has positive relations with the latter three (the former being a treaty-created political unit rather than a nation).
Its two capital worlds, Carlea, and Darvikus, are among the most populous and beautiful worlds in Cosmoria, and rival the glory of ancient Yalai and Revarea. It was uniquely created by the peaceful union of two states of different species, and stands to this day as a shining example of what peaceful cooperation can achieve.

Sylean War
Main Article - Sylean War After the destruction of Tariro by the Sylean Front, a huge fraction of the populace was enraged. The bombing had essentially the opposite of the intended effect. Instead of galvanizing the Front's supporters, it scared away anyone except utterly mad fanatics from supporting their cause. However, some of the aforementioned utterly mad fanatics were very smart, and began assembling an automated war fleet.
The Sylean Front was joined by many other extremist groups, such as the Acolytes of the Great and Powerful Tawir, who were essentially mercenaries by this time. The Acolytes were not native to Illuin's territory, but were exiled from Yaztas for their extremely violent ways.
The automated fleet broke out of the asteroids they had cannibalized to assemble themselves and begun accelerating towards Carlea. The Illuan Navy deployed the Seventh Fleet of Sarelle to intercept them, reaching enormous accelerations in an effort to get in the way of the Syleans and force them to slow down. First, a grid of inert metal beads was deployed in interstellar space in the path of the Sylean fleet, the impact of which resulted in the destruction of a large fraction of the once-unstoppable automated warships. After evening the playing field, the Seventh Fleet then engaged the Syleans, closing to less than three Carlean radii and begun firing focused lasers and railgun rounds at this close range.
The first casualty was the crew of the ISS Shaenor, carrying the Analar Admiral Devoras Talvath and much of the highest commanders of the Seventh Fleet. Out of the thousands of skeleton crew ships, the almost immediate destruction of the only one to be fully crewed was too much of a coincidence, and the rest of the Seventh Fleet fought on under Devora Aster, young captain of the ISS Argand, with the grim certainty that someone aboard the Seventh Fleet was a traitor.
The so-called traitor was in fact the helmsman of the Argand, being almost remote-controlled by a never-before-seen biological device with the appearance of black mold which had taken over his brain. When he was found out, his body promptly shut down and the mold destroyed itself. After this discovery, the automated Sylean fleet became much less effective in its targeting choices, and most of the Seventh Fleet managed to survive the battle after mopping up the remaining ships with a newly engineered EMP blast.
Most of the rest of the conflict, named the Sylean War after-the-fact, was much quieter than this. The strange black mold reappeared often across Illuin, infecting the brains of several high officials in the nation's government, but it would always leave no trace of itself after being discovered. As such, much of the conflict was a cold war, built around spying and sabotage rather than open warfare.
The conflict ended with a raid on a random Limit Cloud asteroid known only with a database number: AOD-Cnara-439381A. The various factions of the Sylean Front had all sent their leaders there in the hopes that they could plan a more successful attack on the Illuan government, but one of the transports had failed to mask its engines correctly. Relying on secrecy, the base was defenseless in the complete darkness of near-interstellar space. Only one ship was needed to decapitate the Syleans once and for all, and captain Devora Aster of the ISS Argand stepped up once again. Her acceleration towards the asteroid went unnoticed thanks to the thruster obviously pointing perfectly away from it, and they knew nothing until they were all beamed into the Argand's brig as it flew by at relativistic speeds.
With the great battle at the beginning of the Sylean War burned in everyone's memory, Illuin entered a new era of peace as they made an effort to avoid any such conflict again. The other nations would learn this lesson in a much harder way soon, though...
War of Saiheran Succession
Main Article - War of Saiheran Succession
After the Sylean War, many of the population wanted to withdraw into relative isolationism. However, the majority wished to cultivate international relationships and expand their nation into surrounding space. As the population increased, they did so, and the expanding colonists had reached the Apricot System by the outbreak of the War of Saiheran Succession.
Illuin did not take part in the war, and instead supported civilian populations caught in the crossfire on all sides. The vast majority of the population thought the war was thoroughly pointless and a massive waste of sapient lives, and they were later proven right. The Illuan navy stood guard, establishing a powerful sensor net on the borders with Saw-Yos, Kaurim, and Corelnas. This came into play late in the war when Kalea's fleet attempted to march through Illuin's territory after the Sack of Saleas. Undamaged by the war and given advance warning by the sensor net, the Navy massed at the border and rebuffed her advances.
The war raged on, and the inhabitants of Illuin hunkered down in their territory and waited for it to end. Diplomats made overtures to many nations in attempts to pull them out of the war, some successfully. The dynamic duo of former military general Devora Aster and her adopted daughter Marella successfully established a detente between Kaurim, Corelnas, and Rezacrad, removing three nations from the chaos of the war. Their efforts and others would play a role in forcing the final personal combat between Sais, Zelera, and Kalea by coaxing the leaders of several nations away from the heirs and towards peace. After this combat in the ceremonial stadium and the election of the Common Queen Thoroa Savok Miranen, the war ended.
Modern Times
After the end of the War of Saiheran Succession, Illuin spearheaded the effort to rapidly rebuild after the devastation of the war. One of the key portions of this effort was the foundation of the United Nations of Florathel and establishment of the Providence Neutral Zone. Illuin was a key choice for the permanent members of the UNF Security Council, and remains on it to this day.
Far away on the rogue planet Aiah, the Scargass scientist Kramos Yanorian discovered a specimen of a previously unknown species buried beneath the ice before seemingly dying. The specimen was infected with a much more virulent strain of the black mold reported by soldiers in the Sylean War, and it was clear that it was also infinitely more dangerous. The colony it infected was destroyed by Starbase Turkana, but specimens of the infiltrating strain seen centuries before have begun appearing in Illuin territory.
Area
The Illuin Federation is primarily divided into two countries, which basically represent territories mostly peopled by either Kalar or Analar.
Aside from this, Illuin is divided into nine large states, each of which is divided into a series of sectors. The most populated state is Carleos Vasr, which contains the planet Carlea and its orbital zone as well as roughly 28% of the entire country's population, closely followed by the Darvakre Vasr which contains Darvikus. The least populated state is the Alkai Vasr, located in the Frealee limit cloud bordering the Federation of Kaurim, containing less than three percent of Illuin's population.
Capitals
Because of its unique origins, Illuin has two capitals, the homeworlds of the twin species which make up most of its population.

Carlea is among the most important planets in the history of Florathel. Located in the binary Cnara System, the planet has a population of over a trillion individuals. Considered to be a garden world, Carlea is widely viewed as the most beautiful planet in the galaxy by many citizens of Illuin, and is the homeworld of the Kalar and the entire Isra Tree. Carlea had many deserts in ancient days, but they have been terraformed out of existence. As of the modern day, Carlea plays host to a very diverse ecosystem filled with unique animals and plants.

Darvikus is the fourth planet in the Frealee System and the homeworld of the Analar. Darvikus is the homeworld of the federation's second most populous species and the legislative capital of Illuin. The planet houses several bureaus which help run the United Nations of Florathel, preventing that organization from being too top-heavy and centralized. Due to its importance in galactic history, Darvikus is one of the most well-known planets in the galaxy, and as of the modern day, Darvikus has a population of almost three trillion people, the highest of any terrestrial planet within CFF territory.

Living Standards
Illuin's population has a very high standard of living, as education has always been a very high priority. Since its independence from the Providence Union, Illuin promised a high quality of life to its people, providing many government-sponsored programs and social safety nets for citizens to use. The federation also has high quality education and healthcare systems, and its inexpensive housing. Many areas with high rates of crime have almost instantly vanished due to a sudden lack of the desperation normally required to engage in such activities. Basic necessities like health care and the availability of technology mean that Illuin is a very nice place to live, and this fact along with the carnage of the War of Saiheran Succession has led to a surprisingly large immigrant population.
The federation is very diverse, allowing many ways of living. Its many government-funded social safety nets, designed for many different species and cultures, have marked the federation as a welcoming nation for any species.
Education
Artificial Intelligence tutors were invented eons ago in many nations including Illuin, meaning education is a very simple task. Education is considered to be a birthright, being granted to all intelligent species who are born in or move to the federation. However, education can take many forms. Straight-up downloading information to one's brain has been a common practice, as has implanting memories of learning the information. This has also led to the federation being known as a very progressive nation, as many other large nations of the galaxy shy away from mind uploading and editing in this manner.
Culture
Illuin has a very diverse culture because of its comparatively large immigrant population. The federation admits every species equally into their borders, and treats them all with care and respect. There is still bigotry, but as there is an enforced law against such activities this is dwindling in Illuin.
There are many cultures within Illuin, some of which have fused into unique hybrid cultures found only within its borders. Because of this, the numbers of cultures have skyrocketed into the hundreds, which makes it impossible to control. To fix this, all of the member states have made laws which involve utter and complete freedom of expression, with exceptions for those involving causing harm to others.
While there are many differences between the beliefs and species of individuals, many share similar ideologies, including freedom, social safety nets, and free will. Almost all federation citizens have these beliefs. However, rarer beliefs like purely equal wages regardless of what you do and the total abolition of personal property definitely exist and have influenced the modern federation to some extent.
