The Unity and Progress Party (UPP) was the ruling party of the Martian Republic and later the Union of Vangelia. It was abolished in 6,000 CE at the establishment of the Federation of Vangelia.
The UPP emerged in 2,294 CE from Helian Commonwealth legislators aiming to restore humanity's pre-Armageddon social prosperity. It rose to popularity by appealing to progressives and Martian separatists, a group of its members declaring the independence of the Martian Republic in 2,416 CE. The UPP adopted numerous policies to stay in power, like the creation of the Directorate of State Security (DSS), militarization of the Republic, continuation of democratic elections, and utilization of liberal rhetoric in public affairs. Coordinating the four allowed the party to maintain a populist façade while brutally suppressing any attempts at challenging its power, most infamously during the Martian genocide of the 26th and 27th centuries CE. They were also vital to the Republican conquest of the Helios System.

Final Days
Never have I seen anyone more ungrateful than those Federalists. Humanity was at the brink of extinction and we saved it by turning Mars into a second Earth! Yes, many had to die in the process, but how else would we still be alive?! No one would want to cram themselves in a station surrounded by nothing but the deadly void of space!—A member of the UPP undergoing trial, 6,000 CE
Beliefs
The UPP followed progressive nationalism, according to which a human nation-state was only possible if its central species strove towards sociotechnological progress. While such an ideology would theoretically promote egalitarianism, the party outlawed any opposition to it and would often take harsh action against dissenters, even if they lacked ill intentions. The UPP labeled them as ultraconservatives in the most severe cases, but in enforcing its control over human society for thousands of years, it hypocritically engaged in conservatism too.
