The Precursors were an ancient civilisation that existed in the Milky Way, millions of years before the existence of Humans.

Overview

Little is known about this species, even their true names although they are referred to as the Precursors by Humanity. What is known, is that they were an advanced race, having multiple colonies and installations across space, leaving behind many oddities too such as weird structures, mysterious technology, derelict ships and even anomalous phenomena.

Judging by their remains, they had pointy elongated heads and likely had large brains. They also possessed four limbs, two arms and two legs.

Its is theorised that they might have originated from somewhere in the Perseus Arm due to the higher concentration of structures detected there.

Discovery

The first trace of the Precursors found was an ancient alien warship of some sort, found orbiting a gas giant. This was certainly an interesting find as it prompted a lot of question like "who did it belong to?", "was there an ancient galactic war?" "if so, what caused it?". More evidence of them was found later on when abandoned cities and outposts were found on distant planets. The remains of some Dyson Swarms, Ringworlds and even a fully intact Dyson Sphere were also discovered.

Unfortunately, their DNA has completely degraded, unable to be recovered although there are a few species which are speculated to be possible descendants of the Precursors.

Some Precursor technology has even been reversed engineered to create weapons and spacecraft as well as improving the warp drive.
