Old Bubble

The Old Bubble is a region of eighteen populated systems centered around Veres in the Vyro sector of Avaria. Following the invention of the Seraph drive, space travel experienced a boom unlike any other at the time. It was then that the Old Bubble's systems became of high interest to Veres' nations, harboring either terraforming candidates, natural garden worlds, or unique research opportunities.

For over three centuries, the systems had to develop in isolation, as interstellar travel had remained a matter of decades. Communication was similarly sparse, each having only a vague understanding of the others' statuses. The subsequent discovery of rift travel, bringing forth rapid interstellar expansion, also led to beacons being established in each system, interconnecting them into a distinct region.

To this day, the Old Bubble remains the only significant region of its kind, as sublight interstellar travel is considerably more time-costly in contrast to rift travel. In addition, the density of natural garden planets such as seen in the Old Bubble is considered a statistical anomaly, and the advancement of terraforming technology has led to far less strict requirements for potential candidates.

Nearly five hundred billion people reside in the Old Bubble, largely centered around the systems of Nyrid, Aechilon, Bothar, Iloth, and Hayrel. The central star of Veres has, in contrast, been classified as a historical site, with dense inhabitation only permitted on select worlds.
