Overview
Earth is a temperate terra located in the Sol System. It is the birthplace of humanity, having kept them safe from the dangers of space for hundreds of thousands of years. Earth serves as the capital planet of the Republic of Cygnus-Orion and it is one of, if not the most, important worlds in inhabited space. As of 3021 CE, Earth supports as many as 25 billion permanent residents, most of which reside in the heavily urbanized continent of Africa, to a lesser extent the previously dense continent of Asia.
Due to its importance in human history, Earth stands as the single most universally shared object in human culture across the Milky Way, and as a result, is by far the most guarded and important world to humanity as a whole.
Land Nations
There are many current nations and nation-states spread across the Earth.
North America
Halleia is a small nation stretching from North and South Dakota to the Midwest USA near Michigan and Indiana. The formal name is The United Territories of Halleia (UTH). It is a republic which formed from the old remains of the Great Lakes Confederacy, which collapsed circa 2388. The American Standard State is a nation covering most of Canada, the rest of the USA, and Central America down to Panama. Its formal name is The United American Standard State. It is an oligarchic nation formed from the remains of the three main North American nations, and it has lasted over 820 years independent, and grown since its founding. The Canadian Nation is a democratic, largely disorganized state with a loose government. It is situated largely in the islands above former Canada, as well as the entirety of Greenland, and the coast running down the east of the Hudson Bay.
History
Earth formed around 4.57 billion years ago, just after Sol formed. Earth soon collided with a Mars-sized object, forming Luna (The Moon). Luna's gravitational influence on Earth slowed its rotation down from 5 hours to 24, as well as creating tides in the oceans of Earth.
