Overview
Nodens is an exoplanet orbiting Barnard's star. Its discovery was announced in November 2018, 967 years ago. It appears to be Titan-like in appearance and is covered in a large sea of methane and ethane, with multiple continents scattered everywhere. The oceans also seem to be teeming with unicellular life.
Small "floater" like organisms are an example of an interesting lifeform here. The top of them, resembling a jellyfish floats on top of the sea and have a long tube-like organ that stretches down to deeper depths to suck up microorganisms. Around them they have smaller tentacles that they use to navigate.
First mission and quick encounter with the Tar'tha
The first interstellar manned mission to Barnard's star b, in 2131, found an already existing colony of 150,000 Tar'tha already permanently living on the planet, with around 75,000 extra non-permanant Tar'tha on the planet at any given time. This wasn't a surprise, considering the Titan-like environment the Tar'tha evolved in, and the fact that their civilisation was also in the interstellar age. They had landed on the most northern continent, so that left plenty of room for the human colonists to choose their settlement in. They chose the large eastern continent you can see on this image.
