The X'i are an extinct race of "arachnids" that inhabited the fourth planet of Delta Pavonis.
Appearance/Biology
The X'i resembled spiders, having an almost spherical body, with six legs and two arms. They had a pair of spherical eyes located on separate eyestalks that would move independently from each other.
Little to nothing is known of their internal internal biology due to currently being extinct however written evidence suggests that they at least had more than one stomach. It is unknown if they had any distinct genders.
Culture
Not much is known of their culture however however they seemed to have lived in what looked to be city sized temple-like structures.
Discovery
They were discovered when ruins of some kind were discovered on the surface of Delta Pavonis 4 in 2510. Explorers sent down to the surface noticed what looked like hieroglyphics on some of the sturctures detailing spider-like beings. The language took decades to decode but expert exo-linguists managed to translate it. The hieroglyphs detailed what looked like cities or towns. From the looks of it, their civilisation was similar to ancient Egypt in terms of technology and society. A number of odd looking shapes were found in some of the ruins which may have been ancient gods that they worshipped, indicating a polytheistic, Egypt-like society.
From what was gathered, the X'i were wiped out by "big blasts" which was written under hieroglyphs detailing what looked like explosions in an unknown cataclysm. The most popular theory is that their planet may have had a large moon which passed through the roche limit and broke apart, having some of its ruins fall down to the world below. While no major craters have been found, it is possible that they faded away after centuries if not millennia of natural sand erosion. Other theories include a possible meteor shower as the system contains a belt of asteroids.
Homeworld
Their planet is a ringed desert world, in fouth orbit from Delta Pavonis. It is near the same size as Earth and is completely barren, having no water or life anywhere. It's likely that it was once much like Earth in its past prior to the cataclysm.
