Set roughly in an early 19th century Era Dark-Fantasy World, Gears and Rooks is an anthology of tales and articles focused on world building. The primary origin behind the creation of Gears and Rooks, is my love for fantasy, but dislike of the lack of variety in a lot of fantasy worlds; like the world, like how they are almost always in a medieval setting. Gears and Rooks exists as a unique world that combines the elements of magic, fantastical creatures, and the legendary heroes and villains of fantasy, with the elements of industrialization, technology, and ever-perilous lives of the Victorian Era and the wider scope of storytelling genres the era has incidentally created.
Setting
Gears and Rooks is an anthology that will have tales and articles on people, places, and events spread across a large continent called Inkwerlon. A bloodstained and draconic land, Inkwerlon has endured more than its share in frequent and deadly wars and disasters. The humans and other creatures of Inkwerlon and their nations have been molded by these events, continuing on the violent cycle of the continent's history. Such non-human creatures include:
- Reptilians - While actually being made up of several different species, 'Reptilian' is a common identity held by 4 species: the lizard-like Lacertians, the snake-like Serpentine, the turtle-like Chelydians, and the crocodilian-like Suchans.
- Archosaurians - Another common blanket identity of several different species of reptiles such as the Raptoran and Dactylian
- Messoravem - A diverse species of huge Vultures who venerate the occult, and harshly prosecute the practice of Necromancy.
- Troglodyte - A species of typically warlike apes very similar in their biology and appearance to chimpanzees and Bonobos.
- Didelphids - Opossum people
Contribution Guidelines
As this is a scope focused mainly on worldbuilding, it is very much open to contribution! But there still are a few guidelines:
- Run contributions by me first - You can easily contact me @ MockingMaeve on discord through messaging me via the Amaranth Legacy server. Chances are, as long as your contribution fits the world and time period, I will be more than happy to have you add it to this scope. This goes for any characters, creatures, tales, locations, or events you may want to add to the scope
