This article takes place in the 24 & 26 centuries of Distant Worlds.
The Third Species
Jovian Float Planktons
Gas Giant Floaters
Sahuri Jovian Kingdom
~0.5 milimeters
Marie
A tiny plankton species dwelling in the upper atmosphere of Marie. Protein rich and extremely intelligent
1. Evolution:
They evolved from small microbacteria that came from a comet. They have 2 main eyes and 2 side eyes that detect the same spectrum of light as Humans do. They are deaf as they have no hearing organs.
2. Cannibalism:
Glide Planktons only source of food is their own species, which means that they all of the time consume their species to get energy
3. Acidic bodies and size:
Their bodies have high concentration of acid inside them making them inedible to most species, including Humans. The lenght of the scanned specimen is 0.5mm
4. Incredible speed:
This species has adapted to the terrors of Arachons, having evolved a pair of small but powerful fins. They also glide in the opposite direction of where the wind is coming from, giving them a massive boost in speed, necessary for escaping Archeons
5. Evolved breathing:
The species has evolved to breathe in nitrogen through a tube in their body and convert it to hydrogen in their bodies, and eject it through another tube. The species is on of the many reasons why the gas giant is rich in hydrogen.
6. Extreme intelligence:
They are really intelligent for a plankton species, recognizing specific members of the species and they know what lifefor are a threat to them, avoiding them. Thats the reason Glide Planktons havent been observed alot.
Assessment:
- Safe but do not eat under all circumstances
