Physical

Traits

Almost all Mhera, with the exception of less than a million, can withstand the extreme conditions of the vacuum of space for nearly an hour before the organs begin to cease. Similarly, they can hold their breathe underwater for an hour too and, like being in space, their organs will cease to work if they remain underwater for too long. Their bodies are able to withstand temperatures between 60 C and -15 C but their average body temperature is about 4.5 C.

Body

Mhera seem to resemble cats; whiskers are on their face. Mhera are covered in a thin layer of fur that keeps them warm during winter. They stand around 1.4 meters tall for both genders with long arms and legs. Some, but very rarely, have reached heights of around 2 meters. Their hands have three fingers and a thumb; their fingernails are very sharp. Their hands and feet are the only places on their body where there is little to no fur. Their feet have four toes with sharp toenails; these help the Mhera climb mountains and steep hills.

Evolution

Mhera are descended from larger animals. They first appeared roughly 240,000 years ago at their north and south poles, however, how they got to each polar region remains a mystery. Some of the first "boats" that crossed the seas date back to almost 230,000 years ago, roughly 10,000 years after the Mhera first appeared, indicating quick development of intelligence.

Their population had rapidly decreased about 150,000 years ago, believed to be the first recorded eruption of the Mykia supervolcano, which ejected 3,600km3 of ash and dust and a deadly gas called sulfur dioxide, plunging the moon into a volcanic winter.
