The First Magellanic War refers to a series of conflicts, primarily in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and to a lesser extent in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and the Milky Way, which occurred between the 23rd and the 25th millenia during the FUSS' reconquest of the galaxies.
Background
Being relatively nearby satellite galaxies of the much larger Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds have generally been considered by outsiders as a part of Milky Way politically. While this is mostly true for the SMC, the LMC must be considered with different circumstances. The SMC lacked major interstellar races during the Confederacy of Humanity's (today Confederacy of Borealis) expansion within the Milky Way and towards the clouds, the slightly larger LMC had several of them, most notably the Ysau. These races established considerable empires which eventually submitted largely peacefully to the more advanced and numerous fleets of the humans.
Under Confederate control, the native races of the LMC maintained significant political influence unlike what is seen in the rest of the Milky Way where human migrations and political power generally sidelined them. The Clouds were administered by the Confederacy within the Milky Way's subdivision, and yet their control there were largely nominal. The Confederate leaders in Earth were generally more concerned with affairs of the core regions of the galaxy (particularly regions near Earth), or matters concerning interstate tensions at the far frontier galaxies. Hence, governance was heavily delegated in the LMC, and the Ysau in particular practically controlled a significant portion of their old empire, further expanded with the more advanced colonization technologies originating from the humans.
During the War of the Decamillenial Transition, the LMC's hidden unrest bubbled onto the surface. As conscription was introduced to replace massive losses in manpower and requisitioning of raw materials were implemented, the largely-independent colonists, settlers, nobility, and elite of the non-human races in the LMC reacted negatively and rebelled against the Confederacy. This rebellion were, for the most part, considered of secondary importance by the Confederate leadership, who assumed that the Ysau and their allied species would only fight in the LMC and not threaten the Milky Way proper. While this *was* true, extensions of the controversial policies eventually cracked open a faultline within humanity itself, and after a destructive civil war the Confederacy was shattered and the LMC's races regained their independence, now controlling a larger proportion of their galaxy than before although now sharing it with human colonists.
Three thousand years after the shattering of the Confederacy of Humanity, the newly formed Confederacy of Borealis, and the Milky Way-based state the FUSS had for the most part restored order to vast swathes of the Milky Way. As they began to integrate last holdouts of independent polities in the large galaxy, they began to eye the Magellanic Clouds - still considering it part of the galaxy proper. With the well-mapped wormhole connections and established transport routes between the Milky Way and the clouds, an expedition to reannex these galaxies were seen by their leadership as a good starting point to reestablishing the FUSS' control in the Local Group.
