Izake (Eye-Zah-Kay) is a Void Island located within the Voidsea, within the Sky River Gyre. It is the home world of the Cherra-Zendir, and a member world of the Cosmic Union.
From orbit, Izake appears to be a relatively mundane terrestrial planet. However, the subject of life on it's surface is an entirely different matter. The Cherra-Zendir hug the coastline, and live in heavily fortified cities that they go to great lengths to contain. This is due to what they have dubbed, 'The Reaper Virus' - Reanimated corpses of the deceased which roam and attack the living, in a manner similar to tales of zombies from ancient Earth mythology. These reanimated corpses are called the Zendir, meaning 'Corpses'.
Despite extensive efforts by the Cosmic Union to help both cure the Reaper Virus, and clear the planet of the Zendir, these have proven unsuccessful. Furthermore, it is reported that those who fall while fighting the Zendir reanimate as Zendir themselves. As a result, Izake remains under a permanent state of quarantine, to reduce the risk of Zendir outbreaks on other worlds. Izake is also home to a naturally occurring Node, which has been heavily surrounded by an active garrison, and protected at all times, on both planes of reality, in order to ensure that no outbreaks can occur in the Realmlands.
In addition, Cherra-Zendir who leave this world are heavily monitored, and must always be disposed of in the event of their deaths, to prevent reanimation. Reclaiming the Void Island, and finding a cure for the virus, remain top priorities for the Cherra-Zendir, and local Union researchers.
