Historians and scholars all across the Voidsea speculate that the Technopocalypse was caused by the emergence of Taekni, but this is not strictly accurate - More primitive forms of Taekni were present in various civilizations all across the galaxy, but these were far more localized. |

The Technopocalypse was, without question, one of the singularly most important, and impactful events in the history of the Voidsea, as it marked the biggest shift in how the Cosmic Tide functioned, perhaps since the formation of existence itself. The scale of the event is not known, but based on signals from the Cosmic Abyss, it is speculated to still be ongoing, in all directions outward from the Sky River Gyre.
In essence, it was the complete and total collapse of all sufficiently advanced technology, due to the sudden emergence of the Broadwave, and Taekni. Transmitting rapidly throughout what would come to be known as the Weaveway, both forces spread quickly across the Voidsea, and repurposed vital infrastructure to broadcast itself across a rapidly expanding region.
Suddenly being overcome by these powerful forces, much of the advanced technology of the Void Age was simply unable to cope - Systems that were not totally hijacked were often overloaded, while environmental factors shifted rapidly, new astral-phenomena Voidcraft were not designed to deal with materialized, and more, all happened at once. Equipment that was beyond what is now considered Level Berkanan technology became useless, while anything at Level Ehwaz or higher was destroyed outright, detonating where it stood due to energy overload.
It marked the end of the Void Age, and the end of many empires, federations, and factions that had existed for centuries by this point. Only a handful of interstellar civilizations survived it, and they did not do so unscathed. Void Island-wide civilizations tended to fare better, but plenty fell apart during the event. It served as something of a Voidsea-wide reset, putting various intelligent Kinde back to basics, bar some scattered, yet isolated semblances of Voidsea-faring factions remaining. for a long time, Taekni and the Broadwave took priority on many worlds, while research was undertaken to understand the new conditions any return to the stars would require. At the same time, Nodes began to open up all across various worlds, connecting many together by way of the Realmlands - and the many beasts that roamed between.
Not only did this cataclysmic event forever change the function of the Voidsea, it changed much of it's geography as well - regions comprised of various destroyed Voidcraft, held together with gravity, such as the Elevenlands and the Suesueaye Graveway formed from the ruins of the former empires. Regions more unique to the Arcane, such as the Fey Rest and the Scar formed over time as well.
It's importance to the history of the galaxy cannot be underestimated, as it was the basis for much of what would come to be many millennia later.
Description
The Technopocalypse was not one singular thing, nor was it a singular event - Were it either, or one of each, the end result would not have come to be.
It contained several components - The newly emerging Taekni and it's companion emergent, the Broadwave.
When the Broadwave first began as Taekni emerged and became a regular staying power within the Voidsea, there wasn't a single civilization that was prepared - Integrated as Taekni is with Technology, many systems simply overloaded or were no longer shackled to their safety restrictions. Starships became unable to function, artificial life forms rose up in revolt, communication lines broke down, navigation systems failed - This left many worlds entirely isolated, unable to communicate with the wider galaxy, unable to trade for their essential resources, and left to fend for themselves in a new era of Techno-Magick.
Worse still, many forms of advanced technology were outright lost during this time period.
