Lareas Alliance

From Amaranth Legacy, available at amaranth-legacy.community

Template:!Nation Infobox Lareas Alliance is the name given by modern nations for the largest civilization in the history of the cosmos, which was first created in the Lareas region of Florathel. Scientists believe that Psinus Majora was a very major world, but it is unknown which was their true homeworld. The first known evidence of their existence is from roughly 7,128,320,000 years ago, which means that almost no artifacts remain from the civilization. Because of their antiquity, they stand as the most mysterious species in Florathel region.

Overview

Most scholarly discussions of Lareas Alliance often rapidly tend towards vagueness and a frustrating lack of solid evidence. There isn't much evidence that they were ever even there, but what little evidence there is points to some sort of civilization spanning almost the entirety of the ancient Cosmoria, with towering cities and heavily colonized dead planets dating to over seven billion years ago.

Absolutely nothing is known about the multitude of species which inhabited it. The different species are often portrayed as different colored clouds of smoke as a placeholder until we find any information about what they look like. They have become the figures of folkore in countless advanced civilizations due to their seemingly impossible megastructures (among other things) and, and would continue to be treated as such even into the present day.

The first nation to discover evidence of Lareas Alliance that we know of is the Providence Union, a nation which colonized the entirety of Florathel and its nearby satellites, a little over 6 million years ago. Once evidence was found, many of the citizens were likely fascinated by them, and how exceedingly powerful a civilization they were, and how they seemingly completely vanished into the wind.

The most well-known relic of their existence was likely the "Impossible Dyson Swarm" surrounding the star Lykare, as the dyson swarm should collapse in minutes, but it has been standing since at least the fall of Lareas Alliance itself.

They would also create the planet Koralend, located in intergalactic space near Avana, and its strange appearance, like a black hole with land. Very little is known about this structure, and it seems to erase any craft approaching it from existence.

Much later, the existence of Lareas Alliance was discovered by the United Nations of Florathel. Though many of their relics would be lost in the calamitous events of the Fall of the Providence Union, some remained, such as Deralend and the "Stellar Rosette", a system in which eleven almost identical red dwarf stars orbit each other in a ring, and have several habitation megastructures surrounding it.

Recent studies on the extremely enigmatic intergalactic globular cluster Telmarai shows that it was involved with interactions with Lareas Alliance, which ended with the enigmatic civilisation propelling Telmarai to a significant speed of light out of Florathel because of large-scale conflicts. There is evidence for this in the form of large dust clouds containing explosive, hypergolic and radioactive material near the site where Telmarai originally left the galaxy.

Archaeology

The Kiloro Spheres, one of the oddest structures known.

One of the most archaeologically interesting sites related to Lareas Alliance is the planet of Psinus Majora. Psinus Majora is located in territory affected by the Forever War, and as such is not studied anywhere near as much as it deserves to be. Aside from this, there is a bizarre megastructure located just outside of the territory of the Cnara-Frealee Federation known as the Kiloro Spheres. The Kiloro spheres appear to be completely solid with no active support structures, and seemingly no purpose either. It is a mystery why the things haven't collapsed billions of years ago.

Lykare, the parent star of many thousands of unique artifacts from this era.

Another oft-studied artifact from the Lareas Alliance is the Impossible Dyson Swarm around Lykare. This structure should have collapsed into the star eons ago, but it still exists today. Thus, studying this structure has spurred resesarch into gravity manipulation. Lykare hosts thousands of other artifacts as well, which are being studied further.

The Swarm

Much of the surviving written material from the Alliance's time refers to an event or species or nation or something known as the Swarm. This swarm seems to have been controlled by an incredibly powerful consciousness and composed of countless self-replicating probes. There are still many dead specimens of these probes floating in deep space.

The Lareas Alliance was prospering, having conquered the vast majority of Cosmoria and experimenting with crossing the border between universes. One such experiment, taking place at the hidden cluster of Telmarai, actually succeeded, though they didn't live long enough to realize. After punching the hole into the previously unknown plane of Andvaris, life support came offline and the airlocks were opened on the station, killing everyone in minutes. The consciousness which ruled that plane then took control of the manufacturing facilities, creating vast numbers of highly maneauverable self-replicating ships. These ships were then sent out among the stars of the cluster, wiping out the entire population before a signal could reach across the void to Florathel.

This consciousness, which took the name of its plane, sent its Swarm across Cosmoria, destroying everything in its path. The Swarm had conquered Florathel and destroyed the center of power of the Lareas Alliance by the time a last-ditch effort sent three ships to Telmarai. They almost lost to the Swarm before sealing the fracture to Andvaris, blocking Andvaris' control over the Swarm. The swarm fell silent across Cosmoria in an instant, ending the struggle.

Though the Swarm was defeated, many species and worlds were destroyed. The ancient Apsilan species of the Pathos Cluster was almost exterminated by the Swarm, and even today their population numbers only in the millions. Thousands of other species fared worse, and the Apsilans only survived because the fracture to Andvaris was sealed before the last of them were killed. Andvaris was never heard from again, but the few who know of its existence fear the implications of another incursion.
