Martial Space
More actions
Martial Space is an astropolitical region of space near to the core of Via Aylathiya with various historical definitions. Some consider Martial Space to be a political bloc where the Greater Martial Consilium is the dominant polity while others believe that Martial Space is a more physical region defined by its proximity to Scipio. With an estimated population of 125 quintillion, Martial Space has been an important region both economically and militarily for tens of thousands of years. Continually inhabited for well over 200,000 years, the region is noticeably dimmer than the rest of Via Aylathiya, with many of its stars harvested into oblivion, many of its planets stripped of material, and even its interstellar dust noticeably less dense.
The region was first colonized well before the common era by numerous ancient civilizations. The Triumvirate Civilization would be the first civilization to unite the region under its control. Ruling from the Ventemir nebula, their control of the region was near absolute for nearly 100,000 years. With the fall of the Triumvirate Civilization came the ascension of the Kaiser, an absolute monarch, based on Aegyn, that had de jure control over all of the Triumvirate's former territory. The dynasty on Aegyn would fall and be replaced with another, the Neo-Terran Party who ruled from Scipio. Eventually, the Neo-Terran Party would give way to one nearly deified ruler, the Imperator, whose dynasty has mostly been in power since its ascension in 32,988 CE.
The region has had many phases in which the organization of the central government changed. One thing has remained constant and that is no central government has ever had sovereignty over its territory. The central government shares sovereignty with trillions of disparate organizations, the region of space far too vast for any single empire to have absolute control over it. The result is a convoluted mess of a government that never qualifies as a "state" but merely trillions of para-states vying for supremacy under the Imperator.
Abridged History
Martial Space has many eras in which history is divided. These eras are defined by how the central government of Martial Space operated. There is rarely a stark transition between the eras. Flag changes are a colloquial way many define the eras even if governance does not change.
Classical Triumvirate
| Flag | Type | Capital | Founding Species | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Triarchy | The Triumvirate was ruled by The Three. Powerful beings named The Administrator, Molonov, and Mahou. It was the first and longest lasting of the periods. |
Sub-Regions
Florescence
Florescence is a fairly small region centered around a black hole towards the center of Martial Space. While having the highest metallicity of anywhere in Martial Space, Florescence is still far from the metallicity in, the rest of Via Aylathiya. Life is comparatively rare in the region and even less common in the area around it. Even so, The Ravis and Llæns call this region home. Florescence is controlled by the Greater Martial Consilium's state of Blumeheim which has drained it of resources, causing it to be dependent on imports to survive.
As of the current year, Florescence has a population of over 17 quintillion mostly residing around its central black hole Mei'os. At 41 million stars in size, Florescence is small for a galactic region. It is one of the most densely populated regions of space as well as one of the highest valued regions per system. The average system within Florescence is more valuable than those elsewhere, causing it to have one of the highest costs of living in its region.
Name
The Ravin name for the region, "Vynos" is best translated as the word, "Florescence." Florescence means, "the process of flowering." The name comes from their region being origin point of their religion. Many believe that their religion will eventually "flower," causing it to spread rapidly among individuals residing outside of Florescence. Originally, the name was more meant to represent how their civilization would colonize the rest of the universe. Once that has proven impossible, The Ravis largely shifted to a more peaceful means of spreading their faith.
Astrography
Florescence, while controlled mostly by Blumeheim, is divided in two parts, Ravi-Empyrea and Llæ-Empyrea. Together these two nations make up the two jurisdictions of Blumeheim. The central black hole of Florescence, Mei'os, is the most populous body in the core at almost 500 quadrillion inhabitants within its direct orbit. Other important worlds include Alphos and Yuusha, the home worlds of the Ravis and Llæns respectively.
Florescence has a very low metallicity, causing life to be very rare within it. While in many galaxies, bacteria-covered worlds are relatively common, Florescence only has one planet known to have naturally evolved life, Alphos. The other planet to have life since antiquity, Yuusha, shows evidence of terraformation, suggesting that the life on its surface is from another world or genetically engineered.
Ventemir
Main Article: Ventemir
The second largest nebula within Via Aylathiya, Ventemir represents one of the cradles of civilization therein. Containing over one billion stars within its clouds, Ventemir dwarfs even many proper galaxies within Cosmoria. Ventemir has a diameter of about 13,100 light years and has a total mass of 9 billion M☉. Ventemir is dominated by three nations, the Entente of Ventemir, Tenshi and the Greater Martial Consilium. Tensions between the Tenshi and the other two nations have created a sort of demilitarized zone on their border, dividing the body between its controllers.
Ventemir is primarily populated by Atlins, then Humans, and Orcubor with a small minority of Vexlores and Naidarans making up most of the rest. Most of Ventemir's 25 quintillion people live in three megastructures named Gira Gira, Odo, and Hanabi near to its core. The rest of the population lives on various worlds scattered throughout the region.
Major worlds
In the center lies three gravitationally dominant bodies named Gira Gira, Odo, and Hanabi. Gira Gira is the strangest among the three as it is a Quasi-star. This body, the most populous within the entirety of Martial Space, has a total luminosity of ten million L☉ . This ridiculous luminosity sterilized the core of Ventemir for most of its history, causing what should be a nebula abounding in life to have only three native sapient life forms. Despite this, Gira Gira has the largest population of the galaxy due to the immense number of orbiting habitats and artificial worlds orbiting the body. Currently, the body is jointly controlled by the Entente of Ventemir and the central government.
Odo is a Birch Planet, meaning a huge artificial construct built around a black hole, where time runs 1% slower than the standard flow of time. Additionally, the escape velocity is 1% of light speed. Consequently, the body is mostly used for industrial procedures rather than actual living as even with advanced technology, the change in acceleration from 0 to 1% of light speed would vaporize most organisms. The only way to accelerate slowly enough to leave the body without instantly dying is to use a nearly astronomical-unit-long rail gun that "slowly" accelerates passengers to 1% light speed only for them to slow down once out of Odo's gravity well.
Hanabi is a structure built around the only Magnetars within the region. Since these bodies usually only last for 10,000 years at their incredibly high energy output, continual maintenance is required. When Hanabi begins to slow down its energy output, a millennia-lasting process begins in which a large ring is built as close as possible to the body. Then, using a captured red dwarf for power, the body is bombarded with gravitational waves that recharge its rotation and increase its mass and magnetic field. While it would be more profitable to simply find another Magnetar, the cultural and political power resting within Hanabi necessitates the maintenance of its energy output.
