'We call it that because that's exactly what it is - A dead-fucking-end. Or, well, was, I suppose.' Unknown Failstater.

Dead End is a Void Cove orbiting the Void Island of Failstate. It is located within the Halcyon Verge Void Archipelago, deep within the Quiet Expanse Null Zone. Originally a barren world, it has since been settled and transformed into a trade hub, resupply stop, and manufacturing centre. It is a part of the Cosmic Union.

It earned it's unique name due both to it's relationship to Failstate, and the state of the rest of the Halcyon Verge system. Before achieving rudimentary Voidsea travel, the people of Failstate simply referred to it as "The Rock" - A name it still is colloquially known as.

It was inhabited during the Void Age, and was the centre of operations of the terraforming project for Failstate, acting as a co-ordinator for various colonization efforts in the system. Generations later, it was hoped that some of the technology there would still be serviceable, or capable of being repaired, and failing that, some resources of some sort could be found there. Both ended up being untrue. This, and the sheer distances involved to other worlds, and the limited resources they had to improve the situation lead to the Cove becoming known as a Dead End for any hopes of improving Failstate's lot in life - And thus, the cove earned it's name.

Upon the arrival of the Cosmic Union however, Dead End was suddenly made a centrepiece in the recovery of the system once more. Now, it is a glowing beacon within Failstate's otherwise dark skies.

History

Dead End was originally settled some time towards the end of the Void Age, possibly within the final few decades of the Age. While it was never developed in any major ways, multiple settlements cropped up on it, each focused on tackling different aspects of infrastructure and Voidsea travel. It functioned as a temporary capital for the system. It was intended to be a Trade Hub, which could ship goods back and forth, and would act as part of the Solar Union's Trade Relay Network. In many ways, the world was still in it's infancy when it came to colonization.

When the Technopocalypse struck, much of the infrastructure on the Cove was destroyed. Unfortunately, it suffered a 100% casualty rate.

It remained uninhabited, and unvisited for thousands of years - Until Failstate was able to send rudimentary rockets to it's surface, and conduct a survey mission to try to find any useful material. This mission ended in failure, earning the Cove it's name. It would remain uninhabited further until the arrival of the Cosmic Union.
