Overview
The Mozj'la are a bold and adaptive species native to the Fujin Galaxy, specifically the planet Ashta Prime. As one of the four major intelligent civilizations in the galaxy, they form a core part of the Athezians Commonwealth, alongside the Ketla, Anea, and the Athezians themselves. Revered as the pioneers of modern Krolena governance, the Mozj'la were the first to introduce the concept of a funganal monarchy, inspired by the Athezians' vision for a united Fujin Galaxy.
History
The Mozj'la, in their present biological form, can be traced back as far as 342,000 BCE. They are believed to have evolved from aquatic fauna native to Ashta Prime, originally thriving as amphibious creatures. Vestiges of this evolutionary origin are still evident today—small gill structures atop their heads remain functional, allowing them to breathe underwater for limited periods. Around 256,000 BCE, Ashta Prime underwent a dramatic environmental shift known as "The Destabilisation." During this era, tectonic upheaval reshaped the planet’s surface. Rivers vanished or reformed, great rainforests gave way to expanding deserts, and oceans either boiled or froze in response to extreme climate volatility.
As the Destabilisation waned around 240,000 BCE, land-based predators re-emerged and reclaimed their ecological niches. One such region, the Great Hunting Ground, a continent rich in prey, became a battleground for survival. It is widely believed that the Mozj'la were once prey animals within this territory. In response to escalating environmental chaos by 254,000 BCE, early Mozj'la are thought to have migrated toward the soaring green plains of Ashta Prime, escaping the worst of the upheaval.
With the predator population suppressed by planetary instability, the Mozj'la experienced a population boom in the absence of natural threats. As ecosystems restabilized, they faced new pressures from returning predators, forcing them to rely on tactics, communal strategy, and innovation over brute strength to survive. Over millennia, they developed more sophisticated tools and eventually entered their version of the Bronze Age, laying the groundwork for permanent settlements, agriculture, and warfare. By 215,000 BCE, the Xojourn Tribe, one of the oldest known Mozj'la civilizations, had begun constructing monumental temples devoted to a pantheon of gods and rulers. A notable example is the Temple of Hartulo, the Goddess of Agriculture, located on the western coast of Khora, a small island in Ashta Prime's largest ocean. Remarkably, this structure remains mostly intact to this day.
Xojourn temple architecture followed a distinctive style: a massive upright cylindrical core formed the temple’s body, with a spiraling staircase wrapping around the exterior, leading worshippers through ascending tiers of ritual space. This layout reflects their cosmological beliefs in ascension, cycles, and renewal.
