"Trust the judgement of the Ravens" - Kin Proverb

The Argenravis are a sentient, large, avian Kinde, located both across many Void Islands across the Sky River, it's surrounding Gyres, and the Realmlands.

Characterized by their size and strength relative to it, the Argenravis would be, and in some places is, the dominant predator of it's ecosystems - were it not for the fact that they find themselves often in symbiotic relationships.

Though it is somewhat unclear as to where precisely they originated from, the Argenravis have found themselves sharing a deep intermingling with Kin culture all across the galaxy, particularly those from the Inner Three Core worlds of Venus, Earth, and Mars. They are also the dominant species on the world of Corax.

Amongst the Kin, the Argenravis are not considered to be alien in the slightest - They are considered “Kin” within Kin culture - alongside Ravens, Crows, and other avians. Kin do not tolerate disrespect towards Argenravis, and likewise for Argenravis towards Kin.

History

The origins of the Argenravis is something of a mystery - They possess no records of their own origins, and they are widely distributed across the galaxy, leading many to believe that they were a space-faring Kinde that fell during the Technopocolypse, or are the descendants of various avian species that were exported to other worlds. Many more point out that if this is the case, there should be significantly more variation within their evolution, but the Argenravis across the galaxy are relatively similar. Other suspect that, like many other species, Taekni caused a mutation to occur within an avian species that created the Taekni, but the same issue arises with a lack of variety. Investigations into where precisely the Argenravis came from are constantly underway within the Cosmic Union.

Regardless, the history of their Kinde is as varied as any others - They have had ideologies, beleifs, ideologies, and various political structures, depending on where they are found. For example, on Earth, they are all but fully intergrated within the Kin. On the world of Corax however, despite their closeness to the Kin, they are more independent from Kin society, and operate their own socal structures.

Overall however, it has been noted that the Argenravis has developed a very close relationship with the Kin - Even those of the world of Corax consider the Kin to very their closest allies, and are very willy to work alongside them as, both as members of the Cosmic Union, but also as one of the first members of the Ascension Union, when the Sol System first sent starships to the Luhman star system.

Venus	The Argenravis of Venus had a close relationship with the Kin, and were often used by them to fly between the floating islands leftover from the Age of Void. This created a close relationship with the Kin there.
Earth	Argenravis of this world are all but considered Kin in their entirety. They are often associated with the cold, due to their penchent for Ice-based Taekni. There was a period of time wherein conflict was found between them, but this period rapidly came to a close. Now, Argenravis are completely intergrated into Kin society.
Mars	The Argenravis and Martian Kin had a longer history of conflict than those of Earth - Due to deep manipulations by the Martian Elite, the Kin were prompted to consider the Argenravis monsters. Meanwhile, in a parrallel development, Argenravis tyrants encouraged the hunting of the Kin to establish their dominance across the red planet. This period of conflict only came to an end due to one of the earliest known ancestors to the Valhallan Brotherhood - the Sky-Seekers, made up of both Argenravis and Kin both. Over time, the elites of both civilizations fell, and the manipulations of the elite were exposed, and the Argenravis and Kin of Mars began the road to reconciliation.
Corax	Finding themselves alone on the planet that would become known as Corax, the Argenravis constructed their own civilization based around a pack-structure, which in modern times is more ceremonial than practical. Alone, they developed quite differently, putting high value in their independence, but also with a strict code of honour and duty to their superiors.
Quartz	On a multi-Kinde world like Quartz, the Argenravis were one of many hundreds of Kinde that rose from the ashes of the Technopocolypse. Quartz Argenravis are as intergrated within the cities and social structures of Quartz as any other Kinde. In the past, they, alongside their riders, were responsible for hunting for food to keep the stranded populations alive. For this reason, many Quartzians consider the Argenravis to be Guardians.

Anatomy and Biology

Argenravis are avian beings, resembling birds found on Earth - They have slim bodies, wings, beaks, and claws. They often have feathers in black, grey, white, blue, and red. Most are of only one colour, but there are those of mixed plumage.

For being avian, they are enormous creatures - On average, they tower over fully-grown Kin, reaching up to 2.5 meters tall, though larger specimens reach 3 meters tall. From wingspan to wingspan, they can reach up to ten meters. They are fully capable of carrying up to two adult Kin with ease, due to being substantially stronger than their appearance and potential ancestry may suggest.

Despite being sentient, they are not capable of verbal language like many humanoid species. While capable of some motor skills required to operate technology, unless that technology is designed with them in mind, it is significantly harder for them to utilize it.

Language

Argenravis language is a multi-faceted concept - Between members of their own Kinde, and even some other Avian Kinde, they are able to formulate languages based on various calls and sounds they can make utilizing their syrinxes. These languages are not too different from languages found in Humanoids on a practical scale, the major differences being in the organs, and the sounds those organs are capable of making. For communication with Kin however, it is another matter entirely.

The Argenravis are incapable of formulating words in the same way that many Humanoid species can - They can, however, understand a language that is being spoken to them. Due to how interconnected the Kin and the Argenravis are, a common language was required between the two.

Many Kin learn Argenravis spoken language, and for the two to communicate in their native languages - However, a parallel language often developed in tandem with this, which became known as the "Ravis Dance" language - Though the name is misleading. It is not a dance, but rather, more closely related to Human Sign Language - The Raven will make various gestures using their wings, claws, and beaks, in order to communicate with Kin, who will learn to understand the language from an early age, both via formal education, and common useage and interpersonal interaction with the Argenravis in their community. This allows for communication between the two Kinde.

Writing

Argenravis writing also exists, and will sometimes be used if available. If paper or other writing materials are not available, then the Argenravis will use their claws to mark into the dirt, or even rocks if needed. As with all Kinde throughout the galaxy, their languages vary depending on where they originate. For example, the Argenravis written language on Earth and Venus are the exact same as the Kin languages there. On Mars however, there was a far wider variety of Argenravis languages, due to their extended history of conflict with the Martian Kin following the start of the Taekni Age. Though now over, these dialects remain.

Life Cycle

Argenravis hatch from eggs, which are cared for by both other Argenravis, and where applicable, Kin. They are considered adolescent for the first ten years of their lives, learning to fly, being formally educated, and learning Taekni.

After the age of ten, they are considered full grown. They live on average for 80 years, though technology and healthy lifespans can help them to survive for far longer than this.
