Overview

Oblivion Mystara (AC -1), known by many through his self-titled championship as the "One True Heir," is a legendary Rufescent-Amaranth Heir of unparalleled power and influence in world history. Born on the eve of the 3,000th year of the Mavimyst, his arrival triggered the subsequent third-recorded Mavishift, making the turn of the millennium to that of the most turbulent period in all of history, recorded or otherwise.

His creation was of monumental importance not only to Haven, but also to the entirety of Creation, as the hands of fate far beyond the world's azure skies acted in unison to ensure his coming into being.

Origins of the Ardent

From the depths of the Void of Thavma, the enigmatic Mystara, the being whose name he would unknowingly claim as his "family" title, manipulated the Remnant essence of Amaranth. This essence, which had Contravened the former state of the world from the realm of Ambrosia to that of the Mavimyst, formed a being born from the very concept of planet Haven's continuance within Creation.

According to the enigmatic "Ardent Prophecy," carved upon the peak of the Iusto, the world's highest point; a being known simply as the "Dragon" would be born somewhere within Haven and would rise to herald the Ultimate End of all Creation.

Throughout history, this figure has been misconstrued as several individuals, such as the ancient Foremost Power of the Alcadrago, Agarelethon; or with that of Apollyoth Spiritcrown, the Ninth Empress of the West. However, in truth, the prophecy had always been in reference to Oblivion Mystara, as its carving was the hand of the omnipotent and omniscient Golden Sovereign.

The Heir's Purpose

Despite this grim foretelling, Oblivion has proven himself worthy of the status afforded to him as the world's very will to exist made flesh. Throughout his relatively short life, he has saved the entire planet numerous times. Even within the early months of his existence — alongside his ally and future wife, Serendipity — he waged a personal war against an all-powerful God in defense of the world, defeating the powerful Animordred, Divine of the Ardent.

Beyond these great victories, the two of them would lead the greatest force of Light in world history, forming the Champions of Haven with numerous other heroic individuals from every corner of the Known World.

Oblivion is an immensely powerful individual; perhaps the single-most powerful in all the world. With this great power, he dedicates every moment of every day to the service of the world. As an Amaranth Heir, Oblivion has no need for sleep, food, or the pleasures of the flesh or mind. He has no interest in anything that does not further the goal of protecting the planet and its people. Any and all beings or forces that wish to harm or subjugate either are his sworn enemies; and shall be destroyed by his hand alone.

The many Divines of the Thirteen Realms, who serve as the ultimate example of this perversion of domination, are his prime targets. These Outworld aliens demand worship from mortals, claiming themselves as Lords of aspects of the world, while the weak-minded willingly put on the chains of slavery, even thanking their masters for it for thousands of years. Oblivion swears that one day, the rot of the Gods shall fall upon his Alizarin Blades, and none shall ever threaten Haven again.

Personality

The personality of the One True Heir is as intricate and difficult to unravel as his nature and triumphs. His character is bound in layers of internal complexities, much of which remain hidden beneath a cold and inscrutable exterior. Rarely does he reveal the depth of his emotions, thoughts, or conflicts to those around him, choosing instead to carry the weight of his existence in silence.

Because so much of his true self is concealed, the image belonging to most of those around him's hold of Oblivion is colored by a largely incomplete and often misleading or inaccurate perspective. To many, he appears as little more than a distant, relentless force; an unfeeling instrument of cosmic will.

Few perceive the turmoil, contradictions, and fierce devotion that drive his every action. This divergence between perception and reality creates a figure who is largely alone in his make amongst his fellows, where even his greatest virtues are easily mistaken for flaws, and his most profound struggles go unseen by all but the rare few who can glimpse the hidden core of his being.

Emotional Complex

Greater to his nature than his mere general demeanor is his emotional landscape; one which is defined by profound internal contradictions, where immense capacity for love, loyalty, and devotion coexist with deep-seated self-loathing, hypocrisy, and anger. Beneath his stoic exterior, every emotion he experiences is intense, absolute, and often in direct conflict with the ideals he outwardly champions as the exemplar. This internal dissonance shapes not only his actions, but also the endless and internal silent battles he wages within himself each day.

At his core, he harbors a fierce and binding love for the world and all life within it, a love so complete that it defines his very purpose for existence. Yet this same devotion is burdened by his acknowledgment of the methods he employs to protect it—methods born of violence, domination, and destruction. He cannot ignore that in defending life, he often mirrors the very evils he exists to eradicate, and this awareness gnaws at him, forming a foundation of enduring internal conflict and self-reproach.

Love of the Dragon

Despite his seemingly cold, driven, and detached exterior, Oblivion is fully capable of feeling deep and abiding love for others. His demeanor may project indifference, even hostility at times, but beneath it lies a profound emotional core tied intrinsically to his very nature. As the living embodiment of the world's will to live, Oblivion’s existence is not one of mechanical duty or blind obedience; it is a conscious, willful act of devotion. He must, by necessity, love the world, not as an abstract ideal; rather as a living, breathing entity of its own rights, worthy of sacrifice and protection.

This love is not sentimental, obligational, situational, or indulgent, but absolute and all-encompassing, a fundamental pillar of his being. Without it, his mission to preserve life would be hollow, driven by obligation rather than genuine purpose. True preservation, in Oblivion's view, can only be achieved through a sincere and unyielding affection for that which is being protected. In this way, love is not just an emotion for Oblivion — it is the very essence of his strength, the foundation that sustains his will, and the silent force that underlies every act of violence he commits in defense of the world’s continuance. Without that love, he would be nothing more than a hollow weapon, severed from the meaning that defines his existence

To simplify: "true will;" the genuine and conscious desire to survive — cannot exist solely as a product of base instinct or external obligation. It must be rooted in an inherent love within the individual. This love may manifest as a deep affection for oneself, a recognition of one's own worth and the desire to continue existing. Or, it may manifest as a profound love for others, a devotion to those who give life meaning beyond the self.

Without such love, survival reduces itself to mechanical instinct, an empty perpetuation of existence without purpose or drive. True will is an active force, fueled by the conviction that life— either one’s own or that of others — is inherently valuable and worth fighting for. It is the presence of this inner love that transforms mere survival into an act of meaning, imbuing existence with purpose and resilience even in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Yet do not be mistaken: His love for the world is one not born from a mechanical byproduct of his in-born nature, but rather a true and conscious love, forged through honest choice. Though he was created as the living will to protect Haven, the depth of his affection is not imposed upon him by design; it is a decision he renews with every breath he takes.

However, this propensity ultimately works in accordance to his respective function in the world, as true love, by its very nature, requires the freedom to withhold from it — to choose not to care, to walk away, to abandon. Though this is more born from circumstance and less a direct causality.

Oblivion possesses that freedom, and it is in his continual refusal to forsake the world, despite the burdens, sacrifices, and contradictions it demands of him, that his love finds its authenticity. His binding to the world's protection born form a willful, enduring devotion to a world he could, if he wished, despise or abandon; yet one chooses to instead cherish above all else.

Philosophy

Oblivion Mystara’s philosophy is one of immense complexity; an endless depth of radical, uncompromising devotion to absolute equality, ruthless justice, and the inviolable sovereignty of the self — forged through a worldview born of endless struggle against domination in all its machinations and forms.

He stands as a being willing to wield annihilation and terror to protect the sanctity of life, while despising both the tyrants who demand worship, and the meek who offer it. To Oblivion, no being has the right to elevate themselves above another, and any system — whether Divine, mortal, or cosmic — that demands submission, must be opposed unto its final breath.

Yet, within this righteous fury lies deep self-contradiction: while he fights to destroy all hierarchies, he imposes his own indomitable will upon the world, becoming a tyrant of his own creed, and he knows it.

His hatred for the gods, his contempt for the kneeling, and his belief that existence without authenticity is ultimately a worthless and pathetic swath of "life; all this combine to form the bedrock of his relentless war to preserve Haven.

Absolute Light Born of Necessary Darkness

Oblivion Mystara, within Creation's inherent morality, stands as an embodiment of "Absolute Light;" meaning while he inherently aligns his being with that of Light and goodness, he often will employ methods typically associated with that of Darkness and evil in order to achieve his goals. His philosophy is defined by an unwavering commitment to the complete and utter annihilation of any and all who pose even the slightest ruminations of threat to the world, irrespective of circumstance or intent. Those who claim dominion over others are, in his judgment, permanently beyond any measure of forgiveness.

In a sense, it could be said that he represents the "darker-side" of heroism so to speak. He operates almost as an automaton, endlessly driven by self-righteousness and an unshaken arrogance; fully convinced that his beliefs are synonymous with cosmic law itself.

His certainty in the righteousness of his charge renders him near immovable, making meaningful debate or persuasion towards the contrary nigh impossible; comparable to attempting to reverse the Moon’s orbit through conversating with it.

Despite this "darker" tone to what most would classify as "good;" Oblivion's existence serves an essential and required purpose. A world without individuals who believe completely in themselves and prioritize the "greater good" above even their own lives would be paralyzed, unable to act until a consensus on morality could be reached. His brand of moral absolutism provides the decisive force necessary for action in times of world shattering crisis.

However, such power demands balance. Figures like Serendipity, and the broader Champions of Haven, exist to direct and restrain Oblivion when his absolutism risks going too far, ensuring that his unyielding pursuit of good does not itself become a source of harm to the world.

Hatred for the Demanding

To Oblivion Mystara, those who believe themselves greater than another are the vilest villains in existence, embodying the deepest corruption of the natural order. He views such arrogance as the root of all suffering, oppression, and injustice in the world. In his eyes; the moment an individual elevates themselves above another, they commit a fundamental act of violence against the very concept of existence itself. It is not merely pride or vanity; it is a willful perversion of the truth that all beings are inherently equal.

Oblivion sees this mindset as the source from which tyranny, enslavement, and cruelty flow. Every war waged for conquest, every life taken for power, every chain forged for subjugation can be traced back to the belief that one being is entitled to stand above another. To hold oneself as superior is, to him, a betrayal not only of others but of one's own existence; a self-imposed severing from the fabric of true form life.

Those who claim superiority are, in his judgment, beyond redemption, having forfeited their right to coexist within the world as equals. They are not just misguided; they are enemies of life itself, deserving only total and merciless eradication.

Chains of Worship

This principle fuels Oblivion Mystara’s particular hatred toward the Divines of Haven, whom he views as the ultimate embodiment of the hierarchical ideals he most vehemently despises. To Oblivion, the Divines represent the purest and most obscene violation of the fundamental equality he holds sacred.

They do not simply claim to exist above mortals; they demand to be exalted, revered, and worshiped as omnipotent, flawless, and transcendent beings. Their very existence is an institutionalization of the belief that some are inherently greater than others; a notion that Oblivion sees as a betrayal of the natural order and an unforgivable affront to the dignity of all life.

In his eyes, the Divines’ existence perpetuates a system of bondage, stripping mortals of their innate sovereignty and forcing them into willing subjugation. Every temple built in their honor, every prayer uttered in their name, is a living insult to everything Oblivion stands for.

This intense hatred and demonization extends towards even those who consider another to be greater than themselves; upholding this ideal as equally contemptible. He views the act of elevating someone as an ultimate aggrandized example or exemplar as a pathetic and willful submission to self-imposed bondage, believing that any who willingly accepts the chains placed upon them by another is unworthy even of acknowledgment. To live rightly within the world, one must hold the absolute belief that no being is greater or lesser than any other; all are inherently and immutably equal. Survival itself demands this understanding:

In his eyes; the act of elevating someone as an example or exemplar is not an innocent admiration, but a deliberate and pathetic act of self-imposed bondage. It is a willful surrender of one’s innate sovereignty, and a conscious choice to accept chains fashioned by another’s vile will. For Oblivion, any being who willingly submits themselves to another’s perceived greatness forfeits their dignity and becomes unworthy even of acknowledgment.

If one were to call Oblivion their hero, he would respond with open contempt, seeing it as an attempt to impose superiority upon him, through the forcing of their own self-imposed inferiority an act he finds among the greatest offenses possible.

Sovereignty of the Self

Oblivion additionally holds that the eternal preservation of individual identity stands above any allegiance to a greater whole — even to the world itself; with this belief forming a strange yet internally consistent causality, one that borders on self-contradiction. If any collective seeks to suppress, erase, or extinguish the sanctity of individual identity, then that collective must be opposed — and, if necessary, destroyed.

The integrity of the self is paramount; no cause, no society, no institution holds the right to demand the sacrifice of one's true being or essence of self. To Oblivion; existence without authenticity is no existence at all, and any system that demands such a sacrifice is an enemy to be rooted out and destroyed without hesitation.

Haven Above All

Oblivion Mystara's concern as a heroic figure, however, is solely dedicated towards Haven, and Haven alone. The wider universe holds no value to him. Outworlders who find themselves on Haven are tolerated by him only due to the intervention of other Champions of Haven, many of whom are Outworlders themselves. Without this influence; Oblivion would actively seek methods to remove all Outworlders from Haven, believing that they inevitably bring destruction and suffering to the world.

If given the power to: Oblivion would destroy every realm, world, and star, across the whole of Creation until there was nothing left but Haven itself, to eternally ensure that no threat could ever again endanger it.

This philosophy was born from which he experienced throughout his short life, having been made witness to countless terrors unleashed upon Haven by the Divine Typhonians from the Thirteen Realms surrounding the Mavimyst and beyond. These invaders, driven by lust for Haven’s immense powers, continually sought to conquer or destroy it. History, both recorded and lost, tells of endless Outworlders arriving on Haven with intentions of subjugation or annihilation.

In Oblivion's judgment, allowing Outworlders free reign upon Haven is an unacceptable risk. While some Outworlders have sworn themselves to the defense of Haven, too many have acted, and continue to act, against it. Thus, he believes it is better to strike preemptively and eliminate any who might one day pose a threat.

Tyrant of His Own Creed

Despite his rigid and uncompromising ideals, Oblivion Mystara is deeply and openly hypocritical. While he professes an absolute belief in universal equality; that no being should be placed above or below another, he routinely seemingly violates this tenet through his actions. He imposes his will without hesitation upon those he judges to be evil, exercising domination and authority with the same iron hand he claims to abhor.

His self-proclaimed title of the "One True Heir" is a further compounding of this contradiction, as it inherently elevates and self-aggrandizes himself above all others, marking him as singular and sovereign in a way that no one else can claim.

This hypocrisy is not lost on Oblivion; he is acutely aware of the contradiction between his beliefs and his actions, but accepts it as a necessary failing within himself; a burden he alone must carry. His disgust toward being seen as a hero stems from this same conflict. If one were to call him a hero, it would imply that he stands above others, an elevation he finds more revolting than any offense in all of Creation. To Oblivion, such a label would be an imposition of hierarchy, a betrayal of the very principle for which he exists, and he would meet it with nothing but total and utter hatred.

Violent Pleasure of Justice

One of Oblivion’s greatest self-admitted hypocrisies lies in his mindset toward his own charge: his unyielding propensity for violence against those who violate the natural condition of the world is marked by a profound internal conflict he cannot ignore. Though he dedicates himself entirely to the preservation and protection of Haven’s continuance, he acknowledges that he often engages in acts of domination and destruction that mirror the very behaviors he claims to despise. This contradiction remains a source of deep self-awareness, one he neither excuses nor denies, but accepts as an inescapable flaw within himself.

The act of annihilating the world's enemies he'd confess to be one of the few sources of genuine pleasure left to him. Yet the sadistic satisfaction he derives from this violence stands in direct contradiction to his professed philosophy of equality and justice. He does not pretend otherwise. This blatant hypocrisy remains the greatest source of his self-loathing, a truth he cannot escape nor fully atone for. Though he openly recognizes the inconsistency within himself, he knows he is bound to it; an enduring flaw he both acknowledges and despises.
