The Un'oit (unwa) are a sapient species native to the void beyond the central Cosmoria galaxy. The species originated deep in the void near the dying star of Tegrelis. Its supernova drove them from their home world to settle the Nocturne system, within which most reside to this day. The Euphony Civilization formed as roving Un'oit tribes and pastoralists united under Compositrice Euphemia. Stretching from the frigid rogue planets beyond Florathel to deep into Aylathiya at Ynnud, the Un'oit became very widespread. Preferring the low gravity of dwarf planets, however, restricts them to space habitats and asteroid settlements. Currently, the Un'oit remain populous across Aylathiya, Nocturne, and around many rogue worlds. |

== Physical Description == |
Despite being vaguely both reptilian and octopodal in |
appearance to human eyes, the Un’oit are not cold-blooded. They were initially |
described by humans who saw them as, “…armored octopi with reptilian eyes |
and scales.” They can “walk” on their ten various armored tentacles as well |
as use them to swim. These tentacles are controlled by a large armored octopod-like |
head which holds five eyes which are capable of seeing not only visual range of |
colors but also are capable of seeing infrared. These eyes are spread across |
the head so the Un’oit can see in every direction. |
Their sister species, the Scargass—whose status as a different species is dubious—mostly reside in Florathel. Both have greatly influenced the other culturally; few species can meaningfully live with the Un'oit due to their large size. The Un'oit also prefer cold temperatures given their alkane-based makeup. |
The Un’oit are mostly carnivorous but can sustain themselves |
on plants if the need ever arises. They eat through a large circular mouth located |
underneath their head. This mouth is covered with around three rows of sharp |
incisor-like teeth with which the Un’oit can tear through some of the tougher |
prey on their planet. |

between their eyes. They use all four of their mouths to speak, as their native |
language has varying layers of subtly which can be missed if one of the mouths |
does not speak. |
The Un’oit are mostly carnivorous but can sustain themselves on plants if the need ever arises. A hard beak-like structure covers the mouth when not in use, creating a vacuum-tight seal. Within the mouth lies three rows of sharp incisor-like teeth with which the Un’oit can tear through even the toughest hides. On the sides of their head are two compound eyes, unusual for predators the universe over. |
The Un’oit have two biological sexes, male and female. Both |
are nearly indistinguishable save for the females having a slightly thicker |
skill which protects their heads. |
Their principal sense organ is another one uncommon for apex predators, sound. With poor vision and an even poorer sense of smell, they have evolved precise hearing both in their ears and their legs. They can form a reliable three-dimensional map of everything happening around them based on this. When in an airless environment, the map becomes two-dimensional. The Un'oit can survey the environment by lying flat and releasing infrasonic vibrations. |
The baseline Un’oit are capable of surviving underwater for an |
entire local day before needing to resurface for air. However, as of 200,000 |
CE, various genetic alterations have been made to allow for the Un’oit to be |
able to utilize gill-like attachments to be able to live within their planetary |
oceans as well as the oceans of their colony worlds. |

Female Un'oit are intelligent and males are not. Although, it is better to describe an Un'oit as a very large female surrounded by a host of smaller males which are genetically identical to them. When left without a mate, the Un'oit female produces drones. These drones are usually infertile, but a small number are and, if they reach a critical number, the female begins pursuing a mate. The fertile drones around an Un'oit are deeply unappealing as per natural selection, so they must find someone else. Courting entirely involves the females and the actual process usually involves both as well. |

so standard years but due to their rapid maturation rate children grow into |
fully mature adults within a local year. |
After hatching, the young Un'oit spend as much time as possible eating. When not eating or sleeping, they play, accumulating a rich knowledge of sound from a young age. After nearly a decade and a half, they enter a cocoon. The males only speed a few weeks undergoing metamorphosis; their existing brains are good enough and all they need to do is reach sexual maturity. Females undergo a rapid brain development phase, blasting through reasoning, planning, and judgment that other species slowly develop. After nearly a year, they emerge and face their next task, learning the complex language of this species. |

One interesting biological defense mechanism is that when in |
danger, an Un’oit can release an acidic liquid from some of its pores into an |
enemy’s face. This causes disorientation, paralysis and death in its victims |
depending on the amount released. This liquid could be mixed with a variety of |
plants which could be used for ink. |

The first Un’oit are thought to have started to evolve |

around the year 2000 CE in the deep dark blue oceans of Torlak’s largest ocean |

before eventually beginning to migrate to the largest continent to escape the |

larger prey that lived in the oceans at the time. When they were discovered by |

humans over two thousand years later, the Un’oit were on the verge of evolving |

true sapience so the Thulcandran Federation left the planet and various other possible |

colony worlds around the planet within a five hundred light year radius alone. |

In 75121 CE the Un’oit began to create the first society |

known as the Yav Civilization and was a monarchal equivalent, with the small |

Un'oit
Their sister species, the Scargass—whose status as a different species is dubious—mostly reside in Florathel. Both have greatly influenced the other culturally; few species can meaningfully live with the Un'oit due to their large size. The Un'oit also prefer cold temperatures given their alkane-based makeup.
Physical Description
The Un'oit have forty legs, two large mandibles, and two flayed tentacle-like appendages for grasping objects. With legs three meters long supporting four and a half tonnes of mass, the Un'oit require harnesses to survive on high gravity worlds. On low-gravity worlds, their great momentum makes them fearsome creatures. They sport a thick fur coat along their backs keeping radiation away and heat in.
They can form a reliable three-dimensional map of everything happening around them based on this. When in an airless environment, the map becomes two-dimensional. The Un'oit can survey the environment by lying flat and releasing infrasonic vibrations.
Reproduction and Life Cycle
Female Un'oit are intelligent and males are not. Although, it is better to describe an Un'oit as a very large female surrounded by a host of smaller males which are genetically identical to them. When left without a mate, the Un'oit female produces drones. These drones are usually infertile, but a small number are and, if they reach a critical number, the female begins pursuing a mate. The fertile drones around an Un'oit are deeply unappealing as per natural selection, so they must find someone else. Courting entirely involves the females and the actual process usually involves both as well.
Communication and Language
The Un'oit can create three distinct classes of noise, wind, string, and percussion. While immature Un'oit respond to the whistles of the twin tubes atop their heads, the adults respond to the entire range of sounds.
- Wind
- By expelling air across a reed-like organ, the air is split down a tube. The tube has various openings on it which can contract and open, changing pitch. Wind sounds convey simple commands.
- String
- Forty strings lie in parallel and four fibrous muscles rest perpendicular to them. Through contracting muscles within their throat, they can vibrate these stings at nearly any frequency they like. The result, a "quartet" of different styles of speaking. The strings convey the emotions behind a sentence, how the speaker feels about the words, how the speaker thinks the receiver feels about them, or how the originator of the information feels about them. It is a complex system that varies from culture to culture.
- Percussion
- Further strings exist beneath the mandibles underneath two slits. These slits can open to reveal them but usually remain shut in airless environments. Muscles can pluck these strings and can expand or contract the volume of their compartment to amplify or mute them. These strings convey the actual meaning of the words, similar to how text can convey words devoid of intonation.
