'One of the earliest records we have of the Voidsea refer to it as 'Outer Space'. </blockquote>Everything that exists is within the Voidsea.

Formerly known as Outer Space, the cosmos, the astrorealms, and many other names by many different cultures, both before and since the Valhallan Age, is the name given to the enormous expanse in which all of existence is located within, or at the very least, connected to.
The Voidsea, also known as Outer Space, and many other names, is one of the two overlapping realties which exist in the Valhallan Age. It's defining feature is the vast, uninhabitable distance between celestial bodies, requiring the use of advanced technology, biological engineering, or other such adaptations for many lifeforms to travel between worlds while in this reality. In contrast to it's counterpart, the Realmlands, this expanse is often compared to an endless ocean of nothing, hence the name, Voidsea.

The Voidsea contains numerous celestial bodies, from galaxies, to Void Islands, to the emergence of Gyre Clusters such as the [[Sky River]], following the Confluence and emergence of Taekni and the Broadwave.
As a matter of understanding, the Voidsea refers to the entire reality itself - This would include outer space in it's entirety, but also any realms, stars, other objects within it. To many however, there is a distinction to be made between the Voidsea, and the realms within it - Many would consider worlds like Earth to be part of the Realmlands, but this is purely a matter of semantics and definition. As Earth's geography is not matched, not reflected within the Relamlands, it is considered to be part of the Voidsea.

The defining feature of the Voidsea is the vast, uninhabitable distances between those celestial bodies. Some of these celestial bodies, usually Void Islands, occasionally evolve life, and produce sapient Kinde, capable of thinking, and understanding, the world around them. It also produces many more non-sapient Kinde.
The Voidsea is distinct from the Realmlands in a number of other ways - Technology that does not work in the Realmlands works within the Voidsea, for example. While a starship might work in the Voidsea, that exact same starship would not work in the Realmlands. Howeer, unlike the Realmlands, the distances needed to travel from world to world is massive, by factors of thousands, tens of thousands, or even millions, depending on the two realms in question.

The Voidsea holds a place of immense importance within many cultures, who wish to traverse it in order to explore the wider cosmos. To traverse the immense distances in the Voidsea, the use of advanced technology, biological engineering, or other such adaptations for many lifeforms is required. The Voidsea has also been known as a source of mythology, cosmology, sociology, and religious reverence. There are as many interpretations of the Voidsea as there are people to comprehend it.
The discovery of the Realmlands originally lead many across the galaxy to believe that the Voidsea was to become an almost irreverent frontier in terms of travel, conflict, and colonization. This was the exact opposite of what would end up becoming the case - Rather, the Voidsea became one of the two fronts within the Eternal War of Ideology, requiring just as much focus on on a strategic and military level. Battles are fought for any world within reach, and some Factions go to great lengths to hide their Prescence on some worlds, in order to hide technological developments, Taekni training centres, deployments, or launch-points for additional attacks.

A common tale told by many Kinde is that during the earliest days of Voidsea travel, the sheer size of it was often compared to an immense, empty ocean by those who traverse it. It is from this observation that the name ‘Voidsea’ came into being.

Despite those origins of its name, the Voidsea is not empty - At least, not anymore.

In the Valhallan Age, the Voidsea is teeming with life - The actions of those who have broken the bounds of their home-worlds have taken with them countless creatures, both intentionally and unintentionally. In time, very few systems would be totally devoid of life.

Everything that exists is within the Voidsea.

Formerly known as Outer Space, the cosmos, the astrorealms, and many other names by many different cultures, both before and since the Valhallan Age, is the name given to the enormous expanse in which all of existence is located within, or at the very least, connected to.

The Voidsea contains numerous celestial bodies, from galaxies, to Void Islands, to the emergence of Gyre Clusters such as the Sky River, following the Confluence and emergence of Taekni and the Broadwave.

Terminology

In previous eras, it has been known by many different names - Outer Space, the Black, the Ether, the Void, the Expanse, the Nothingness.

The change in terminology often comes down to a change in perception of what the Voidsea precisely is, and ones place within it. Most cultures that have not left their home Void Island typically refer to the Voidsea being something "out" of their world. As they develop Voidsea travel, they begin to think of their world as being "within" the Voidsea, and adopt a new name, better reflecting this revelation.

'Voidsea' typically refers to the vacuum between celestial bodies, but is also considered the entirety of reality itself. The term is, therefore, often used interchangeably with 'Universe', or 'Cosmic Tide', as these all refer to the same thing.

The Origins of Life in the Voidsea

In Ages past, much of the Voidsea was uninhabited.

Life could come about in many ways; environmental shifts creating perfect conditions for life, cosmic accidents, panspermia, and chemical convergence and evolution. There are many ways in which life began to first emerge in the Voidsea.

Usually, life emerged on Void Islands, such as Verdrasil, Iroshara, or Qo'Ap. Exceptions, however, are known to happen.

In addition, a majority of this life is confined to their various celestial bodies, the Voidships they construct for themselves, and many other types of inhabitable regions, some artificially constructed, others they discover on their own. Even this is not a hard rule, as life has evolved to survive even in the vacuum, without any additional assistance.

Though life existed in abundance, the distances between these sources of life were often both immense, and insurmountable. It could take longer than the entire lifespan of just one member of a sapient Kinde to travel just one light year - For some Kinde, that would not even take them to the borders of their own solar systems.

And it remained this way until Voidsea faring Kinde began to emerge.
