The Astrobiont (Xenobium spitzbergensis) is an extraterrestrial slime mold that causes yellow lung disease on humans. It was first contracted on August 16th, 1941 in the Arctic island of Spitsbergen, but was not scientifically described until British scientists analyzed it three months later. In the years that followed, it spread to much of Europe and North Africa, especially through the intercontinental movement of troops and supplies in World War II.
