The Astrobiont (Xenobium spitzbergensis) is an extraterrestrial slime mold that causes yellow lung disease on humans. It was first contracted on August 16th, 1941 in the island of Spitsbergen, but was not scientifically described until it the British analyzed it two months later. It came to infect much of Europe and North Africa through the movement of troops and supplies across countries in World War II.
