General Development

Medium

Yazera is a solitary red dwarf, and of course, a flare star. It is also a BY Draconis variable, which means that its surface is so pocked with starspots that its light noticeably varies with its rotation. It also has a low metallicity and very slow rotation, suggesting that it is rather old.

What makes Yazera interesting is the trio of planets orbiting it: Ekre, Saras, and Alerak, all of which are roughly the mass of Teralla. However, with orbital periods of 2, 3, and 4.5 days, none of them are cool enough for habitability, and Saras and Alerak are both hothouse Violis-like worlds.

The system is mostly populated by, again, automated mining installations as well as small research stations and a smattering of habitation stations.

Planetary Bodies in Detail

Ekre
Brief Description

Ekre is the innermost world of the Yazera system, and the only one which lacks an atmosphere. Ekre is the least populous world within the system, with only a couple million individuals on small mobile mining installations, and a factory assembling dyson swarm solar panels from the materials mined from its metal-rich surface. Due to its large size and density of strategic materials, Ekre is a very attractive location for mining conglomerates or just people who happen to own drills, although most of the mining systems lack the need for a pilot. Ekre lacks moons of any kind like its neighbors, due to the influence of Yazera.

Saras
Brief Description

Saras is the largest world in the Yazera System, and holds the thickest atmosphere of the bunch. Its atmosphere is much thicker than that of Violis, and only small exploration probes have ever reached its surface. Due to this, Saras is little more than a place to put stations around and keep them in a group, although there are many floating cities in the atmosphere to help with resource extraction.

Alerak
Brief Description

Alerak can be thought of as a less extreme version of its inner neighbor Saras. It is located just beyond Yazera's habitable zone, and the greenhouse effect of its thick atmosphere causes it to have tolerable temperatures on the surface. Alerak is thus the only place in the system where a Terallan can simply walk out onto the surface with nothing but a breathing mask and air supply. Due to this, Alerak is the most populous world in the Yazera System, with a population reaching into the tens of billions witihin its hill sphere.

There are proposals underway to terraform the planet, which would seem to require much less effort than for other planets in the Verdan Stellar Neighborhood.
