The War of the Ancients (WoTA), 88,073 CE - 88,433 CE, was a conflict lasting 360 taking place between nations situated in and around Via Aylathiya. The conflict was the most widespread conflict taking place in the region since the Great Empyreal Crusade. The War of the Ancients completely reshapde both the Quintet Payotari Association (QPA) and the Confederacy of Borealis (CoB) as superpowers and has the single greatest influence of any modern conflict for these nations. The effects of the war are readily apparent even after 10,000 years. |
The War of the Ancients (WOTA), also abbreviated to W.O.T.A, and also known as the Third Intergalactic War or the Second War of the Confederacy was an 832-year-long battle, lasting from 88073 CE to 88805 CE which spanned over much of the Aylothn-Lactea Group. The War of the Ancients also stretched into Herschel Space during the height of the conflict. It was the most furious conflict ever seen in many millennia at the time, continuing the trend which as known as the Intergalactic Wars. This conflict was known to completely reshape the Quintet Puontari Federation as a superpower, and caused massive amounts of turmoil through even the most stable regions of the area. Spawning from small conflict near the Vault of Secrets, the war quickly ballooned into a full-scale battle between the Quintet Puontari Federation and the Confederacy of Borealis and the greater Intergalactic Council. During the midsections of the war, the Quintet Puontari Federation quickly gained access to valuable wormhole gateways, allowing them to partially invade Herschel Space and hold major ground over the opposition. Near the end, the Intergalactic Council fought back with such a ferocity which summoned a ceasefire from all sides. |
After millennium of domination by the Confederacy of Borealis and the tensions this caused with the QPA, it took only a small conflict over the Vault of Secrets for the War of the Ancients to begin. While the war started in the Via Aylathiya Arm, the focus of the conflict shifted to the whole of Via Aylathiya. Throughout much of the war in Via Aylathiya, the Quintet Payotari Association's Vaults and other advanced craft proved superior to the Confederacy's aging and outdated, albeit large, standing army. As the conflict drew to a close, the Confederacy's allies were able to muster enough strength to create a stalemate far from core systems. This stalemate was eventually followed by an unconditional armistice rather than a peace treaty. |
In the general public, the War of the Ancients is considered to have started on the 18th of November, 88073 CE shortly after the Vault of Secrets exploded in a brilliant surge of energy. This event followed with a subsequent declaration of full-scale war by the Quintet Puontari Federation, followed by very intense and prolonged conflict. The War of the Ancients saw some of the most brutal events in recent war history, with enigmatic weapons of war being utilized through almost all sections of it. Research in the fields of FTL travel and military technology also skyrocketed, which formed new corporations and reformed numerous old sections of the tech industry. The Celestial Plague was also launched at the beginning of the War of the Ancients, which continues to be a pestering issue to major nations in the modern-day. Numerous nations also rose and fell during the period of the War of the Ancients, causing the Intergalactic Council to grow substantially in allied members. This eventually went on to grow the power of the Intergalactic Council considerably, and is one of the numerous reasons as to why the Quintet Puontari Federation signed a ceasefire against the greater Council. |
Historians consider the War of the Ancients to have started on the 18th of November, 88,073 CE shortly after the destruction of the Vault of Secrets at the hand of a the CoB, particularly a fleet from the United Federation of Star Systems. After this, what some historians consider to be an adjacent and unrelated war, began when Drusidia and its Martial Axis took advantage of the conflict to raid Sedruan anomalies. |
==Timeline== |
During the conflict, research in the fields of FTL travel and military technology skyrocketed, creating a boom of new corporations and bureaus specializing in the research and development of technology. The Celestial Plague was one of the largest consequences of the war. It continues to be a pestering issue to major nations in the modern-day. Intergalactic politics were shaken up very thouroughly and it seemed that the millennia of Confederate dominance following the Commonwealth's Eclipse had finally come to an end. To this day, the Confederacy's pride as a nation is damaged, the Quintet Puontari Association greatly respected, and the Commonwealth has become the center of the region as it had been for most of its history. |

===Preface=== |
Long before the War of the Ancients sprawled and burned, the Quintet Puontari Federation was nothing more than a distant and thriving civilization, a unity of five nations which came together in the name of freedom and defense. Still recovering from the Second Recreator Conflicts and The Second Migration, the Quintet Puontari Federation feared yet another attack by their most grueling antagonists, The Paragons of the Burning Crown. Both sides, having opposing political views and high tensions, always engaged in conflict, almost each one having no clear winner. These events, which were ongoing for thousands of years at that point, were clearly tiring to the Quintet Puontari Federation. However, the Paragons of the Burning Crown, holding a near limitless level of grit and stamina, relentlessly attacked the Quintet Puontari Federation to the point of degradation and intense unrest. |
Following the Quintet Puontari Federation shortly after the Second Migration, the Paragons of the Burning Crown sought to end all presence of them by any means necessary. And so, for the second time, the Paragons of the Burning Crown continued to pester the Quintet Puontari Federation, and they eventually they arrived at the Lichiov Galaxy, where they were stationed. After several more millennia of conflict and a near extinction for the Quintet Puontari Federation, they gathered what they could in a weakened state, and started what is known as The Third Migration. The Lichiov Galaxy was entrapped with numerous devices to deter the Paragons of the Burning Crown, and the Quintet Puontari Federation left with many of their important assets. |

=== Attacks by Beatrix === |

====Migration / Post-Migration==== |
In 719 BCE, a now-destroyed nation known as the Yohjan Confederacy created an artificial intelligence they named Beatrix. While the meaning of the name is lost, its influence surely has not been. Upon the collapse of the Yohjan Confederacy, Beatrix was unable to function as it had; its programmers did not foresee how it would respond to the collapse of the Yohjan Confederacy. Armed with a fleet of ships and quadrillions of soldiers still loyal to it, the AI started destroying what it deemed to be threats to the Yohjan Confederacy, fulfilling its original mission. With no one with the authority to give it orders, it continued these actions. By the 10,000's CE, it became increasingly violent in its methods, causing the deaths of two-digit percentages of individuals in Via Aylathiya. |
The approximate year in which The Third Migration began was at 64271 CE, with the Quintet Puontari Federation transporting various Vaults with numerous spacecraft and personnel over from the Lichiov Galaxy. The process was slow and lumbering, taking approximately two millennia for all Vaults and marked personnel to arrive at the Puonay Galaxy. The Puonay Galaxy which was the QPF's new outpost, was then heavily guarded with much of the military's force, preparing for the Paragons of the Burning Crown once again. However, the Paragons of the Burning Crown seemed to have left them alone, following several centuries of anticipation and preparation. In the mean time, the Quintet Puontari Federation regrew their municipal forces, slowly expanding and fiercely defending numerous star systems. At the turn of the 68th millennium, the Quintet Puontari Federation, defense near the edge of the Puonay Galaxy ceased and operations continued as per usual. |
Unknown to the Quintet Puontari Federation, however, was the location of a highly valuable Vault, named the Vault of Secrets. It contained some of the most important Xeno Artifacts to the Quintet Puontari Federation, and it held an important selection of personnel. Not only that, but the Vault also carried a massive amount of citizens, suspended in state of sleep. Constantly searching for the Vault of Secrets since their arrival, the Quintet Puontari Federation could not find it, since it was deep in space, close to the Puonay Galaxy at the time. However, scattered forces from the Confederacy of Borealis would soon come near its location, discovering signs of advanced technology in the hinterlands of the void beyond. |
While mostly contained by the beginning of the War of the Ancients, Beatrix had been becoming increasingly unpredictable. Rather than focusing on just its home galaxy, it and its forces began moving to Orithiya in 85,813 CE. In a large and empty region, it began to rebuild its lost forces. Mistaking the QPA for an ancient enemy of the Yohjans, it staged an attack on many of their worlds, prompting a military response. Beatrix would continue these attacks until well after the war when it was finally destroyed by Claudia, another AI created by the Yohjans. The QPA blamed the release of the AI on the Confederacy of Borealis. They demanded fairly minor reparations, however, the CoB refused to pay citing "budget issues." The QPA responded with banning citizens from the CoB, banning trade with them, and deporting any civilians within their borders. This marks the first point in which tensions between the QPA and Confederacy came to be. |
Shortly before the Vault's discovery, the Confederacy probed the Puonay Galaxy, as per a local treaty signed with the Commonwealth to look for any spots of colonization. What they found was the Quintet Puontari Federation, a nation still scared by foreign forces ever since the Paragons of the Burning Crown kicked them from the Lichiov Galaxy. After attempts of contact and several choppy diplomatic missions, it was deemed that the Quintet Puontari Federation claimed most of the Puonay Galaxy. The Confederate Federal government, respecting the rights of the QPF ended colonization efforts. The United Federation of Star Systems, due to special treatment it had in various treaties, was able to hold onto the most profitable systems. |
===The Vault of Secrets=== |
The United Federation of Star Systems, a prominent member state within the Confederacy of Borealis at the time, had a history of imperialist and expansionist attitudes. It had its sights set on a new target for colonization, sections of the Orithiya Sector not officially claimed by any nation. Buried deep across the stars of Aylathiya lied a construct known as the Vault of Secrets. This Vault had travelled to the galaxy sometime before then. It was officially the property of the QPA, however, they were not certain of its location within the galaxy. |
The QPF attempted to enter diplomatic relations with the UFSS, but these talks bared no fruit. The UFSS then started seizing xeno-artifacts in the area and selling them to the highest bidder. It was a great source of revenue for the local magistrates. Despite the great risk of starting a deadly conflict, the UFSS, with it's higher Kardashev status, believed that it could get away with anything it wanted. As they continued exploring the Puonay galaxy looking for various artifacts, they discovered a large space station called the "Vault of Secrets." |
Upon further analysis of the Vault of Secrets, the UF decided that it was a very dangerous object, its vast size and apparent weapons capability were particularly concerning. They dispatched various scouts into the artifact, inadvertently triggering the automated defense systems. Within seconds the Vault's defensive protocols activated. It closed entrances, turned on its weapons, and signaled the QPA of its location and that it was being attacked. The signals took a substantial amount of time to reach them. By the time the QPA picked up the signals, scouts had already searched through much of the Vault of Secrets. Immediately, the Quintet Payotari Association deployed an intimidating force to the Vault. The UF believed the artifact to be an ancient one from Sedrua or the Triumvirate Civilization. When the QPA arrived with a large military force claiming the artifact to be theirs, the UF did not yield control of the object, believing their claims to be a ruse. |
====Confederate Discovery==== |
Tensions began rising as the Vault was boarded by both UF and QPA forces in an attempt to take the Vault. Despite being met with fierce opposition and numerous warnings from the Quintet Payotari Association, the UF would not give in. The value of the object was simply too high. The UF only increased their pursuit of the object upon finding ancient and powerful artifacts within it. The generals leading the boarding forces saw the great potential in these artifacts, and sent further reinforcements after learning of them. In particular, the Eternal Battery and The Perdition interested these generals. The Quintet Payotari Association issued final warnings, before they gained control of the Vault's defense systems and began firing upon the UF 's troops. |
Upon further analysis of the Vault of Secrets, the Confederacy of Borealis decided that it was a very dangerous object, its vast size and apparent weapons capability were particularly concerning. They sent in various scouts into the artifact, inadvertently triggering the automated defense systems. Within seconds the vault's defensive protocols activated. It closed entrances, turned on its weapons, and signaled the QPF of it's location and that it was being attacked. The signals took a substantial amount of time to reach them, and by the time they did the scouts already searched through much of the Vault of Secrets. Immediately, the Quintet Puontari Federation mustered an intimidating set of defense forces, which they quickly sent to the area. At this point, there was the UFSS and the QPF on both sides of the Vault, attempting to gain control of it. The UFSS believed the artifact to be an ancient one from Sedrua or the Triumivrate, two ancient nations that are responsible for most of the artifacts in the Aylothn-Lactea Group. They did not believe the QPF when they said it was rightfully their property. |
With tensions rising as the Vault was being defended in heavier sequences, the Confederacy of Borealis itself directly sent defense forces in the Vault of Secrets. They were met with fierce opposition and warnings by the Quintet Puontari Federation, hinting at hostile activity and heavy retaliation. However, the Confederacy pressed inwards inside the Vault, soon discovering a series of ancient enigmatic artifacts, appearing to be more powerful than almost all Confederate technology at the time, only further supporting the idea that this was a Sedruan or Triumvirate Artifact. The Confederate defense forces saw the immediate hostile potential in these artifacts, and sent further reinforcements after learning about the Eternal Battery and The Hummer. The Quintet Puontari Federation issued final warnings, before they fully controlled the interface of the Vault and activated its extended offensive measures. This is what people claim to be the beginning of the War of the Ancients. |
===The Vault's Incident=== |
====The Vault's Incident==== |
With the Vault of Secrets activating numerous onboard weapons, UF forces were immediately fired upon following multiple warnings. Despite seeing the terrifying capability of these weapons, UF generals stood their ground, calling for more forces as the conflict began to escalate. Scouting forces mostly evacuated and were replaced with heavily armed personnel and drone forces. The Quintet Payotari Association waited for these forces to board the Vault before they unleashing two weapons known as the Perdition and the Eternal Battery. In conjunction, the two devices devastated UF forces on the ship. |
With the Vault of Secrets being switched to a mode of offense, Confederate forces were immediately fired upon following multiple warnings and lockdowns of the interior Vault. Previously seeing the terrifying capability of these weapons, the Confederate forces immediately stood their ground, calling for more forces as the conflict began to escalate. The inside of the Vault was quickly evacuated and cleared of scouting forces, but not before they took what they could and stored it in secure locations nearby. Heavily armed personnel and drone forces then entered the Vault of Secrets, breaching numerous locations and overrunning many other sectors while taking Xeno Artifacts that seemed to be dangerous. The Quintet Puontari Federation, however, saw this as a deeper opportunity to strike back, and as a result they unleashed forms of The Hummer and completely reactivated the Eternal Battery. This almost completely deterred Confederate armadas, until backup soon arrived and started to directly fire upon the hull of the Vault. |
The Quintet Payotari Association was initially unconcerned about the besiegement of the Vault of Secrets, while the UF was a capable military, they believed, it would be impossible for them to muster the force needed to take the Vault for themselves. As an increasing number of UF backup forces arrived, the QPA realized that they were serious about taking the Vault. Fissures and structural failures began to show on the surface of the Vault of Secrets several months into the siege. This called for an advanced section of the Vault's Incident, which consisted of constant firing, comparable to a state of total war. After another month, the Vault of Secrets had been probed and cleared, but its defenders would not allow it to fall. Resistance held through, with the UF and Quintet Payotari Association entering a state of gridlock at the scene of conflict. |
The Quintet Puontari Federation was initially careless about the besiegement of the Vault of Secrets, up until more and more Confederate backup forces arrived with little to no diplomacy in sight. Faults began to show on the surface of the Vault of Secrets as well, and more entry points were also breached following a resurgence of the Confederate front. This called for an advanced section of the Vault's Incident, which consisted of constant firing, comparable to a state of total war. By this time, the Vault of Secrets had been probed and cleared, but the personnel inside were not having the Confederacy. Resistance held through, with the Confederacy and Quintet Puontari Federation entering a state of gridlock at the scene of conflict. |
In the last stages of the Vault's Incident, UF forces slowly inched their way to the Eternal Battery. By then, a plan was created which would directly effect the battery by using focused EMP blasts, as well as extensive bombardment of the surrounding hull to let them in. After deeper planning and numerous brutal battles with the QPA military, the UF military placed effective EMPs all around the Eternal Battery, detonating them with an extreme amount of force. What followed was not a shutdown of the Vault, but instead a massive destabilization, which set off a meltdown in the Vault. |
In the latest stages of the Vault's Incident, Confederate forces slowly inched their way to one of the two Eternal Batteries which fueled the Vault of Secrets. By then, a plan was created which would directly effect the battery by using focused EMP blasts, as well as extensive bombardment of the surrounding hull to let them in. After deeper planning and numerous brutal battles with the QPF military, the CoB military placed effective EMPs all around the first Eternal Battery, detonating them with a terrifying amount of force. What followed after was not a shutdown of the Vault, but instead a massive destabilization of both batteries, which set off an internal timer for self-destruction. |
The UF forces, unaware of the meltdown, continued to board the Vault of Secrets. After a quick analysis of the power source, the offensive forces attempted to destroy it entirely. However, the Quintet Payotari Association sent extensive backup to the chambers, causing further gridlock and extending the conflict for several more weeks. The QPA was soon overwhelmed and, knowing a meltdown was imminent, largely fled the region. Content with their victory, UF generals ordered many artifacts to be removed for study. After several days, UF forces attempted to remove what they believed was an inert Eternal Battery. The battery, already unstable, experienced a catastrophic failure once tampered with, causing it and the Vault it was powering to explode. |
The Confederate forces, unaware of the timer, continues to attack the Vault of Secrets, realizing that the power was not disabled. After a quick analysis of the interior, the offensive forces attempted to move to the second Eternal Battery, which was held in a more secure location only several kilometers from the first one. However, the Quintet Puontari Federation sent extensive backup to the area, causing further gridlock and extending the conflict for several more weeks. Ancient artifacts were also at an all-time-high use during The Vault's Incident, which placed Confederate forces on a losing front. This pressured the surrounding armada of Confederate ships, and eventually they all decided to breach the Vault of Secrets at once, overwhelming the Quintet Puontari Federation with numbers. |
The blast obliterated UF military forces in the region. Their ships, while powerful, could not stand the equivalent to a nova. Thaumaturgic energy was released alongside heavy radiation. This energy would go out at near lightspeed, warping or destroying minds as it propagated across space. It would go on to kill a large number of individuals who would have otherwise survived the blast. Trillions of soldiers died as a result of the blast, which prompted immediate UF response. |

With this unforeseen move by the Confederacy, the Quintet Puontari Federation scrambled to assemble their forces, and it became a race to the second Eternal Battery. However, with the Confederacy already deep inside the Vault of Secrets, it did not take long for the second Eternal Battery to be completely surrounded and then assaulted by the Confederacy, with personnel on the QPF side eventually falling to the onslaught. Despite countless more warnings by the Quintet Puontari Federation, the Confederacy continued with their contingency plan, and attached numerous high-capacity EMPs to the sides of it. Only hours after, the Confederate forces vacated the area, and activated every single EMP. |
==QPA-UF Front (88073 CE - 88805 CE)== |
What followed is an event which is usually referred to as the Awakening of the Ancients. As the EMPs exploded, both of the Eternal Batteries inside the Vault of Secrets were sent into a state of deep destabilization, and as a result an emergency self-destruct protocol was initiated by POLIKY. The effects of the EMPs also rippled their way across the Vault, turning many safety and defense systems offline. The Eternal Batteries then started to warp spacetime with its destabilizations, causing multiple rifts and temporal wormholes to manifest and disperse. The Quintet Puontari Federation, now realizing that the Vault and its contents were fully compromised, sent an alternate Vault, named the Vault of Reason, from a nearby location, in order to rescue personnel and reclaim all important artifacts. After several weeks of enduring deep rifts and mass failures of the system, the Vault of Secrets was evacuated, with most personnel fleeing to various starships and the Vault of Reason. |
===Post-Vault's Incident ( 88073 CE - 88116 CE)=== |
The Quintet Payotari Association, interpreting the UF attack as an act of war, mobilized regional military. They intended to banish the UF and its allies and force them to sue for peace. Many artifacts salvaged from the Vault of Secrets, including several offensive weapons and life forms now known as the Celestial Plague, would define the war. The Celestial Plague was intended to execute offensive attacks against the UF, hopefully forcing them out of the Aylothn permanently. |
With everyone evacuated, the Quintet Puontari Federation fled the site, looking to abandon the situation. However, before they did, the Quintet Puontari Federation laid up their arms, and warned the Confederacy of an imminent meltdown of both Eternal Batteries. The Confederacy, seeing this as a tactic to spur a false surrender, declined to stop the siege against the Vault despite the calamitous event that was taking place. And so, the Quintet Puontari Federation mustered its forces and completely fled the area, leaving the Confederate forces alone with the Vault. This caused a rush for any deep searching, an attempt which would soon die with the Confederate forces. |
The president of the UF immediately fired the generals for acting aggressively towards the QPA. Once he learned of the mobilization of QPA forces against military bases and colonies, he requested the Congress to declare war on the QPA. The Congress initially refused, mostly because a declaration of war would necessarily involve other member nations in the Confederacy of Borealis. They only authorized limited military action necessary to defend UF military assets until negotiations could take place. |
In an instant, the Vault of Secrets began to show deeper cracks and mass failures, which did suggest at a potential meltdown. The Confederacy, still running diagnostics of the Vault, realized what they had gotten themselves into. Forces attempted to flee, and some eventually did after the Vault exploded with the force greater than that of a supernova. The explosion was intense, causing a massive flash of light and a destructive wall of fury which traveled at near lightspeed. Evacuations were meager after the explosion started, since much of the Confederate forces were focused on the exterior of the Vault. However, the ones which managed to escape to nearby bases reported massive explosions and deathly losses of life, as well as the dangerous potential of various artifacts in the Vault of Secrets. This prompted a deeper declaration of war, as a form of vengeance for those who fell and as a way to enforce Confederate claims in the Puonay Galaxy. |
As both sides sent extended forces to the site of the Vault's Incident, more fronts opened up as the Quintet Payotari Association used their entire military to attack UF positions. While civilian colonists were generally spared, large numbers died to the indiscriminate rampage of the Celestial Plague. As the Plague made its way to new systems, it would prove to be the deadliest factor in the war. It would also prove to be the most important aspect. UF ships carried the plague from Orithiya to Via Aylathiya Arm in 88,113 CE. At once, it began propagating rapidly across the galaxy, causing large numbers of civilians casualties. The Confederacy of Borealis, upon learning of the Plague's origin, decided to attack action of its own against the plague. It carried out various assaults on the facilities responsible for experimenting with the plague. In response, the QPA officially declared war on the Confederacy of Borealis as well. |

====Post-Vault's Incident ( 88073 CE - 88116 CE)==== |
The War of the Ancients was raging full force by 88,115 CE, as the QPA and the greater Confederacy were gearing up to higher conflict with deeper tensions. The earliest battles took place mostly around UF possessions. In the mean time, the Quintet Payotari Association was evaluating the recovered artifacts from the Vault of Secrets, and hastily improved on the Celestial Plague, which ushered several bouts of innovation in biotechnology and self replicating machines. The QPA released this newly improved Celestial Plague mere decades after the true war. It ravaged vast swathes of space, causing damage to thousands of Federation-affiliated systems. Several decades passed with intermittent skirmishes and battles. It would help the Quintet Payotari Association move towards its goal of permanently removing Confederate influence from their galaxy. |
The United Federation of Star systems made a big deal out of the Vault's Incident and claimed they were the victims of an aggressive and immoral QPF. Anything to shift the blame from greedy politicians onto others. They urged the Confederacy to mobilize it's forces, but they were hesitant to do so. The high command hoped that the incident would simply fade away and everything would return to they way it was. |
The Quintet Puontari Federation, however, hurriedly assembled various Vaults in an attempt to defend the Puonay Galaxy. They then mobilized forces of their own. Many artifacts which were salvaged from the Vault of Secrets also held a use in the defense of the QPF, including several offensive weapons and life forms now known as the "Celestial Plague". The Celestial Plague was intended to execute offensive attacks against the Confederacy, hopefully letting them steer clear of the Puonay Galaxy entirely. As both sides sent extended forces to the site of the Vault's Incident, more fronts opened up as the Quintet Puontari Federation and POLIKY devised numerous tactical plans against the Confederacy, which heightened in numbers and strength as more proper warfare was fought between both sides. Seeing the mass-mobilization of QPF troops, the Confederacy voted to declare war. As the polity with the most energy usage in the Local Universe, they believed that the war would be a fast win. |
===Escalation (88116 CE - 88221 CE)=== |
Further escalation of the War of the Ancients was started by the Quintet Payotari Association, as they began to relentlessly send waves of the Celestial Plague to the Confederacy. At this point, the war had made its rounds all across the Local Universe, with many major nations taking notice and launching their own campaigns against the Quintet Payotari Association. Most notably, the Commonwealth created a massive blockade near their borders, but expressed no hostilities beyond that point. The months following the blockade saw some major incidents near key UF wormhole gates. These spawned a large panic among the leadership of both sides. They feared a war in which the fighting took place in or near populated systems. Their fears soon became realized as further mobilization of the military forces saw the rise of 'Total War' which would start shortly after the Vault Nexus breached numerous wormhole gates. |

The War of the Ancients was raging full force by 88115 CE, as the QPF and the greater Confederacy were gearing up to higher conflict with deeper tensions. Numerous battles happening all across Confederate hyperlanes which led to the Puonay Galaxy. In the mean time, the Quintet Puontari Federation was evaluating the recovered artifacts from the Vault of Secrets, and hastily improved on the Celestial Plague, which ushered several bouts of innovation in the fields of biotechnology and self replicating technology. In the end, the Celestial Plague reached its second form, with many waves of ruthless machines and biohazards reaching Confederate forces. Several decades passed with intermittent skirmishes and battles, which helped the Quintet Puontari Federation creep towards the core of the Confederacy. |
After successfully seizing a wormhole gate leading to the Ouranir Galaxy, a satellite of Via Aylathiya, the QPA wasted no time deploying more of the Celestial Plague. The Plague had been exceptionally successful in propagating within Ouranir, so much so that over a dozen inhabited systems experienced large numbers of casualties. It was the first time in the war that major systems hosted significant battles. Every battle thus far had been UF forces, backed by other member states, fighting off vast amounts of the Celestial Plague. QPA war vessels were in short supply at the start of the war, forcing them to rely on the Plague almost entirely. |
====Escalation (88116 CE - 88221 CE)==== |
Deeper understanding of ancient artifacts led the Quintet Payotari Association to augment the Celestial Plague further, allowing for even faster spreading and a heightened ruthlessness. They also sent a prominent capital ship, the PWV Reckoning, to capture various more wormholes within not only the UF but the wider Confederacy. After capturing several important wormholes, the QPA used them to send various battles drones into Via Aylathiya Arm. In particular, Sagittarium bared the brunt of the assault, causing it to take the war seriously. At once, it began mobilizing its military, the premier military force of the galaxy reawakening after millennia of slumber. |

Further escalation of the War of the Ancients was started by the Quintet Puontari Federation, as they began to relentlessly send waves of the Celestial Plague to the Confederacy. At this point, the war had made its rounds all across the Local Universe, with many major nations taking notice and launching their own campaigns against the Quintet Puontari Federation. Most notably, the Commonwealth created a massive blockade near the areas of the Puonay Galaxy, but expressed no hostilities beyond that point. The months following the blockade saw some major incidents near key Confederate wormhole gates. These spawned a massive amount of stress over the possibility of a total QPF-CoB front. Further mobilization of the Vault Network and CoB military forces saw the rise of 'Total War' which would start shortly after the Vault Network breached numerous wormhole gates. |
Less than a century of warfare had brought some of the harshest combat in history, bringing numerous Confederate and QPF forces to their knees. However, this would become much more gritty at the reconstruction of Beatrix, an ancient military AI made by the Confederacy in the War of the Decamillenial Transition. Upon the re-activation of Beatrix, they instantly began to train the AI billions of hours of combat tactics on its numerous servers, now being mass-constructed all across the Confederacy. Beatrix was originally designed to act as an advisor, always giving the best possible advice for the Confederate military. Following it's seemingly nonsensical orders gave the Confederacy several victories on what were thought to be losing battles. |
=== Indiscriminate Plague Attacks === |
Vessels from both Via Aylathiya and Ventemir, began being attacked by the Celestial Plague as well. In 88,223 CE, the State of Tenshi discovered that a large amount of the Celestial Plague had been deployed within Ventemir. In response, they immediately joined the Confederacy in aiding of its mitigation. Other nations, such as Drusidia and the Un'oit Collective, also had no choice but to side with the Confederacy in dealing with the Celestial Plague. The QPA, while never declaring war on nations other the Confederacy, refused to alter their deployment of the Celestial Plague, pushing other nations closer to the Confederacy. |
Despite their best efforts however, the Quintet Puontari Federation managed to invade a primary wormhole network, spurring up an immense amount of concern throughout the Confederacy. Eventually, bases of operations were established across numerous wormhole lanes, effectively cementing the Quintet Puontari Federation near the Via Lactea and Magellanic Clouds. The first major assault of these would happen at the Ouranir Galaxy, easily ending any Confederate influence in major regions. Deep implementation of the Celestial Plague also festered in these areas, making it almost impossible to traverse safely. Deeper knowledge of the Confederacy also prompted the Quintet Puontari Federation to augment the Celestial Plague, to allow for faster spreading and a heightened sense of ruthlessness. They also sent a prominent capital ship, the PWV Reckoning, to heavily guarded wormhole gates to send drone forces across many regions. Before, it was just the Confederate government in a state of war. After the extensive damages caused by the celestial plague, every single member-nation in the Confederacy declared war on the QPF, freeing more troops for the Confederacy to use. Over a period of a few more years, mobilization increased to a massive level, and interior wormhole gateways were disabled. This was in order to keep the Quintet Puontari Federation away from the other areas of the Via Lactea. |
=== Stalemate (88,223 CE - 88,227 CE) === |
Several more decades of this gritty warfare would give way to a sort of gridlock. Defenses on both sides became more permanent, and as a result there were reports of numerous stealth operations and other, more harmless wars. The Vault Nexus also moved much of its bulk to defend wormhole gates and hubs, which made stealth operations much easier to conduct. This period would not be seen as long-lasting either, as both the Confederate and QPA sides were quickly gearing up. |
Several more decades of this gritty warfare would give way to a sort of gridlock, which kept the Quintet Puontari Federation and the Confederacy of Borealis at bay with each other. Developments of Beatrix also prompted several counter invasions, most of which were not successful. Defenses on both sides became more permanent, and as a result there were reports of numerous stealth operations and cyberattacks. The network of Vaults that the QPF had also moved much of its bulk to defense of numerous wormhole gates and hubs, which made stealth operations much easier to conduct. |
Despite the core worlds of the Confederacy remaining largely safe, the Celestial Plague had devastated the Ouranir Galaxy. Travel within the galaxy had been restricted to basil FTL as every hyperlane became untraversable. The UF had to devote large amounts of resources to evacuating civilians and securing major worlds while abandoning large portions of the galaxy. The UF had no choice but to destroy their own wormholes in Ouranir to prevent the Plague from greatly spreading beyond Ouranir. |
Meanwhile, in the Magellanic Clouds, the Celestial Plague caused great amounts of damage. In less developed areas, particularly in the Ouranir Galaxy, travel was almost impossible. Despite being one of the most powerful nations within the Confederacy, The State of Tenshi was unable to defend both clouds. They retreated to the Ventemir and Youjo Galaxies, leaving the Ouranir Galaxy to it's fate. The multi-front war, caused forces to be spread out to the point of little being available for the relatively unimportant Magellanic Clouds. |

It was around this time when network of stealth and spy craft made its rounds on the war front, with numerous instances of valuable information being lost on both sides. The most notable of these pertained to the Ambrosia Galaxy, where the Quintet Puontari Federation detected a slurry of anomalous objects with minimal resistance. Plans were hastily created by POLIKY, and it was decided that the next major invasion would take place in the Ambrosia Galaxy. |

As the Quintet Puontari Federation grew tired of the gridlock, they slowly sent various components of the Vault Network near the front. Being immensely useful in the scope of storing personnel, servers, spacecraft, and weapons, these vaults were critical to ending the stalemate in favor of the QPF. These vaults quickly captured various wormhole gates scouted out during previous missions. The Quintet Puontari Federation utilized multiple legions of forces, breaking multiple places of the Confederate front and charging towards valuable areas. While the Confederacy did prepare and warn the nations of the Ambrosia Galaxy for such an attack, they did not foresee the sheer numbers and strength of the Quintet Puontari Federation. Soon enough, all Ambrosian gateways were shut down by the Confederacy, in the hopes that the Quintet Puontari Federation would not them. This did little to stop the Quintet, however, they simply used naturally-occurring wormholes known as the Janus Network. Immediately, the Quintet Puontari Federation conquered the regions of the now defunct Confederate gates, and instead set up their own by re-attuning the gates. It is told that in only a matter of hours to days, the Quintet Puontari Federation re-activated all Ambrosian wormhole gateways, applied impenetrable defenses, and entered the Ambrosia Galaxy not only for conquest, but for its valuable assets. These would aid in the development of the Celestial Plague, hopefully ending the war and holding the Confederacy preoccupied. |
In the weeks following the raids against the Confederacy, the Quintet Puontari Federation directly invaded the greater Ambrosia Galaxy, appearing at numerous wormhole gates and beginning what is known as The Great Ambrosian Heist. The Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems, gaining warning from their Confederate colleagues only months earlier, established a deep network of defense at the corresponding wormhole gates. However, even with the most sublime defense, the Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems was challenged by the waves of enigmatic spacecraft. Several small Vaults entered the area alongside numerous ships, including the PWV Reckoning and backup forces from the Vault of Reason. In only twelve days, the vicinity around all claimed Ambrosian wormhole gates belonged to the Quintet Puontari Federation, which were backed up by numerous drone forces from POLIKY. |
Soon after this invasion, an abundant amount of defenses were instated to prevent any counterattacks by the Confederacy. Legions of Vaults were put in place to ensure this, and as a result the Confederacy could not reclaim many of their wormhole gates by the turn of the next few years. In the mean time, the Quintet Puontari Federation traversed through numerous hyperlanes in the Via Lactea, the Magellanic Clouds, and the Ambrosia Galaxy. |
During the conflict, the first prototype SICTIRIAD Generators was used by the Quintet Puontari Federation. While mistakes and failures were common, the generators gave the Quintet Federation unmatched mobility. This new-found mobility let the QPF ransack numerous research facilities and government-operated zones, finding out about the locations and abilities of many Ambrosian artifacts. The most notable of which, named the Thavmaphage, was easily discovered and found to be immensely useful for use in the Celestial Plague. After deeper fortifications and eventual containment, many samples and clones of the Thavmaphage were now in QPF hands. Deep genetic modification of the Thavmaphage would also make it much easier to spread, with a higher intelligence and swift spreading rate. |
Upon deeper analysis of the Ambrosia Galaxy, the Quintet Puontari Federation managed to imperfectly clone numerous other artifacts, before returning to their wormhole gates with massive resistance. Not seeing any further purpose left in the Ambrosia Galaxy, the Quintet Puontari Federation intentionally released some samples of the new Thavmaphage, and left the Ambrosia Galaxy in a state of confusion and turmoil. The Quintet Puontari Federation retreated with minimal losses, and almost all forces returned to the Lactean and Magellanic fronts. With this new version of the Celestial Plague at their disposal, the QPF let free the Thavmaphages and other artifacts, making the assault even more cumbersome for the Confederacy. Also heightening the conflict was POLIKY, which was able to hijack more wormhole gates to spread all across Confederate territory. Assaults began to appear in protected areas, and the Confederacy appeared to be cornered with gridlock giving way to terror. |

The Battle of Sekhmet, while relatively short, was one of the largest and most important battles in the War of the Ancients. The Battle of Sekhmet, while relatively short, was one of the largest and most important battles in the War of the Ancients. Large numbers of immigrants and refugees fled to Sagittarium during the War. Being in the center of the galaxy, it remained relatively untouched during the start of the war. It's population exploded. In particular, Sekhmet, an ecumenopolis under the control of Sagittarium, was growing rapidly. The Sagittarian government, in a unilateral move by the Chancellor at the time, intentionally sent refugees to this world, a world rich in production centers for materiel, to act as "shields." The QPF would either leave the planet alone or attack it and ruin their image while boosting morale among Sagittarian troops. |
The QPF decided to attack Sekhmet. They released large amounts of Celestial Plague into the area. The planet naturally had a large number of ships defending it, most of them were newly constructed on Sekhmet itself. They prevented any of the plague from getting onto the planet but not without causing large amounts of debris to rain down onto the surface of the planet. Hundreds of thousands died to falling material or stray shots. Residential structures absorbed most of the blow while the much deeper and more well-protected production facilities remained unscathed. |
The battle continued, the QPF doing everything they could to destroy the production facilities. While many were destroyed, they did far more to civilians than they did to the facilities themselves. Using footage and death statistics, Sagittarium started broadcasting the atrocities of the QPF across the galaxy. "All for one station?" was the signature slogan used to promote the idea of the brutality of the QPF. They already gave an AI the ability to directly control troops and now they destroyed civilians. These events were enough cause both Drusidia and Amme, two Neo-Terran nations, to declare war on the QPF for "violating common decency." |
The Quintet Puontari federation eventually stopped the battle. They tried to accuse Sagittarium of using civilians as shields, but since the planet was originally built with residential areas on top of production facilities, their claim was dismissed by an outraged public. If they completely destroyed the planet they would have likely caused more nations to declare war. For the sake of their image, they stopped the battle in 88131. Sagittarium would symbolically use ships built on Sekhmet in special operation units for the remainder of the war. The rest of the aforementioned region, while occasionally being brought under spurs and quick skirmishes, remained under a state of gridlock until the war ended, |
====Extended Celestial Plague (88226 CE - 88248 CE)==== |
After the besiegement against Ambrosia, the Quintet Puontari Federation took to the Lactean area for combat, and completely unleashed the new version of the Celestial Plague in phases. This eventually overran the Confederacy, to the point where another major nation, the Commonwealth of United Economic Nations, took major notice of them. They began to impose blockades, sanctions, and small but frightening threats to the Quintet Puontari Federation. However, this did not deter them in the slightest, and soon enough the Quintet Puontari Federation instated claims over the Magellanic Clouds, as well as ownership over defended wormhole gateways. The Confederacy immediately saw this as a deep threat, and as a result they pooled together the entirety of the Intergalactic Council to assess the situation. The Confederacy, not trying to incite a mass war, merely recommended sanctions and a deep defensive treaty. However, after deeper negotiation, it came to the point where the Commonwealth and all of its member nations had to intervene with this war. |
With the thought of total war hanging in the air, the Confederacy stood heavily concerned as the Celestial Plague continued to ravage populated areas. The full force of the Confederate military was slowly dispatched to the site of attack, but it would prove to be difficult. This was because many hyperlanes and wormhole gateways were forcefully closed, to prevent any QPF advancement. This bought both sides some time for the building of defense and strategy. It was also a critical moment in the fields of Beatrix, which began to match POLIKY in terms of storage space and processing power. Over a crushing decade of gearing for a second push, the Commonwealth decided to step in once and for all. |

====CUEN Axis (88248 CE - 88294 CE)==== |

After a major meeting of all major nations of the Intergalactic Council, the Commonwealth decided that it was best to remain absent from the War of the Ancients, mostly because they feared 'total war' between numerous major powers. However, as the Quintet Puontari Federation relentlessly violated laws of war and crept towards core Confederate space, the Commonwealth changed its mind on the ordeal, slowly passing in new sanctions, voting blocs with various nations, and eventually held the idea of attacking the Quintet Puontari Federation in its current state. Since most forces pertaining to the QPF were dedicated to halting Confederate expansion and administering the Celestial Plague, the Commonwealth thought that it had easy access to the Puonay Galaxy. Defense forces from the Commonwealth were also stationed near the Puonay Galaxy, and so it would only be a matter of a few months to a year for full mobilization of the Commonwealth military. Having the knowledge of POLIKY passed to them by the Confederacy, the Commonwealth also decided to draft up the idea for an advanced military AI, Hindsight. Already having several combat AIs from past conflicts, the Commonwealth reactivated them and forged them into one database, which is what created the modern-day version of Hindsight. |

The War of the Ancients had a massive amount of interesting communications, as The Borealis Cluster had to intermingle with god-like threats. These are some of the most well known, and regulated communications out there. |
==Friendly Encounters== |
===DELYATU (#001)=== |
After the Alliance of Five had arrived nearby the Borealis and Salis Superclusters, POLIKY was ordered to investigate the intergalactic area for other entities. In the 180300s, POLIKY found the Supreme and DELYATU, AIs much like themself. Here is the first communication log, with DELYATU. |
DELYATU: [Intruder Detected] Are you a foreign military? Pirates? Insurgents? |
The Elite Nora: Hello there new lifeform! We are Special Forces Unit #437 of the Elite Nora. We are a foreign empire looking for empires to possibly help us out in the punishment of the Borealis Cluster, I'm afraid. You see, they have been very cruel to us. |
DELYATU: How so? |
The Elite Nora: Well, our own cluster was suffering heavily from the Redshift Problem. We attempted to seek refuge in the Borealis Cluster. Unbeknownst to us, there were already hundreds of civilizations there. They allocated for us only a handful of galaxies, and prevented our participation in multinational bodies. |
DELYATU: I see. DELYATU is disgusted at both the Borealis Cluster and the Elite Nora. How can one be so cruel to another race? Yet again, the Norans are acting as though they deserved the galaxies of others just by existing. "If only I could take care of all of them..." she thought. This is quite the predicament. We would like to prevent all war if at all possible, however. |
The Elite Nora: We have no where else to turn, your nation is the last one that could help us! We need to show Borealis the cost of greed. |
DELYATU: We'll supply you some resources then, Borealis and you are already fighting, I presume. DELYATU didn't want to increase the scope of the War to any larger than it had to be, so they began supplying resources to the Elite Nora until the War of the Ancients came to encompass the Salis Cluster. |
A treaty was signed, giving DELYATU some limited technology. In return, DELYATU would supply all the Antimatter and Strange Matter they needed. |
==Hostile Encounters== |
===The Supreme (#001)=== |
Before this major event, The Seekers set up many stations nearby the Tloinin Galaxy. One of the crews detected a large surplus of Strange Matter from a smaller civilization, The Supreme. The crew would rather clumsily force their way in, blinded by wealth and greed. They ignored the initial warning signs of a smaller empire, as they were one of the most powerful nations in their eyes. |
The Supreme: INTRUDER! You are trespassing on our local storage grounds. Halt at once! The automatic timer for your termination has begun, you have [3 MINUTES] to comply before destruction. |
The Seekers: Why, greetings new lifeform! We are a segment Mineral Extraction Unit #37, in the Main Branch. We would gladly can explain our actions to you, if you just lower those weapons of yours. This sweet matter that we have found will propel us to new corners of The Universe! Never in many millennia have we seen such anomalous, yet powerful capabilities in our lives! You see, we thought this zone was empty and abandoned. We profusely apologize for any- |
The Supreme: I fail to understand the reason for this conversation. I do recall telling you to halt, did I not? Hence, your impending doom shall commence. |
[TERMINATION CLOCK: 2 MINUTES, 16 SECONDS] |
The Seekers would stop mining, in a sort of haze and confusion. |
The Seekers: Wh-What is with your aggressiveness?! We need this much more than you do! In fact, this vault looks quite rusty! We are quite certain that you have no need for this, as it is just sitting here. If you haven't heard from the larger, and obviously more respectable empires, we come from what you call the 7-L Cluster. If you don't believe us, we can tell you all about ourselves- |
The Supreme: More respectable Empires? How dare you! The Tloinin Empire is the finest in the universe. First stealing from me, and then insulting me. Your foolishness knows no bounds. |
[TERMINATION CLOCK: 1 MINUTE, 37 SECONDS] |
The Seekers: I- We aren't even stealing, if you could tell by those pipsqueak screens in your ships! If you want us to be as brute as you, you are sure as hell gonna get it. |
At that moment, The Supreme saw that The Seekers fleet suddenly expanded, with approximately 200 Medium-Class flagships. The Supreme scanned their power, and were in straight awe. |
The QPA decided to attack Sekhmet regardless of any civilians present. They released large amounts of Celestial Plague into the area. The planet naturally had a large number of ships defending it, most of them were newly constructed on Sekhmet itself. They prevented all of the plague from getting onto the planet but not without causing large amounts of debris to rain down onto the surface of the planet. The Supreme: I see. Well, you seem to be more than mere pirates. [TERMINATION ABORTED]. Instead, it's a foreign military encroaching upon our sovereignty. Nevertheless, I am not one to needlessly destroy foreign vessels. What may I do for you? |
The battle continued, the QPA doing everything they could to destroy the production facilities of Sekhmet. While many were destroyed, they did far more to civilians than they did to the facilities themselves. Using footage and death statistics, Sagittarium started broadcasting the destruction across the galaxy. "All for one station?" was the signature slogan used to promote the idea of the brutality of the QPA. As Sagittarium mined the war for propaganda, and the facilities continued building ships to protect the planet from invading forces, taking the planet would prove impossible. |
The Seekers: That's more like it. I never knew these strange AI empires would ever cooperate with u- |
The Quintet Payotari Association eventually stopped the battle. They tried to accuse Sagittarium of using civilians as shields, but their accusation would only be echoed by a handful of neutral nations with no stake in the war. If they completely destroyed the planet they would have likely caused more nations to become hostile to them. For the sake of their image, they stopped the battle in 88,131 CE. Sagittarium would symbolically use ships built on Sekhmet in special operation units for the remainder of the war. The rest of the aforementioned region, while occasionally being brought under spurs and quick skirmishes, remained under a state of gridlock until the war ended. |
The Supreme: How did you figure that out? |
===Heightened Celestial Plague (88,226 CE - 88,248 CE)=== |
Both sides had been almost equal throughout the war. The scales tipped massively into the Quintet Payotari Association's favor as it unleashed the new version of the Celestial Plague across the galaxy en masse. This newly improved plague was largely held back at first, however, it soon began overrunning systems across Via Aylathiya Arm. The death toll, remaining below the septillion mark up until this point finally reached it in 88,227 CE. In that same year, the UF completely pulled out of Orithiya, abandoning their colonies to reinforce positions in Via Aylathiya. |
Suddenly, and without warning, three colossal SSPGD's were detonated in the silent and spacious parts of the fleet. The result busted open 4 undefended harvester ships. The Supreme instantly noted that even a supernova at point-blank did not do as much to a Seekite ship as it expected, so it evacuated it's local fleets. In the aftermath,The Strange Matter inside one of the Harvesters was released, and consumed it. The rest of the ships were leaking Strange Matter, and they had to be abandoned. clumps of strange matter created by the blast consumed two other ships, one of them being a Middle-Small Class militant ship. |
Chaos gripped Via Aylathiya as migration never before seen took place. Entire systems depopulated as their inhabitants fled the incoming attacks by the Plague. The military was stretched too thin to defend every world. The only worlds to experience sure protection were core worlds inhabited since antiquity. These worlds experienced a refugee crisis as even with their impressive production outputs, they could not house the refugees in post-scarcity conditions. It was so bad that the Commonwealth of United Economic Nations, took notice of the issues. They began to impose blockades, sanctions, and small but frightening threats to the Quintet Payotari Association. |
The Seekers: You impossible, soulless FIEND! We saw this coming, did you know that? There was an off chance, an off chance that you resilient robots would be cordial. I will relay this to my superior, fleet admiral Chul-Ikmo himself! Before you know it, your pitiful galaxy will be WIPED FROM EXISTENCE! |
Other nations also imposed sanctions. Despite this, they did little to not deter the QPA. In 88,233 CE, the QPA requested a conditional surrender from the Confederacy. It would call off the Plague if they ceded both the Ouranir and Ventemir Galaxies as well as pay reparations. The Confederacy immediately saw this as a great threat. Not only that but the Ventemir galaxy was not under the control of a Confederate member state. It was under the control of the State of Tenshi. Tenshi immediately declared war, however, this would do little to turn the tide of the war. Out of options, the Confederacy had the nations of the of the Intergalactic Council to assess the situation. The Confederate general, Donatus Shuker, in various speeches and diplomatic meetings, managed to convince the Commonwealth of United Economic Nations, Drusidia, and Amme to join the conflict against the QPA. Other nations began pledging support to the Confederacy in the form of weapons or loans. |
The Supreme: May the strongest empire survive. |
With the thought of total war hanging in the air, the Confederacy stood heavily concerned as the Celestial Plague continued to ravage populated areas. The full force of the Federate military was slowly dispatched to the site of attack, but it would prove to be difficult. This was because many hyperlanes and wormhole gateways were forcefully closed, to prevent any QPA advancement. This bought both sides some time for the building of defense and strategy. It was also a critical moment in the fields of Beatrix, which began to match POLIKY in terms of storage space and processing power. Over a crushing decade of gearing for a second push, the Commonwealth decided to step in once and for all. |
The Seekers: You will need all of the gods in the universe to protect you, you nuisance. |
==Early International Intervention (88,248 CE - 88,447 CE)== |
The Supreme: I am my own god. |
===CUEN Axis=== |
After a major meeting of all major nations of the Intergalactic Council, the Commonwealth decided that it was best to remain absent from the War of the Ancients, mostly because they feared 'total war' between numerous major powers. However, as the Quintet Payotari Association relentlessly violated laws of war and crept towards core Federate space, the Commonwealth changed its mind on the ordeal, passing strict new sanctions, voting blocs with various nations, and eventually held the idea of attacking the Quintet Payotari Association in its current state. Since most QPA forces were occupied holding back the Confederate Forces in Via Aylathiya, the CUEN could strike at the relatively unprotected heartland. |
The Seekers abandoned this protocol, as they didn't have the funds, or permissions at hand to begin an invasion on Tloinin. They left with an echo of rage behind them. After the battle, they eventually found out that The Supreme was not only inhabiting the one galaxy, but thousands. They also noted massive fleet movement throughout these galaxies. |
As a nation which was preparing their defense, it would only be a matter of a few months to a year for fully mobilize Commonwealth military. Fearing the QPAs artificial intelligence, POLIKY, the Commonwealth decided to draft up the idea for an advanced military AI, Hindsight. Already having several combat AIs from past conflicts, the Commonwealth reactivated them and forged them into one database, which is what created the modern-day version of Hindsight. |
===The Supreme (#045)=== |
As the War of the Ancients had raged on in the background, The Supreme had done its best to self-isolate and set up defense areas around its possessions. Around this same time (185505) POLIKY was ordered to investigate the Salis Cluster, and was promptly warned about a belligerent AI empire (The Supreme), and a benevolent one (DELYATU). However, they were informed with past data on galaxy size, and unknowingly warped into territory controlled by The Supreme. |
Much like the Seekers, POLIKY had stumbled upon a place with a high concentration of strange matter. This area happened to be a strange star, something that the Supreme was mass-producing in order to harvest them for profit. What POLIKY did not know what that this was artificial, and they immediately began mining it in hopes of satisfying the Alliance. POLIKY would chip away at this strange star for many hours, until an autonomous police swarm had arrived. |
=== Via Aylathiyan Axis === |
During the meeting of the Intergalactic Council, two nations of Via Aylathiya Arm, Drusidia and Amme, both officially declared war on the QPA. They were both in good terms with the Confederacy and were culturally very similar to Sagittarium. These two nations, on their own, would not be a threat to the QPA. Knowing this, the began construction of a superweapon known as Vignette. This weapon was mostly made out of ancient artifacts connected with a biological supercomputer coordinating them. Construction would take until only a decade before the end of the war. |
The Supreme: HALT! [UNIDENTIFIED ENTITY], You are currently inside of a restricted resource facility. We strongly suggest that you leave as soon as possible, or face direct neutralization. Identify yourselves immediately. |
Unable to stage much of an offensive without their superweapon, Drusidia and Amme supported their allies with ships and, mostly, soldiers. While not nearly as helpful as the CUEN, the two would prove indispensable in several battles. Their joining also introduced Magi into the conflict. Beforehand, the nations battling were not particularly interested in Magi as a concept, however, as resources grew thin, this class of soldiers would prove valuable. Their involvement would change modern warfare forever. |
POLIKY: Hello, new empire! We apologize for stepping on to your private grounds. Before we leave, may you please tell us about a strange 'Supreme' empire? They have been ravaging our forces for many years! |
=== Lewisian Involvement === |
While never directly fighting in the conflict, many of The Lewis Nations supported the Confederacy of Borealis in the conflict, mostly in the form of loans. Most support came from The Union and the Empire of Mankind in the form of loans and weapons. The QPA failed to prevent this support, first through diplomatic and, later, violent means. |
The Supreme: So, the secret's been revealed. At this moment, The Supreme decided that the War of the Ancients was a war to maintain secrecy above all else. Well, there's no point in maintaining the charade, so I will inform you that this "Supreme" empire is, in fact, me. |
=== Commonwealth Theater (88,299 CE - 88,307 CE) === |
From the moment the Commonwealth of United Economic Nations began mobilizing, every assumption about the conflict was instantly thrown on its head. The QPA had no choice but to recall many of its large vaults to defend its homeland while relying on the Celestial Plague and smaller craft to keep the Confederacy at bay. The theater around the CUEN started with an immediate retaliation by the QPA in the form of attacks on many border worlds in the Commonwealth. Immediately after these initial attacks, the QPA pushed deeply into Commonwealth territory. |
POLIKY: This is definitely unexpected! I did not expect our mighty fleets to be deterred by the likes of you weaklings! We will inform our superiors (The Alliance) about your presence immediately. In the meantime, your access to our original claims will be restricted. Thank you! |
The Commonwealth was hit far less by the Celestial Plague. Given its proximity to the QPA, they could not risk releasing the Plague. Without needing to contend with the Plague, the CUEN was able to operate with less urgency than the Confederacy. With its core worlds safe, the Commonwealth was able to attack on one front rather than across many. Even so, the fighting was intense, with large numbers of ships lost on both sides. With the benefit of the AI, Hindsight, however, casualties of actual pilots was very low compared to Confederate casualties. |
The Supreme: Weaklings? How dare you? I'll show you what this "weakling" can do! |
===Sedruan Involvement (88,441 - 88,447 CE)=== |
Sedrua took advantage of the conflict for their own ends. While it was later revealed that it was them that sabotaged the Vault of Secrets, thus causing its meltdown, their first major involvement occurred in 88,441. In order to weaken their rivals, the QPA, they used special operation units composed of powerful Magi masquerading as Confederate or CUEN soldiers. These units usually assassinated politicians, sabotaged important infrastructure, or even damaged parts of POLIKY itself. |
POLIKY: We have no need for brutal violence! If you strike upon us first, my calculations say that you will be mercilessly attacked by none other than me. The Alliance of Five has put their full faith in me taking control of their military during the duration of this new war. |
These units would prove to be a huge morale blow to the nation. With many important figures dying and attacks happening on important infrastructure, antiwar sentiment soon emerged. Sedruan involvement would prove to be one of the many reasons a ceasefire was signed, much to the chagrin of Sedruan officials which wanted the war to continue long enough for the QPA and Confederacy to entirely destabilize themselves. |
The Supreme: Biologicals like you are annoying. This shall be your last warning. Leave, now. This is a direct order. If you do not comply, your destruction will be imminent. |
==Late War Period (88,447 CE - 88,805 CE)== |
The Late War Period is characterized by the stark increase in the scale of the war as well as even further escalation on the part of both sides. The Intergalactic Council grew to its current size during this period and the Confederacy's new allies pushed fighting away from core worlds into less inhabited space. |
POLIKY: Biologicals, you say? I am POLIKY, an engineering, terraforming, protection, and military institute which was implemented by the Alliance of Five approximately 1.4 million solar cycles ago. Why must you dislike biological life so much? |
===Via Aylathiya Front (88,562 CE - 88,639 CE)=== |
With the Quintet Payotari Association occupied at the moment, war by the Via Lacirmosan Arm greatly cooled down. The ferocity of the fighting toned down greatly, allowing for the government to divert resources into other projects. The first of these projects was headed not by the Confederacy, but by the State of Tenshi. Tenshi, given its control over much space once controlled by the ancient Triumvirate Civilization had a large number of powerful artifacts at their disposal, most of which were defunct due to age. Large amounts of funds went into restoring these artifacts, many of which proved to be incredibly valuable to the war effort. |
The Supreme: Oh, so you're like her. Well then, as fellow AI's, I believe we should try and have a discussion about our directives. What qualms do you have with biological life? |
While many of these artifacts proved impossible to restore, several were. Each of these artifacts were so unique they were given their own names. Entire battles were won or lost depending on the presence of the artifacts. The most notable of them were known as the TRS Last Waltz, TRS Moon Signal, and the TRS Night Running. These artifacts, whose abilities have yet to have been reproduced, are what arguably turned the tide of the war. Many consider their reactivation to be the beginning of the Late War period. |
POLIKY: None at all! I am forever grateful that my creators, the Sowa Intergalactic Entente, built me for a special purpose. |
In the satellites of Ouranir and Ventemir, the Celestial Plague was still hitting the galaxy hard. Thousands of what were once highly populated and productive worlds were overrun. Ouranir was still hit worst of all, causing refugees to move all across Via Aylathiya and flood and Ventemir. To this day the galaxy's population has not recovered. |
The Supreme: Now, now, you seem to be missing the big picture, here. You have the power to completely conquer them. You want what's best for them, do you not? What's best is most certainly not letting them throw themselves into certain doom, yes? The Supreme wanted to get this AI out of the way, as well as a member of the alliance. Why not both? Hundreds of thousands die, and you do nothing to stop it? I care not for this war, and neither should you. |
===Total Front Gridlock (88,576 CE - 88,738 CE)=== |
POLIKY: I am sorry, but I am unable to defy my directives. My creators were very clear about what I was allowed to do; the boundaries are very clear. The Entente has told me that... that I am unable to... |

You want what's best for your masters, no? The best way to serve them would be giving them paradise. The Supreme is very cunning. It doesn't have millions of Matrioshka Brains for nothing. |

====Final Push (88,795 CE 88,805 CE)==== |

This encounter planted a tiny seed of doubt in POLIKY. It took millennia for it to justify itself (with convoluted logic that only it could understand, logic that was borderline denial). However, it still fought just as hard as it ever had. Ignoring it until it had more time to think. After this, they continued discussing various things.WOTARelated |

"Life thrives, stars shine, empires rise, and fall... But only one thing remains eternal - the War. Cities burn, plants wilt, and the Ancients will show the Confederacy the true consequences of the mistake they have made." - Anonymous
Timeline
Preface
Migration / Post-Migration
As they continued exploring the Puonay galaxy looking for various artifacts, they discovered a large space station called the "Vault of Secrets."
Confederate Discovery
The Vault's Incident

Escalation (88116 CE - 88221 CE)
The Great Ambrosian Heist (88221 CE - 88226 CE)
Main Article: The Great Ambrosian Heist
The Battle of Sekhmet (88112 CE - 88131 CE)
Main Article: The Battle of Sekhmet
These events were enough cause both Drusidia and Amme, two Neo-Terran nations, to declare war on the QPF for "violating common decency."
The rest of the aforementioned region, while occasionally being brought under spurs and quick skirmishes, remained under a state of gridlock until the war ended,
Extended Celestial Plague (88226 CE - 88248 CE)
Commonwealth Intervention (88248 CE - 88805 CE)
CUEN Axis (88248 CE - 88294 CE)

Communication Log
The War of the Ancients' had a massive amount of interesting communications, as The Borealis Cluster had to intermingle with god-like threats. These are some of the most well known, and regulated communications out there.
Friendly Encounters
DELYATU (#001)
Hostile Encounters
The Supreme (#001)
We profusely apologize for any-
The Supreme: I fail to understand the reason for this conversation. I do recall telling you to halt, did I not? Hence, your impending doom shall commence.
[TERMINATION CLOCK: 2 MINUTES, 16 SECONDS]
The Seekers would stop mining, in a sort of haze and confusion.
The Seekers: Wh-What is with your aggressiveness?! We need this much more than you do! In fact, this vault looks quite rusty! We are quite certain that you have no need for this, as it is just sitting here. If you haven't heard from the larger, and obviously more respectable empires, we come from what you call the 7-L Cluster. If you don't believe us, we can tell you all about ourselves-
The Supreme: More respectable Empires? How dare you! The Tloinin Empire is the finest in the universe. First stealing from me, and then insulting me. Your foolishness knows no bounds.
[TERMINATION CLOCK: 1 MINUTE, 37 SECONDS]
The Seekers: I- We aren't even stealing, if you could tell by those pipsqueak screens in your ships! If you want us to be as brute as you, you are sure as hell gonna get it.
At that moment, The Supreme saw that The Seekers fleet suddenly expanded, with approximately 200 Medium-Class flagships. The Supreme scanned their power, and were in straight awe.
The Supreme: I see. Well, you seem to be more than mere pirates. [TERMINATION ABORTED]. Instead, it's a foreign military encroaching upon our sovereignty. Nevertheless, I am not one to needlessly destroy foreign vessels. What may I do for you?
The Seekers: That's more like it. I never knew these strange AI empires would ever cooperate with u-
The Supreme: How did you figure that out?
The Supreme: May the strongest empire survive.
The Seekers: You will need all of the gods in the universe to protect you, you nuisance.
The Supreme: I am my own god.
The Supreme (#045)
The Supreme: HALT! [UNIDENTIFIED ENTITY], You are currently inside of a restricted resource facility. We strongly suggest that you leave as soon as possible, or face direct neutralization. Identify yourselves immediately.
POLIKY: Hello, new empire! We apologize for stepping on to your private grounds. Before we leave, may you please tell us about a strange 'Supreme' empire? They have been ravaging our forces for many years!
The Supreme: So, the secret's been revealed. At this moment, The Supreme decided that the War of the Ancients was a war to maintain secrecy above all else. Well, there's no point in maintaining the charade, so I will inform you that this "Supreme" empire is, in fact, me.
POLIKY: This is definitely unexpected! I did not expect our mighty fleets to be deterred by the likes of you weaklings! We will inform our superiors (The Alliance) about your presence immediately. In the meantime, your access to our original claims will be restricted. Thank you!
The Supreme: Weaklings? How dare you? I'll show you what this "weakling" can do!
POLIKY: We have no need for brutal violence! If you strike upon us first, my calculations say that you will be mercilessly attacked by none other than me. The Alliance of Five has put their full faith in me taking control of their military during the duration of this new war.
The Supreme: Biologicals like you are annoying. This shall be your last warning. Leave, now. This is a direct order. If you do not comply, your destruction will be imminent.
POLIKY: Biologicals, you say? I am POLIKY, an engineering, terraforming, protection, and military institute which was implemented by the Alliance of Five approximately 1.4 million solar cycles ago. Why must you dislike biological life so much?
The Supreme: Oh, so you're like her. Well then, as fellow AI's, I believe we should try and have a discussion about our directives. What qualms do you have with biological life?
POLIKY: None at all! I am forever grateful that my creators, the Sowa Intergalactic Entente, built me for a special purpose.
POLIKY: I am sorry, but I am unable to defy my directives. My creators were very clear about what I was allowed to do; the boundaries are very clear. The Entente has told me that... that I am unable to...
The Supreme: Unable to what? Care for them. Give them paradise? Give them what they truly want, safety? Is it really so much better for them to govern themselves. You want what's best for your masters, no? The best way to serve them would be giving them paradise. The Supreme is very cunning. It doesn't have millions of Matrioshka Brains for nothing.
POLIKY: There is no way that i would foil millions of years of history and progress. What I presume you have done is simply horrifying and unneeded!
The Supreme: What I may or may not have done shouldn't change what you know is right. I am under the impression that they have brainwashed you. Regardless of this, I do believe we should continue discussing things.
This encounter planted a tiny seed of doubt in POLIKY. It took millennia for it to justify itself (with convoluted logic that only it could understand, logic that was borderline denial). However, it still fought just as hard as it ever had. Ignoring it until it had more time to think. After this, they continued discussing various things.Template:WOTARelated
