Narsekil, also known as Shadar, is a red bright giant in the antispinward Telkron Expanse and is the central star of the Narsekil System. This puts it at the center of the Krask Hegemony, a fairly minor nation which controls much of the Telkron Expanse. The star is nearing the end of its life, and will soon collapse into a white dwarf after shedding an enormous amount of mass into a planetary nebula.
Properties
Narsekil is a red bright giant star, holding a spectral class of M5II, notably cooler than stars like Verda, Starrial, and Vothan. It is nearing the end of its life, the hotter helium fusion within the core triggering an enormous increase in the star's size. This has caused a corresponding increase in luminosity, with Narsekil brightening to ~800 L☉.
Like all giant stars, Narsekil rotates very slowly, taking 102 days to complete one rotation. The star is experiencing an impressive outflow of stellar mass loss, creating a sparse envelope of ionized gas extending to ~930 AU, well beyond the planetary system. Narsekil is a semiregular variable, with complex changes in brightness occurring over varying periods of a few weeks to many years. The most notable and cyclical variations take place over timescales of 80-140 days and 1000-3000 days, with the strongest at 128.
Narsekil resides on the asymptotic giant branch, rather than the more comparatively tranquil red giant branch. The star has a luminosity of over <placeholder> solar luminosities, helpfully making it visible to the entire Ervo Sector with a prominent reddish-orange glow.
The atmosphere of Narsekil is enriched with Barium. This would normally be easily explained by the presence of a more evolved companion transferring material, but no such companion exists. Early Terallan astronomers thought they found one, but it was actually a Luminous Blue Variable over 7,000 light-years farther away.
Neighborhood
Beyond the outer belt, Narsekil's mass outflow has created a cavity of ionized gas roughly 900 AU in radius surrounding the system. This cavity is beginning to develop into a nebula as Narsekil slowly dies and prepares to shed its outer layers. Beyond that, the Telkron Expanse contains a number of other neighboring and co-moving stars, including Melos and Welia, Zavar, Alsanter, and the ternary Aliga System.
