Hwrett [ɹɛt], [ʷɹɛt] is a medium-sized star in Zalanthium home to the Tannjens. Hwrett is known for its comparatively large asteroid belts. Each of its three planets has an asteroid belt between them, the largest of which outmasses all but the gas giant of Therone. Crimwol is the system's the most populous planet, but for most of history, its large belts have held most of the population.

Hwrett numbered amongst the first stars in Zalanthium to host civilization. Tech Egealta was an expansive empire before becoming a vassal of the Lareas Alliance. With most of its population already turned into machines, the Nachleben, Teach Egealta planned to outlive its invaders rather than fight them. After nearly two hundred thousand years, the still-biological remnants of Tech Egealta had already formed a civilization. The resulting conflict, the ancient Nachleben awakening to take back their home and the Tannjens defending what they had built, crippled the system. Hwrett came under the control of the Second Aeternal Society before two thousand years of self rule, after which the Triumvirate Civilization took control. The Triumvirate obliterated Crimwol's surface only a decade after working so hard to conquer it properly.

Since Crimwol's depopulation (falling to under one million), the rest of the system opened up to settlement. Warlords had long lived in Hwrett's asteroid belt, but the sudden influx of migrants to the outer system destabilized their grip on power. Unable to escape from warfare anywhere in their home system, billions pooled their funds and fled in every direction they could.

Since that disaster three millennia ago, the Hwrett system had been slowly recovering. Billions of Tannjens have resettled their homeworld in waves, whether as conquerors, economic migrants, or refugees. Currently, Crimwol and its moon Starrock have three fourths of the population of the Hwrett system.

Worlds

Alchemilla

Alchemilla is a scorched world with little in the way of an atmosphere. In the past, it was called Aleruo, but as the Triumvirate conquered the system, it began being called by its current name. With zero population for most of history, the planet only recently gained colonies. Mostly a mining world, Alchemilla is too hot to economically settle. For those endeavoring to exploit Alchemilla's rich resources, staying out of the punishing sunlight is crucial. While some have opted to settle deep polar craters in perpetual darkness, most reside deep underground. A small portion opts to exploit the choice ores available on the surface by constantly moving. Alchemilla's day lasts nearly as long as its orbit, so always remaining on the night side is a viable option.

Crimwol

Crimwol was the only world orbiting Hwrett to harbor life for as long as half a billion years. Due to Hwrett's very large asteroid belts, Crimwol experienced regular collisions until only five hundred million years ago. These collisions caused Crimwol's microbes to spread to hundreds of minor planets. Although Hwrett's light makes life in the Inner Belt between Crimwol and Alchemilla impossible, the various belts and groups farther out are perfect habitats for low-metabolism microbes. For the bacteria lucky enough to land on icy nutrient-rich comets, they have adapted to space nearly perfectly. Given enough time, the life in Hwrett's belts may evolve into proper complex Spaceborne Life.

Crimwol itself is over eighty percent water, leaving most of the planet comparatively dead. Hugging its continents is a highly biodiverse ecosystem and the nearly the entire population of Crimwol. The native Tannjens species have fled and returned to their homeworld three different times. Currently, the population is rising as Crimwol's government asserts near total control of Hwrett, including its largest planet of Therone.

Therone

Therone is the largest planet orbiting Hwrett and is three hundred times more massive than Alchemilla, the next largest planet. Its three largest moons—Syett, Ringrock, and Briarice—are each more massive than Crimwol. Although no life has propagated to these frigid moons, the Tannjens have lived around them for thousands of years. Today only a few billion call Therone's moons home. The recent conquest of Therone was a great success for Crimwol and cemented near-total control of Hwrett. All that remains are the scattered dwarf worlds in Hwrett's belts. However, the inhabitants of these places outnumber the Theronians twenty to one. Crimwol has a long path ahead of it.
