Geography
As an ocean world, Illnium's geography—or oceanography—consists of a sole global ocean of fresh water. However, several traits of this water stands in contrast in comparison to most water worlds in known space, predominantly being the water's purity, with every drop making its global ocean coming in at a staggering 100% purity rating. Illnium's waters lack any dissolved substances, containments, nutrients or minerals, making it unpalatable to most species. Additionally, the extreme purity of the water has given it unique refractive properties, causing light to bend and scatter in unusual ways, creating breathtaking optical phenomena such as shifting auroras and prismatic bands visible even beneath the ocean's surface.

Beyond the water's purity, the whole of the moon's physical make up is composed solely of liquid water, even at depths where liquids would normally form into a solidified state due to immense pressures. Illnium's anomalous pressure resistance is attributed to its unique molecular configuration, likely influenced by Remnants of primordial magic, which prevents the natural crystallization of water even at depths where pressures reach tens of thousands of standard atmospheric levels, resulting in an unbroken expanse of liquid water from surface to core.

By far the single most notable property of Illnium, the Fragments of Remembrance stand alone in their like across the whole of modern Ambrosia. As such, the Fragments have been long sought after by many throughout the eons, from singular individuals to entire species—both before and after the departure of Magic in the Galaxy.

As such, the Fragments have been long sought after by many throughout the eons, from singular individuals to entire species — both before and after the departure of Magic in the Galaxy.
Even when Magic was a common fixture of galactic society during the Inomeni reign of Dyad Rule, as the Fragments were pure condensation of the mythical presence of the Amaranth Veil, they were regarded as sacred relics, imbued with unparalleled power, and were often used in the creation of legendary artifacts, structures, and entities. As a result, the Isariel—one of the most powerful races to ever exist, who at their peak ruled over half of known Ambrosia—harnessed the Fragments to amplify and augment their already immense magical potency, with most every piece of Isariel technology being accented with Fragments of Remembrance.

The Fragments themselves however are rather impotent; easily able to be shattered into dust, and with it, their immense power made too diluted to be extracted at the slightest physical disturbance, save the natural oscillation from the waters in which they sit. In fact; it is utterly impossible for any non-magically inclined entity—organic or mechanical—to ever make physical contact with the Fragments. And with Magic no longer extant in an active state within the Galaxy, harnessing the inherent power of the Fragments has proven to be inaccessible to most who tried following the extinction of the Inomeni powers. Only those who contain within them an inherent Remnant spark of the former Fragments of Creation may extract the Fragments of Remembrance to use for their own purposes, and as those are few and far between, very few have managed this.

Notably amongst those who have used the Fragments of Remembrance for their own purposes would be two Supreme rulers of the formerly galactically dominating Etymology, Phenomoth and Mystara, both of whom accomplishing this feat by being themselves entities which exist in a state as if they were extant in primordial Ambrosia. The former of the two being the more notable, as he would harness them to create he very last Inomeni to arise within Ambrosia, the Vade, which he would attempt to use to mentally subjugate all of Ambrosia to his will; a machination undone by the latter Mystara.

Following the end of Dyad Rule and the departure of active Magic from Ambrosia, the Fragments of Remembrance lost their original Amaranth hue, becoming dulled and translucent as a direct result of their severance from the Amaranth Veil. Once radiant and resonant with Conception's primeval energy, their decolorization marks the cessation of their magical activity, leaving them visually inert though still mythically potent. While structurally unchanged, they no longer interact with ambient forces, and only in rare cases, typically involving Remnant-bearing entities, do they briefly emit their former glow.

Following the end of Dyad Rule, Illnium and its parent Tarovania remained untouched and uninhabited until the evolution of the Chariotan of Tarovania, though even they only used the moon for resource extraction as it proved too unwieldly to colonize, forgoing it in favor of other worlds of the system which held much more promise. Though the most notable member of the race, Gladio-Mankano, used the world's native Fragments of Remembrance to power his many great creations, the world itself lacked much attention from the aforementioned species.

In the modern era, the only permanent inhabitants of Illnium are members of the Typhonian Order hierarchy, who have established specialized research stations on floating platforms and submersible bases, dedicated to unraveling the mysteries and intricate properties of the Fragments of Remembrance that thrive uniquely in Illnium’s anomalous waters. Despite their seeming isolation, these small populations contained within these research stations are one of the most predominant ventures of the Typhonian Order as, while they have remained largely unsuccessful in harnessing the Fragments, the pursuit itself is a goal the Order is immensely interested in achieving.

History
Isariel Ascendancy
Following the conclusion of the Dawn Epoch and the subsequent expansion of the countless Inomeni races across the galaxy, each race remained under the stewardship of its respective master or creator Typhonian. The Isariel, under the leadership of the Typhonian Lady Amaranth at the time, colonized the Tar Pendulum System in 110,000 TI. This occurred shortly after their outward expansion from their home world, Amarent, making the Tar Pendulum System the first to be claimed under the dominion of this emerging universal superpower.

The largest focus of then Faithful Isariel was placed on the world of Tarovania. However, once the Fragments of Remembrance and their immense wealth of power were discovered within the waters of the moon Illnium, the world immediately became one of the most predominate fixtures within their society. Though unlike most other fundamental facets of Isariel society, knowledge of Illnium itself remained a closely guarded secret, known only to a specially trained cabal of Isariel tasked with the extraction of Fragments for use, ensuring its true nature remained hidden from the broader populace, less its existence be discovered by any of the Isariel's potential enemies.

Throughout the high era of Dyad Rule, Illnium served as a sacred reservoir of pure magical essence and was the primary source for the Fragments utilized in the construction of Isariel artifacts, vessels, and constructs. Illnium’s oceans, considered sacrosanct by its custodians, were protected by cloaking fields and arcane seals, warding away detection by other Inomeni factions such as the Seraphnim. This secrecy would persist until the final centuries of the Dyad Rule, when the Seraphnim uncovered Illnium's existence. Despite attempts to seize it, the Isariel's arcane defenses held firm until the collapse of their civilization, preserving Illnium’s status even as their dominion waned.

In 100,000 TI, the Faithful Isariel were overthrown by the insurgent faction that would come to be known as Juno’s Ascendant of Those Ungrateful. The coup, led by defectors from within Lady Amaranth's inner cadre by the titular Juno, resulted in the complete dissolution of Her Ever-Faithful Isariel’s authority over the system, with the Ungrateful seizing direct control of both Tarovania and Illnium. Despite their ideological break from their progenitors, the Ungrateful Isariel preserved the exact methods of Fragment cultivation, utilization, and secrecy established under their former regime.

Post-Isariel Eras
Following a short-lived occupation under the Suit of Coequal Tarovania, Illnium was integrated into the dominion of the Etymology of All-Being in 60,000 TI. The Etymology, under Supreme Authority Phenomoth, initiated a series of aggressive metaphysical studies into the Fragments, culminating in 38,000 TI with the creation of the Vade, the last of the Inomeni, through artificial reactivation of Fragments submerged deep within Illnium’s watery depths. These experiments marked the final large-scale successful extraction of Fragments before the complete cessation of Magic across Ambrosia. With this: Illnium transitioned from a source of power to a symbolic relic of what Magic once was.

Despite this, Illnium remained an object of interest across the later eras of Ambrosian history. During the reign of the Sanlagosa Concordant, expeditions were launched to study the moon’s still-persistent anomalies. However, these were minimal and often marred by high cost due to the moon’s inhospitable pressures and unyielding environment. With the eventual collapse of the Concordant, authority over Illnium shifted to the Ophonoti’s Forever-Abound Technological Demarchy in 84 EE.

Under the governance of the Ophonoti and their membership within the Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems, Illnium is no longer seen as a potential site of magical resurgence, but rather as a scientific anomaly. The Ophonoti have officially declared Illnium a zone of prime technological and metaphysical study, yet all meaningful control is effectively delegated to the Typhonian Order. Floating research platforms and deep-ocean pressure bases have been deployed by the Order to monitor, catalog, and experiment with the remaining Fragments. While nearly all attempts to reactivate or utilize the Fragments have failed, sporadic pulses of Amaranth energy, occasionally witnessed by Remnant-aware Order members; hinting that perhaps a reemergence of their sacred power is imminent.

Overview

Illnium is an ocean moon and lesser member of the Tarovania / Illnium dual-planet system, within the Tar Pendulum System of the Realm of Resonance's Near East Systems. It is a world of many exclusive anomalous traits when compared to most other worlds across the Galaxy; standing as known Ambrosia's only world whose physical makeup is comprised solely of water (H2O), both liquid and gaseous, alongside being the only world in known space to be made from a singular Linneric element. Additionally; Illnium is the only world in known Ambrosia where the last remaining magical material can be found, contained within the crystalline Fragments of Remembrance; which itself served as a prominent fixture of nearly every facet of the former galactically dominating Inomeni power of the Isariel

Due to its specific spatial position, Illnium, alongside its sister world Tarovania, exists within the most potent and active Remnant stream of the former Fragments of Creation in which Ambrosian magic once manifested from. In respect to Illnium in specific, due to the unique environment, small sections of the moon's global ocean has preserved traces of the primordial magical energies that one streamed from the Amaranth Veil, interacting with its native waters, forming small crystalline cluster-like structures.

Despite never housing any native species or life, due to these aberrant traits, Illnium is a world that has been a fixture in many nations and species that have held control over it. Notably; the aforementioned Inomeni power of the Isariel held it in regards near to their native Amarent thanks to its sole unique material resource. Harnessing the respective Fragments which formed on the moon, the Isariel were able to amplify their immense magical potential intensity in levels much greater than they otherwise would be. As a result, it became one of their greatest defended worlds, remaining such after changing hands from the Lady Amaranth's Ever-Faithful Isariel to the succeeding power of Juno's Ascendant of Those Ungrateful.

Alongside being a world of preeminent in importance during the era of Dyad Rule, Illnium's native Fragments of Remembrance also served as the material in which the very last of the Inomeni of Ambrosia came to be; the Vade. In 38,000 TI (Time Immemorial), Phenomoth, the Typhonian Authority of the Etymology, would use it as a way to violate the universal entropy on new sources of magic coming into being, breathing life into the Remnant Fragments that contained the inherent and necessary forces of Creation. Despite this, the Vade never inhabited Illnium in large numbers, forgoing it in favor of their world of creation of Somina.

Illnium is currently governed by the Ophonoti's Forever-Abound Technological Demarchy, a member state of the Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems. The Demarchy assumed control over the moon, along with the rest of the Tar Pendulum System, following the collapse of its previous ruling authority, the Sanlagosa Concordant. While the moon anomalous traits have made it a great fixture in galactic study by the Ophonoti, as the world is quite harsh to most habitation, colonization of Illnium has largely been forgoed in favor towards other worlds within the system. Instead, the international Typhonian Order, whose function is to catalog and research artifacts and entities of primeval eras of Ambrosia, was given jurisdiction over most of the on-goings of the moon, operating under the guise of scientific study of the moon's esoteric form.

Properties

Geography

As an ocean world, Illnium's geography (or oceanography) consists of a sole global ocean of fresh water.

Climate

The climate of the world is largely calm, with placid waves slowly emerging across the surface waterline of its vast global sea, with the ocean's calmness continuing downward throughout the whole of its depth. Annually, gaseous water compresses into immense water clouds and will begin to rain for a prolonged period of two standard months, creating a near-global phenomenon of cascading rainfall. These rains, though lacking in typical mineral or nutrient content, produce awe-inspiring optical displays as sunlight refracts through the falling droplets, creating vast and luminous rainbows visible across the moon's horizon.

Beyond that, little is notable to Illnium's respective climate and temperature, as the world lacks diversity in its chemical makeup to generate interesting atmospheric or seasonal variations, resulting in a consistent and nearly unchanging environment dominated by mild temperatures and gentle weather patterns. Though as it is comprised of a singular element/chemical compound, while being relatively mild in climate, it is largely inhospitable to most forms of sapient life.

Fragments of Remembrance

- MAIN ARTICLE: "Fragments of Remembrance"

By far the single most notable property of Illnium, the Fragments of Remembrance stand alone in their like across the whole of modern Ambrosia. As the universe's sole remaining Source of active Remnant Fragments of Creation; Ambrosia's primordial force of what we would know to be "Magic." Culture

Population

Despite the world's prominence in two pivotal eras of galactic history, Illnium has never been host to a great population of sapients. Likely its greatest population was during the world's tenure under the reign of the Isariel nations, though even then it was only within the tens of thousands as the world's location was a highly guarded secret within their regime, less it be discovered by their rival Inomeni power of the Seraphnim, a venture which proved to be largely successful, though during the end of Dyad Rule Illnium's location would eventually be discovered by them. Despite the discovery of Illnium's location by the Seraphnim during the twilight of Dyad Rule, their attempts to exploit its resources or wrest control of the moon were met with fierce resistance, as the Isariel had fortified the world with defensive measures and arcane protections unmatched in their era.
