Xeo Raqovia is the name for the sacred Aberration held by the local Xherari governments under the Perdition division of the Theocracy of Silverstar. Its discovery, usage, and cultural prominence far predate the Theocracy, and as such there are a number of beliefs that have been retrofitted into Alecisism to prevent a genocidal total war over a single Aberration. Xherari technological development has been vastly accelerated due to the presence of Xeo Raqovia and its holders, and it continues to be at the forefront of exosuit technology.

The consciousness of Xeo Raqovia is indisputable, though it tends to be rather quiet and well-behaved within its chosen Avatar. The demands it has are to be made accessible and easily usable by its Avatar, and to be passed swiftly to the next following the death of its current. Following these, it also becomes erratic when guarded or kept in placid conditions against its own will, especially if its Avatar would rather be somewhere else.

Function

Xeo Raqovia is merged into a person, always Xherari as is the sacred custom, via them swallowing it whole. If the Aberration accepts a person as its vessel, it pierces through to their nervous system and embeds itself there irrevocably while repairing the trail of damage it causes. This binds it to a person until death.

When merged with Xeo Raqovia, its wielder has the ability to transmit their consciousness through any mechanical parts physically attached to them. At a base level, this means they can control any machine that is plugged into their body with little more than a thought. If the machine is capable of complex computation, if it has some semblance of similar structure to a brain, this can be further expanded to allow the user to fully transfer their mind over to the mechanical body.

Xeo Raqovia's technological connections stick in the mind of its user, allowing them to transfer data from the machine into their minds or recall its blueprints perfectly. As an Avatar of Xeo Raqovia ages and gains experience, they become naturally further inclined towards advanced engineering because of this. It all becomes instinctual to them, like flexing muscles to move one's hand into a certain shape. This visual innovation and imagination is unmatched in the research and development fields for technology.

Avatar of the Machine

Xeo Raqovia chooses who it merges with. Should an unchosen individual consume it, the Aberration will simply pass, or if it is particularly irritated it will cut its way out of the hubristic prospector. The one chosen by Xeo Raqovia is known as the Avatar of the Machine, named so because of their ability to be one with the mechanical Aberration and all technology thereafter. The divisional powers of Perdition grant extreme privilege to the Avatar of the Machine, and because of the inseparability of the Avatar from Xeo Raqovia, these are necessarily granted for life.

Normally, the abilities granted to the Avatar of the Machine can only be accessed by grievous injury, literally jamming robotic parts into flesh wounds to connect it to their nervous system. Xeo Raqovia, being intelligent and understanding the risks of this, has been cooperating since antiquity to develop procedures for altering its Avatar to suit its purposes. Traditionally, the Avatar of the Machine has mechanical ports installed in several locations across their limbs and body, which all technology meant to be used by them can plug into. These ports have the important nerve clusters woven into them to ensure a connection is made.

During a "full transfer" into a mechanical brain within an exosuit, the Avatar's body is physically practically dead, kept in a stasis state by Xeo Raqovia and prevented from decaying. The Avatar cannot move their flesh-body in this state, but this transferrence is usually only done within a full-body articulated and self-mobile exosuit or in times of critical condition. This mental integration with technology has lasting effects on the Avatar of the Machine, most obviously that their body does not age during this state, but also an ever-greater ability to formulate ideas of the world as data and blueprints.

Relevance

Xherari exosuit technology has been hastened by the presence and cultural sway of their Avatars of the Machine. Their reputation for extremely well-fitted, optimized, convenient and personally customizable exosuits is well-informed by the activities of each sequential Avatar of the Machine. As they spend time connected to and inhabiting their own personalized suits, they have come up with ways to improve every iteration. Even with other technology, well-read Avatars can create solutions quite handily by modifying existing technology they've gotten a read for by connection.

On Pherran, at least, and in most of the rest of Perdition, the Avatar of the Machine is heralded as something of a demigod. Xeo Raqovia itself is seen as sacred, a beacon of progress and innovation for all. And indeed, Xeo Raqovia's actions have given the Xherari much of their accelerated technological development. The Avatar of the Machine is granted special privileges and treatment under the local government, more so than even the highest of regional governers. They are still required to do a good deal of field work, given the suite of abilities they have to deal with environmental hazards.

Xeo Raqovia itself has expressed vast interest in the technologies of other civilizations, and though Azurullya's peoples have been united for millenia, it urges the Avatars to explore and feed it information about new developments across the tiny galaxy.

Treatment Under the Theocracy

Xeo Raqovia's existence itself is nothing special to the Theocracy of Silverstar. The beliefs surrounding it, however, directly clashed with the monotheistic (later monolatric) teachnings of Alecisism. The early days of the Theocracy's war against the Xherari civilizations were partly motivated by this, a holy war to see whose god would come out on top. Despite the technological prowess of their military, the opposition from the Esoteric Magi units of the Theocracy were too much.

Alecisism has since been modified to allow some veneration of the Avatar of the Machine, though with strict scrutiny so as to keep the image of the Avatar completely mortal, and the idea of Xeo Raqovia as a source of power rather than any sort of divine entity. Worshippers of Xeo Raqovia do exist, but they do so in secret to avoid the truly harsh punishments for blasphemy perpetuated by the Theocracy.

The Avatar of the Machine has taken on an official role as a civil servant, called in by regional and national operatives to analyze technological issues on a monthly basis. Gone are the days of the Pioneer-Avatars like Cuberr and Raeyo, and in the Theocracy there exists the bureaucratic Operative-Avatar, summoned like the highest IT specialist in all the land.
