Even basic nanotechnology can be massively helpful for many tasks.

;[[Artificial Intelligence (Silky Way)|Artificial Intelligence]]
:Broadly speaking, Artificial Intelligence refers to any form of sapient life (for a given value of life) which did not evolve naturally. The term is also often applied to nonsapient programs which can be found throughout civilized space, serving many functions from genetic algorithms, neural networks, pattern recognition algorithms, and natural language processing, to speech or comlink recognition. Debatably, the [[Edrons]] could be considered artificial intelligence, despite their origins as a biological species which enacted mass mind-uploading.

ISLANDED IN A STREAM OF STARS, ACROSS ETERNAL SEAS OF SPACE AND TIME
This content is a part of the Silky Way.

Community Page
This page is an open article designed for collaboration and expansion by anyone.

Core Concepts

The Cosmos
The universe of the Silky Way Scope, sometimes referred to poetically as the Long Song. All that exists is within it.
Seed Clusters
An astrophysical structure found across every galaxy. The vast majority of all life in the universe can be found within them. Examples include the Vernarca Nebula, Apple Nebula, and Pathos Cluster. See the Lexica for more.

Database Pages

Locations

Galaxies

The Silky Way
A beautiful, vibrant ring galaxy, this is the primary galaxy of the Scope, where the vast majority of its lore is set.
Asharbyel
A distant satellite of the Silky Way, Asharbyel is tied to the many tales of the galaxy through the Bakran Wormhole. Its sparse, resource-poor stars generate numerous conflicts throughout Asharbyel's history.
Filarsa
The largest satellite of the Silky Way, Filarsa is a beautiful lenticular galaxy visible in the skies of every world. The galaxy remains unknown as intergalactic travel is impractical at best for virtually everyone.

Filarsa is a decorative background galaxy, and not a setting of the Silky Way Scope.

Majestic
The innermost satellite of the Silky Way, being slowly torn to shreds by its parent's gravity. This galaxy is largely lifeless and home to the Vondunke.

With the exception of the origins of the Celeor State which now lives in the Hinthorn Sector, this galaxy is largely a background galaxy like Filarsa.

Galactic Regions

Ervo Sector
The sector which the Vernarcan Federation and its neighbors call home, and the location of the Vernarca Nebula. The War of the Broken Bow took place both here and within the Hinthorn Sector, culminating in the destruction of the Void. It is connected to the far distant Hinthorn Sector via the Szalana Wormhole, an extremely rare natural wormhole within the Silky Way.

The Ervo Sector is the most detailed current setting within the Silky Way's lore, and (due to who's writing the most) is functionally the "main character".

If you wish to write something big within the Vernarca Nebula, constant communication is needed if your addition greatly affects elements of lore surrounding it.

Minor additions like a new planet in the Vernarcan Federation or something of that scale generally require much less, particularly if its Minmus' lore, who will just edit whatever wording needs to be edited in most cases. In addition, a second seed cluster within the Ervo Sector is of course entirely allowed.

Hinthorn Sector
This sector is the first other sector reached by the inhabitants of the Vernarca Nebula, and is home to the enormous Apple Nebula. The nebula is among the most populous and diverse regions of the cosmos, as well as the nations of the Alliance of Five within. Uniquely, the Hinthorn Sector is directly connected to the Ervo Sector 90,000 light-years away via the stable natural phenomenon of the Szalana Wormhole.

The Hinthorn Sector is a very new setting within the lore, and writing within the Apple Nebula will make your contributions very influential. Communication is necessary as with every collaboration, but this would be a great place for it.

As usual, there is nothing stopping you from writing another seed cluster within the Sector, although collaboration is always recommended.

Astros Sector
This sector was first explored by the peoples of the Vernarca Nebula during the accidental transgalactic voyage of the FSS Kareland. Deposited in the sector near the planet Amana by misused alien technology, the ship began a twenty-eight year journey home, visiting the Karvel Cluster, Lowiras Cluster, and Callurim Cluster within this sector on the way before entering the supremely desolate space controlled by the Void.
Venette Sector
Reached four years into the Kareland's voyage, the Venette Sector is more than 75,000 light-years away from the Vernarca Nebula. While partly subsumed within Void space, this sector is home to the Spider Nebula, the largest nebula known to the civilizations of the Silky Way. The Spider Nebula is filled with a number of powerful civilizations, in a state of constant war for at least the past 40,000 years.
Regorum Sector
This sector contains a number of seed clusters and spans the inner and outer edges of the galactic ring. Notable locations in the sector known to the Vernarcan Federation include the Ayma Cluster, the Pathos Cluster, and the first discovery of a functioning Flashpoint beacon.
Brenari Sector
This sector, starting at over 20,000 light-years from Teralla, was staggeringly diverse prior to the coming of the Void. However, much of the Brenari Sector has been subsumed within Void space, destroying countless civilizations including those of the Hesteral Cluster. Also found here is the Mbombo Hyperobject, the largest single artificial structure ever discovered.
Lazon Sector
Home to a great many unique cultures, including the first direct evidence of civilization beyond the immediate vicinity of the Silky Way in the form of the settlers of the Tuath Nebula, this sector was the last stop of the Kareland on its voyage home. Other places to visit include the silent graveyard of the Vilari Cluster, the unique civilization-spanning hivemind found in the Swallow Nebula, and the mysterious structure of the Astronomicon.
Galactic Core
The Galactic Core has stood silent and empty for almost a billion years since the catastrophic fall of the Qomarat Empire. It is centered upon the supermassive black hole of Demos, first surveyed by the FSS Kareland in 139 after the discovery of the Flashpoint Network, and is by far the densest region of the galaxy. Future expeditions are highly desired by the nations of the Grand Alliance, but they await the discovery of a functioning Flashpoint beacon.
Galactic Halo
A region of the Silky Way beyond the visible bounds of the galaxy. This region is extremely sparsely populated with stars, and has never been surveyed by any known civilization.
Hiram Sector
The location of the Colony, the nerve center of the Void's computerized mind, before its destruction in the Battle of the Colony in 150 AC. This region has been entirely subsumed by Void space, and with its fall may return to something approximating normal over the next thousands of years.
Corill Sector
A Galactic Sector which has been mostly subsumed within Void space. It is the position of the once-conjectured wormhole connecting the primary expanse of void space with the region which destroyed the Hesteral Cluster, but no contacted civilization has gone anywhere near it.
Lucy Sector
Bordering the Hinthorn Sector, this sector has been completely subsumed within Void space. The only visit conducted by the civilizations of the Grand Alliance when the rogue fleet following the FSS Kareland went searching for the Colony. Its not there.
Kishase Sector
This sector has also been completely subsumed within Void space.
Ilos Sector
An uncharted sector.
Tarn Sector
An uncharted sector.
Rein Sector
An uncharted sector. It contains the largest known star, Ansuz 7-18, and was completely jumped over by the voyage of the Kareland.
Desic Sector
This sector has been completely subsumed within Void Space, and is connected to the main territory of the Void through a wormhole to the Corill Sector.
Istraki Sector
An uncharted sector.
Kardesh Sector
An uncharted sector, bordering the Ervo Sector.
Vidaea Sector
An uncharted sector, bordering the Ervo Sector towards the rim.
Gammu Sector
An uncharted sector, bordering the Ervo Sector.

Seed Clusters

Ervo Sector

Vernarca Nebula
A large nebula in the Ervo Sector, where the Vernarcan Federation, Falacian Dominion, Tyran Free State and friends, Talarian Union, Thelsan Assembly, and many other smaller nations reside.

Hinthorn Sector

Apple Nebula
The second largest nebula in the Silky Way, the Apple Nebula is a spherical structure almost 1000 light-years across centered upon one of the largest stars in the galaxy. It is connected to the Vernarca Nebula through the mysterious Szalana Wormhole, and was the site of much of the War of the Broken Bow.

Astros Sector

Karvel Cluster
A medium-sized cluster near the edge of the galaxy, populated by a variety of civilizations living the ruins of Karvelia, the powerful ancient civilization which gave the cluster its modern name. Much of its space is controlled by a massive number of feuding clans.
Lowiras Cluster
A large seed cluster, with a massive density of interstellar dust making large parts of it difficult to navigate. The rare clear regions are predominantly controlled by the autocratic state of Celeas, a rare example of a large fraction of a seed cluster under the control of a single civilization.
Callurim Cluster
A miniscule seed cluster less than ten light-years across, it barely qualifies as such with only two native sapient species. The nations of the Callora species live in a cycle of history, of civilizational decadence, rebellion, collapse, rebirth, and a return to decadence going as far back as records go.

Venette Sector

Spider Nebula
The largest known seed cluster, the Spider Nebula is in fact an amalgamation of smaller seed clusters bound together by gravity and proximity. Much of it is completely uninhabitable due to the prevalence of supermassive stars and the radiation that entails, and what remains has been fiercely fought over by the nations there as far back as memory goes.

Regorum Sector

Ayma Cluster
The Ayma Cluster is a fairly average sized Seed Cluster, around 20-30 light-years in diameter. Ruled since time immemorial by the deeply reclusive and conservative Hosk Assembly, the Ayma Cluster's other races are subtly influenced by their invisible social engineering to avoid turning their eyes (and weapons) to the powers that keep them down.
Pathos Cluster
A large open cluster with a variety of massive stars, this cluster is ruled by a number of miniscule civilizations, which have not been overtaken by its three largest rulers due to their unique kingmaker scenario that they remain locked in. The neighboring Lypan Technocracy observes a strict non-interference directive, preventing them from subsuming nearby smaller civilizations as would be expected.

Brenari Sector

Hesteral Cluster
Once a thriving hub of civilization, the Hesteral Cluster was destroyed by the advancing Void around twenty-five years before the present day. The last survivors fled in the Hesteral Exodus Fleet, later meeting up with the FSS Kareland, joining it on its voyage, and settling in the Vernarca Nebula.

Aurae Cluster
The Aurae Cluster is a small seed cluster near the bleeding edge of the galactic ring on the doorstep of intergalactic space. It is small, and dominated by the Anoban Nest, ruling over their lonely domain with an iron fist.

Technologies

General Tech

Nanotechnology
A classification of extremely small, usually microscopic technology. This technology may be biological or mechanical in nature, but in practice the line tends to blur at this scale. Nanotech is used for anything requiring the manipulation of individual atoms, and thus in theory construct anything that can physically exist with the correct instructions and materials. Even basic nanotechnology can be massively helpful for many tasks.
Computronium
A catchall term for a wide range of materials designed for massive computation. Computroniums are composed of densely packed computational elements, appearing like a continuous solid or gel at macroscopic scales. Due to its density, it is extremely fast and efficient, and only a small amount is required for most tasks. Like all computer equipment, implementation, design, and capability of computroniums are highly variable.
Antimatter
Matter composed of the counterparts of ordinary matter. Antiparticles have the same mass as their counterpart, but the opposite electromagnetic charge, and will annihilate on contact with their counterpart, making it an effective if dangerous power source. Antimatter is often used both for propulsive power in torch drives and in advanced weaponry. Some forms of radioactive decay produce minuscule quantities of it, but large farm megastructures are required to effectively produce enough to be useful.
Artificial Intelligence
Broadly speaking, Artificial Intelligence refers to any form of sapient life (for a given value of life) which did not evolve naturally. The term is also often applied to nonsapient programs which can be found throughout civilized space, serving many functions from genetic algorithms, neural networks, pattern recognition algorithms, and natural language processing, to speech or comlink recognition. Debatably, the Edrons could be considered artificial intelligence, despite their origins as a biological species which enacted mass mind-uploading.

Space Travel

Warp Drive
A ubiquitous form of superluminal drive, functioning by warping space around a vessel via carefully engineered and calculated manipulation of negative-value energy forms and causing said space to move rapidly forward. Maximum speeds vary by the technological level of the civilization, but the top speed of a warp drive encountered measures up to 2,500 c on the specially designed ships of the Hosk Assembly.
Hesteral Jump Drive
A comparatively rarer but debatably more powerful form of superluminal drive originating in a precursor civilization in the Hesteral Cluster and adopted by most other groups arising between then and the cluster's destruction at the hands of the Void. Working by linking two parts of space and twisting and tearing space-time to instantaneously switch their positons, its design quickly proliferated through the Vernarca and Apple Nebulae after the return of the FSS Kareland.
Warp Lane
Rather than its own unique form of travel, a warp lane constitutes a narrow region of space cleared of dust and gas by repeated travel through it via warp drive or some other similar/derivative technology. This absence of obstacles allow warp drives to more efficiently travel along these routes, and some of the cheapest models are only fit to do so, lacking facilities to shield from radiation or bleed off heat and static charge created by dust impacts on the warp bubble.
Void Underspace
A "basement universe", commonly used by Void starships to travel quickly through territory it claims. Underspace generally expands just behind the extent of Void space, being established once a region is under the control of the Void and unlikely to change.
Flashpoint Network
A collection of disused infrastructure built by the Qomarat Empire beginning just over a billion years ago. Each Flashpoint beacon in the galactic ring is paired with a partner orbiting in the vicinity of Demos, allowing quick travel throughout the Empire prior to its fall. Nowadays, the vast majority of flashpoint beacons are nonfunctional or destroyed.

Megastructures

The Colony
The site of the Void's mainframe and all the associated infrastructure, located in interstellar space deep within the Hiram Sector. The Colony was destroyed on 13.10, 150 AC with the sacrifice of Admiral Su'uni Ash Nikal, ending the War of the Broken Bow.
